Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
I found out some problems . don't know if you discuss it before or not .
1- I tried to use my E-mail admin@armaemo.org with the MfE , it works and receive messages but it doesn't send any thing and when I try it tells me this http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2793/...98724b9a_o.png 2- It doesn't support Arabic some time , so some messages comes with question marks instead of Arabic characters . http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4047/...024c3b41_o.png 3- I have another E-mail on hotmail that I filtered the messages on it so for example Google messages goes to Google folder , Nokia messages goes to Nokia folder automatically . the problem is when I try to get those messages on my N900 the MfE couldn't get any messages except those in the inbox . nothing from Nokia folder or Google folder ..etc |

3 seems to be a known issue with Hotmail not letting users access folders over POP3. Try it in another mail client to try make sure that's the issue, then contact Microsoft with your complaint. IMAP would of course be preferable. |
Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
Hi everybody.
Just installed my N900 as exchange 2007 (soon 2010) client. Wanted to say everything works great, including folders. I have even some more options than my previous WiMo device :-) I hope this gives some hope to those having problems ... |
Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
I did buy the N900 because ti runs Linux and I hoped to remain free from Microsoft applications. More in particular I hope that somebody will develop apps to sync with Kontakt and/or Evolution.
In the maintime, I can sync with Google Calendar, but not with contacts. Bummer! Paai |

Thank you again to you...the warm words are well deserved. I understand your position about not telling anything about the time and features included in next releases. I hope we'll see them very early, at least some of them, since I saw the PR 1.1 is out for testing (I would be glad to test it but I understand I'm a new entry of the Maemo community and that there are many other people more deserving than me). I just ask you to push the marketing people to let you developers exploit the full potential of Maemo and Linux without limiting it because of possible conflict with other Symbian phone (example N97 and N97 mini). We need to have a very good implementation of MfE for business reason, otherwise I and many other users have to switch to other devices and return to windows mobile (Bleah ) or Iphone or... I'm waiting to test N900 as primary phone because of Mfe problems with Exchange 2003...so I'm very anxious. Speaking of Modest, I hope the features of the client will be improved because I think it lacks some important function, like the search, better compatibility with outlook etc... I search on internet about Modest webpage (http://modest.garage.maemo.org/ ) but it tells almost anything about future plans, and also FAQ or other things.... do you know if it is possible to use more complete email client of maemo, mantaining the compatibility with the message database of the stadard modest ? Thank you again for the reply, Merry S. Stefano Cesare |
Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE) and Calendar
HI Vitaly and all the current user of Mfe Calendar sync.
Since I'm at home this night...I have some time to ask ;-) I didn't have the opportunity to try MfE (for the 2003 bug) but I would like to know if there are problems with the MfE sync with Exchange servers when all the standard function are not fully used. I mean, If I understand in Calendar application for example is not supported : -Category -Colour synchronisation - Multiple calendars sync with exchange Will I loose those infos in the Exchange and outlook side, if I sync calendar witn N900 OTA ? I saw on the Nokia web page: http://maemo.nokia.com/features/calendar/ that there are multiple calendars supported by N900 Calendar apps, but if I understand, these can be synced only with PC Suite, right ? And the different colors are assigned only to the different calendars, not to the different type of event I put in the calendar (for example in outlook I have the personal appointments, the business appointment, "need to partecipate" etc..) So what do you suggest to do, If I'm using a single calendar in the enviroment Exchange 2003 SP2 and Outlook 2003 SP3 to have different colors for the different type of appointments ? Can different calendars in N900 be mapped to one single Exchange calendar preserving the different color codes ? I hope I explainded well in my poor English... Thanks for the reply and suggestion, Merry Xmas again, Cesare |
Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
We had a few users all report seeing this error message when configuring to sync with our service (www.nuevasync.com):
Error. Either Exchange server requires secure connection or account is disabled. I did some searching in Bugzilla and so far can't find an existing bug, so I filed a bug with details and diagnosis: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7357 The executive summary is for for unknown reasons, a few devices (around 2% in our sample), end up with a broken MfE cert store that is missing some CA cert symlinks. |

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
How can one debug MfE syncing problems? I've MfFe set to sync with Google Calendar and Google Contacts (but not Gmail). After the first full sync, I get "sync failed" errors (which, as Vitaly explains, may or may not happen, due to how Google implements the MfE protocol).
If I sync only Calendar, the sync succeeds; if I sync only Contacts (or Contacts and Calendar), sync fails. My hope is that I can narrow down the Contacts sync problem to specific elements in my address book, and then I'll edit those entries. Is there any way to get MfE to log sync errors somewhere? I've already installed syslogkd, but I can't find MfE logs either under /var/log or under /home/user . |

