I am unable to update any apps because the catalog update fails. I ran apt-get update as root, but problem persists. Here is my log:

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

For background, I'm trying to update CSSU without using PC Suite since I'm lacking a USB port. I realized it ws the Jebba repo giving me catalog update issues, but deactivating it didn't allow updating the CSSU as the default Application Manager, as if either it didn't see the update or it was in that Jebba repo. Any help, guys?

handaxe 2011-06-26 22:31

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

@christexaport: I scanned your repos but did not see the cssu repo. do you have it? may be off track here.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

I first did an apt-get -f install, then deleted and manually readded all my repos from HAM, and yet Jebba repo still acts balky. I deactivated Jebba, and now both HAM AND FAPMAN won't show the update. Here's my new log:
EDIT
nix that. Log is empty. *confused*

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

@christexaport: none of those errors are significant in relation to your issue. I would troubleshoot this with HAM alone and with all extraneous repos disabled.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

is there a way to get the log after closing FAM? I let 3 apps update themselves and after closing FAM, I see that they ate about 25MB of rootfs, so I wanted to know which apps updated and what they did :/

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

I can't (un)install anything...some "dependencies not matched"...I have no idea why, the normal App Manager works, but it is horribly slow.

The only way I get persistent logging is to edit /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg and enable logging by specifying "log /var/log/dpkg.log". that gives you something as apt-get and gui based managers use dpkg.

check that exactly the same repos (catalogues) are used by reimporting the HAM ones.

On my OC'd N900 this runs slower than the default package manager, is anyone experiencing this also?

As far as I know fapman doesn't delete logfile after closing but overwrites it when started. Therefore you should be able to open the logfile with any editor / viewer as long as you didn't start it again.
Path should be /root/.fapman/lastlog.txt
If you can't open file as user try it as root.

which is where I failed... I opened FAM again to use its logfile viewer - only to see it was empty.

It really should only clear that when it starts a new request :(

Whatever was updated not only ate rootfs, it is also killing my battery :/

if you just want to see which packages were lately installed / upgraded try following: go to "uninstall" selection and make sure the packages are ordered by date. you'll see latest additions on top. ;)

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

So I'm having an issue from the packaging-app-in-repository side of things that has to do with FApMan, that I'm hoping someone can clue me in on.

I could've sworn I've ran into it on this forum before, but I've ran searches on this thread, on the forum, and on Google in general and I still haven't found anything that would give me an answer.

I've packaged a program (alpine) recently, and put it in the extras-devel repository. The icon shows up if you look at the program in Hildon Application Manager - it does not show up if you look at the program in Faster Application Manager.

I'm NOT talking about the icon not being visible/blue-square after you've installed the program. That's fixable by restarting hildon-desktop. I mean INSIDE the app managers' app lists, the icon shows up with the program name inside HAM, but is replaced by the default blue square inside FAM.

Any other developers or people who have read on the subject who can point me to a hint as to why this happens and how to make an application icon show up in both app managers consistently? (I suspect it has something to do with the exact options which which I saved the .png file before uuencode-ing it?)

Try disabling the extras-testing repository, updating the repositories, then re-enabling it & updating again.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

I have Ovi enabled in Fapman and I have MAG's "fixed" apt installed. I can install Ovi apps from cli with apt-get. Fapman used to show me available updates on Ovi and let me install them.
Now since last reflash Fapman is not showing me the available updates in Ovi anymore (yes, I tried setting categories to ALL/Advanced). I am pretty sure everything is set up as before the reflash. There are no errors, it just doesn't show them. Please tell me what could be wrong.
Without fapman showing Ovi updates I would need to reenable that horrible automated update check which usually pops in action when I am on 0.25€/MB GSM 2G line....Thanks.

For some reason it now works again without any change. Odd.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

This has been requested 2 years ago but I'll bring it up again ...
Would it be possible to include purge instead of just de-install? Some apps leave a mess behind them with normal de-install.
And is it possible to see apps that have been installed but later de-installed? I'd like to clean up a little but I don't remember which apps I installed some time ago ...

Edit: OK, just found a nice one-liner for dpkg on "Free Up Rootfs Space" in "Community". Would be nice to have that in FAM but I'm happy with X-Term already. This community is awesome! :D

Is there a way to tell fapman where to cache lists? It is using 45 MB in opt on my phone!

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

And you would prefer it to store in rootfs? ;)

BTW, there is option to clear cache after every operation. Just check fapman settings.

Unfortunately, I have not found a dpkg.log file on my n900 (why is that anyway?), otherwise

Code:

grep install /var/log/dpkg.log
would have given you some info that looks allright for the human eye.

Instead, try

Code:

ls /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.list -lh
*

This will give you some info on when a package was last modified but as dpkg does not store the date of installation (afaik) this is the closest thing I found. Of course this works only so far, as autoremove leaves .list files behind where purge does no such thing.

* write the output to a text file for your convenience.

Not rootfs but MyDocs or an SD card. I have checked the option to clear the cach, but /opt/fapman-cache is still stuffed with huge files ...

On another note, can the low-space warning be disabled? It's a good thing to get this warning when fapman is started, but getting a pop-up after some actions (updating catalogs, ...) is very annoying ...

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

A change of topic...

Previously people mentioned FAPMAN crashes when connecting to network using libicd-network-null (N900 USB Networking).
I saw the Qt bug page didn't have any progress. Now can't the developer of this add-in do something to escape from this bug?

Actually most Qt applications that use network run correctly on Maemo5 (Try Qt's browser demo for example).
Maybe buggy network functions that cause this crash can be avoided in FAPMAN so that people with wired USB connection can use it? It would be such a useful feature.

I added extra-devel, it said The package management system is locked by another process or...
However, I use the App Manager, it can load the extra-devel.

Are you using multiple management at the same time? (HAM, FAM or apt-get)
Is HAM or apt-worker running in background? (check with top)

There have been a few people with package manager related issues lately.
For anybody still using this please see link.
