I've got some exams coming and other not quite pleasant stuff to deal with, that's why I am so absent lately... and I'm a bit overwhelmed, but I'm not leaving that easily. ;)

There was a silent update on Friday (only translations) and I've got another one today:
  • Fixed continuous 100% CPU usage when creating a thumbnail in certain cases.
  • Don't clear the list of videos when refreshing it.
  • Support for opening HTTP video streams.
  • More meaningful window titles for the UPnP browser.
I forgot to include microjo's updated Chinese translation in 20111120-1, but it's already on its way to the repository (20111120-2).

Hopefully all reports for the 100% CPU bug had the same cause. Please report here if the problem persists after the update.

It should be possible to open online videos from other applications, but I tested it only with cuteTube, so that's another thing needing confirmation.

Hi, I'm back with some corrections for italian translation. This time I created and tested a .qm file (included in the attachment).

Maybe it's already been asked, but may I suggest an option in settings that makes OMP the default player?
Is it too early for the current stage of development?
I know about the tweak described in the wiki (edit "/usr/share/dbus-1/services/com.nokia.mediaplayer.service"), but wouldn't it be more straightforward to add a simple checkbox?

Problem: When your watching a movie or clip and you tap to pause it the background around the pause, previous and next buttons changes quickly - bit irritating
Whilst on stock media player, it doesn't the buttons simply appear

Can't confirm, it doesn't happen for me. In my device, hitting pause during video playback doesn't result in such strange things.

The installscript always downloads the version from april the 13th. Could someone eventually fix this? ;) Thx

I know it's just eye-candy - but are there any plans to introduce an album art view option such as the one in Flowplayer ? http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=75130

The current cover "flat list" view in OMP does work faster than the stock media player but just lacks a bit of flair :) (album art screen, not the OMP itself)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I think such additions should be left alone, until we get version that 100% reproduces functionality of stock media player + fixes all it's bugs. Such version could be included into CSSU.

Then, someone (even gdizzz himself, if he is still going to be interested) may prepare OMP-power ( ;) ) with whatever functionalities, that aren't obligatory for everyone to have (like with possible CSSU version).

Hi
Please make the playback stop if there's a call: now it runs in the background, you don't hear it but it does run. You cannot continue from the point you started before the call in any other way than rewinding

Although it could be convenient, It's just a media player, so editing system files doesn't quite fit into the application.

Announcement:
OMP is now present on Transifex: http://www.transifex.net/projects/p/...t-mediaplayer/. If you're one of the translators, consider using that to update your translation (it's got nice progress bars and maybe other features ;) and I can download all translations with one command  ). Even if you decide to keep posting updates in this thread, it still might be useful to track the progress.

If you're interested, send me a PM with your Transifex username -- I'll create a language team and add you. To make a new translation, simply use the "Request a new team" button.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

There is a bug with latest version:
1. play video
2. touch screen, GUI appears
3. pause video, using center button
4. unpause video, using the same button
5. when playback starts again, whole GUI stays on screen but it should behave like in stock Media Player - should disappear.

There are some problem with thumbnails - sometimes, after video playback they aren`t generated/refreshed for that file, showing black square instead of the last played frame. I had to use stock Media Player to play file and generate thumbnail so it showed again in OMP.

Man, this is much far-stretched ;) It's really not a issue to touch screen again (outside buttons) and make buttons disappear...

To be honest, stock behavior here was very irritating, so it's not a bug, it's a feature ;)

It worked like that (disappearing GUI like in stock player) before and it was better imo. But sure, no biggie.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Solution - make it configurable ;)

Anyway, I still think it's somewhat low priority.

When you open a song from FileBox or another filebrowser, the whole folder will be added to the "now playing" playlist not just the one you selected. This way you can create playlists from folders.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

on Lyrics Page, UI should minimize and push thumbnail to a side so lyrics are covering 90% of the page in portrait mode

swipe from right to left OR left to right toggles to next page. Now was this actually added and if it was, shouldn't left to right actually take it back to the previous toggle.

Main Play Song Windows -> Playlist/Album list of songs -> Lyrics (if enabled).

Entertainment view is quite awesome. Lyrics are not enabled on that view though, only works in landscape for now.

Videos should automatically go to landscape. Its a shame to pick n900 and rotate it for now.

Great work overall

Interaction (resuming) with gpodder works now. I found 2 issues:

In some cases, for example opening a podcast from gpodder while
omp plays other content, the task view shows omp twice.

Jumping within podcasts is not possible, even when the episode was
downloaded to the device. The displayed length is always -00:01.

BTW: AVRCP works fine!

Isn't that caused by Hildon's forced rotation? I don't know if I can do anything about that in such case.

Hey, is it possible to choose the audio stream for a video file that has more than one audio track?

In default player, most of the times it simply changes when reopening a file, though it won't work always.

I really like what you've done so far with open media player
But I have two issues.
1st - When are you going to fix the next or previous buttons? I would have thought that would be top priority
2nd - I love streaming movies using the stock media player rather than actually downloading them first. This doesn't work with Open Media Player :(

CPU gone wild (100%) twice since last update :( . Sorry that I didn't have a chance to attach gdb, will try next time. BTW is there a debug package for OMP?

It's in today's update.

Try X-CSSU-Force-Landscape=true in the .desktop file.

FYI not sure if this blocks built in rotation.

I don't see where this strings are used in Open Media Player :

one: %n song
other: %n songs

one: %n album
other: %n albums

(I need to know for the french translation)

It's in today's update.

It can't be forced rotation otherwise OMP would've always been in landscape mode though latest OMP update fixes it. Now when you click on video in portrait mode, it switches to landscape

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

It currently does not accept command line - i cannot open files with it using filebox for example - it just launches the player but the selected file is not played.

a very important feature i think...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

The space bar does not pause songs unless on music player part.

On stock player, even if your navigating through tracks or videos the "space bar" will pause currently playing track.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Is there any command line option to launch the OMP directly into car view mode? It would very useful.
Thank you for the great work you've done so far.

Gidzzz thanks mate for all your hard work witht the great app as omp but i have slight problem with the latest update now everytime omp is opened it goes to first song in playlist unlike upto last version it would start from last stopped song which was really useful! Everytime now i open omp it goes to the top and i keep hearing same songs having over 3000 songs doesnt help scrolling down each time so could you please revert that in the next update please thanks in advance!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

The process is working openmediaplayer even after stop playing and exit the program. In my case consumes 60% of the CPU.

Other problems:
-the list of songs on the player will not display them all, even if you change song often shows marked me even when the same song playing.

Suggested improvements:
-to create a play list that allows to mix songs and videos.
-equalizer and remember the setting you put for each song.
-to select multiple songs / videos at once and send them to play. No one at a time.

Thanks for such good and hard work.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Where are the lyrics gotten from?
Some of them ain't correct, some don't exist on the server...

And I'd suggest making it sort multi cd albums correctly

Same here after exit (in hildon) it was still running in background, couldn't open "default" mediaplayer because of OMP was still running.