I solved the situation, so the wizard finishes ok, only after deleting all items in my N900 calendar... and the first sync was OK Happy? NO! Because any other "sync" I've tried after did not succeed anyway (may be only one, but I tried many tens times!). So I'm going to cancel my MfE syncro definition, waiting for sw update from Nokia... :-( Anyway I've seen in this forum (and others) that someone has been so lucky to succeed in syncronize Google Calendar, and to keep syncronizations active. I have found my sync works in terms of pulling from online and a bit to go back up for the calendar, but the contact changes I make only seem to come off the server. It is not a big deal to me now though, I can deal with editing them in TB/Gmail for a little while. |
Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
Been looking into this issue and reading the entire thread piece by piece for a few days, so now I have caught up I have a few things to say.
1. Thank you vitaly, It is great you are spending time working with us and asking what we want from this service. I really hope more maemo devs do the same, and if they do, I will be sticking with maemo for a long time (this is why I love running linux in general). 2. I really hope you guys get Google sync working at some point. I voted in the link you posted, and I really hope it happens. I have access to an exchange server that I could use, but gmail is too convenient (Things may be different if I had 3g and was always on). 3. I really hope there is a way you can get the managers to release some of the source for MfE, even if it is not the whole thing. I wont be able to do anything with it as I cant code to save my life, but I can run tests and post logs as requested (and will do so if MfE gets open sourced and people need it). |
Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
I've been using Mfe and GMail, and for the most part they work well (I've had to give up trying to set up Yahoo mail). Anyhow, I may be doing something wrong or not finding the right settings, but
- is there any way in which I can tell how many unread messages in each mailbox on the main screen (without having to go down into the mailboxes which take 30 secs to load)? - when a preview notification shows up, I click on it and it takes me to the message. Super. But then I can't delete the message! The garbage box is greyed out. I have to go into the mailbox to delete the message. Is there any way to delete from the preview? |

Vitaly,
I just want to thank you for participating and listening. THIS is what Nokia could do more of - to make maemo take giant leaps ahead of its competition. Listen to complaints, use the customer's voice as a tool inside the organization to inform the right decisions, and then address the issues in order of priority. One of the best threads I've seen so far on maemo.org. Thank you once again. |

I understand that Tasks are synced as well. That is great. If I've got Tasks Categorized, will those Categories be synced as well?
Thank you! |

Could anyone please take a look at the attached syslog and see if they can decipher what's going on, it seems to get to the stage of building a folder structure and then falls over in a heap...

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls
I have a new n900 but can't connect to my Exchange 2007 server. Please can you help me find why its not working.
I have checked the credentials I'm using are correct. Also they work on MfE for Nokia on my E71. I pointed the N900's browser at the mail server address (FQDN mailhost2.sire.co.uk) and accepted the certificate. The certificate is self signed by our mailhost. Also I have been to the website with my home PC and saved the certificate, as a PCKS#7 file named mailhost.p7b, then transferred it to the N900. Clicked on it in the Filemanager and tried to open it with various things including the Certificate Manager. However, I don't see the Exchange server as an authority in the Certificates Manager. I also checked that I have 236 items in /home/user/.activesync/certs/ as well as 236 in /etc/certs/common-ca/. As the certificate is self signed I created a symbolic link from /home/user/.maemosec-certs/ssl-ca to /etc/certs/common-ca/ see https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6467#c17:- The steps I took, are they right? rmdir /home/user/.maemosec-certs/ssl-ca ln -s /etc/certs/common-ca /home/user/.maemosec-certs/ssl-ca Once I have entered all the credentials and ticked the Secure connection box, I get the message "Error. Either exchange server requires secure connection or account is disabled" almost instantly. Every time. I've also tried turning it off and on again a few times :) What have I missed? Thanks in advance. |

Can anyone help?
I did the work around as mentioned. But.... The ln statement gave me two time permision denied. Do i need to do this as root? Please help i need my exchange 2007 sp1 server! ps for nokia: This is the second time that i bought a nokia product for connection with exchange that dit not work right out of the box. Last time it was a 5800 with mfe for fun and test. Is nokia confusing ginypigs with customers? This will probably the last nokia product i am going to buy. And i am not giving my recommendation to our company.(where i am the corporate mail client ginypig) 1. Just get your root certificate installed on the device so that it is seen in the certificate store (server sertificate!), lot of instructions to do that on this forum.. 2. Go to xterm: cd /home/user/.maemosec-certs/ssl-ca/ 3. see the directory contents: ls -lh ; there should be a long file (something like x89x8x7087873234324.pem and then a short symlink to it 89737443.pem ) 4. then just make the symlink: cd /home/user/.activesync/certs/ ln -s /home/user/.maemosec-certs/ssl-ca/* . |

I still can't get MfE to work, but I'm now fairly sure its all down to the certificate handling. So I'll update below and look for a N900 certificates management thread. Please note the above, I have the symbolic links wrong, the correct steps are (thanks Wimmert); 1. However, the self-signed certificate I need won't install. I have saved the site certificates via my PC's firefox, transferred them, but no matter what I try they won't install. File manager just shows me that it is a certificate, displays the details, and doesn't ask me to install it. I tried it with another certificate and it worked fine... |
