Any signs or rumours of 0.4.0 release date yet? Spring, summer, autumn? Would be really nice to hear some progress update from elemental himself :)

Me too haha. @Elemental. Would sending more money your way help progress at all? :) Hope all is well.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

I have bad news for all of you, sorry.
I decided to not release 0.4.0 version, because of the following reasons:
- I started completely new, fresh project of EmuMaster
- some work is still needed for 0.4.0 to be complete (perfect)
- people would start sending bugs, thus stopping me with new development
- I would be forced to develop two branches of project and I have not enough time for this

Why I decided to start completely new EmuMaster ?
I had some stunning ideas for long time in my head.
It's hard to implement most of them in the current architecture.
This ideas really makes huge difference.
I don't want to reveal the features I want to implement.
The only thing that I can say now:
- it uses Qt5
- it will be cross platform Linux, Meego, Windows, Android(hopefully with Qt5.1), and others
- of course saved data will be interchangeable between platforms
- much better compatibility
- much, much faster
- it addresses most of the issues of old project: e.g. no more save-state incompatibilities - it will be automatically tested
- many, many, many new features
- I keep a list of your requests and ideas for new version of EmuMaster and I covered most of them in new version, do not hesitate to tell me what you want more (but please do not send me requests for emulation of new consoles, I have plenty of them already)

I am very excited about current image of whole new project, but I don't expect to release it before this summer :(
But I am very commited to this project, as it is my best project ever and I will never give up on it. NEVER.

I'm sad and excited, any chance to see some screen shots of the new emumaster?

also are you adding new game systems to this?

Yes and yes, but in the right time.
The UI is also completely and do not base on existent components (in previous version I used qt-components heavily).
It's more designed like game menus... aah ... I would say more here, so you would be more excited, but I don't want reveal it yet.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

well I would be extremely excited if something like Dreamcast, saturn turbographix 16 or especially n94 were added. Just saying

I'm really looking forward to what you bring us either way and will remain patient

Well, that's a bummer for 0.4.0
But great that you're going for a totally new emumaster

Hope to see this project will be reality asap! :)

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Thanks for the update Elemental. Nice to hear that you are still working very hard on emumaster. However, I'd like to make a suggestion :

0.4 beta version was already a nice improvement over 0.3. Of course, a lot of work was still needed to have a polished version, but emulation for snes and psx were greatly improved. The only drawback are the big red "BETA" tags in the middle of the screen.

I think many people here would be very pleased to be able to use this version (without the annoying tag). If you clearly state that it is not a stable version, that you won't fix any bug on this version, and if you keep 0.3 version on the store, I don't think it would be much more work for you. Just release your code in whatever state it is currently in, or if you made changes that introduced instabilities, just release the beta version from September 2012 without the tag, or with a little one in one corner if you want. That way, people would be able to enjoy SNES and PSX games on their N9, waiting for the next improved version.

Of course, it is your software, you're free to do whatever you want, but I think it would be nicer to have this development version to wait. Thanks again for your great work, and feel free to send again beta versions if you want some feedback and testing.

PS: don't know if you've seen, but Emumaster got ported to Plasma Active !

Due to the current state of the project, have the betatesters permission to share the current 0.4.0 beta version?

No, I know it would be hard for you to accept my decision, but I have good reasons. Beta testers have seen some touch of progress and they should be happy about it. Moreover I will not send any beta versions until I will finish first version of new project. Sorry one more time :(

Well, the only reason we had for not sharing it was that he wouldn't send new betas if we did. But he just said he wouldn't send any beta anyways. I made a donation for N64 support more than one year ago, and it is not even planned for the next version in 6 months. New version which will be based on Qt5, not officially supported on N9 !

And worst of all, I make a suggestion which sounds reasonable to me, and he doesn't even bother answering me directly.... Emumaster was supposed to be an open-source project. He could just copy the current source code on Github and someone else could package it as a development version. This would require very minimal work from him, and satisfy everybody, but he prefers to keep everyone waiting for no reason.

I consider that he didn't respect his share of the moral contract we had, I don't see any reason to respect mine. I don't like to be rude, but I'm really disappointed as he gave a lot of expectation with this project.

I thought that I wrote some good "piece" of code for dead platform, but I'm clearly wrong, so it may not happen in the same way in the future...

You did, and you are a big part of the reason I am still using my n9. Who cares if games are being developed for it, I can play ff tactics on my n9 thanks to you. So if I have been waiting for a long time for a new version its not that big of deal, its not like the current version is broke. it works great.

Please keep up the good work, don't let some pessimistic people discourage you. I am always very happy when developers like you bring great apps to such a small user base on a dead platform. I will continue to be happy and thankful to all the devs that keep doing so.

At least from me and hopefully from others, Thank You and I will keep waiting, and keep using my current version happily.

I don't hate you, I am working hard every day, all day, and some guy knows everything better, how can I feel.

N9 will be first platform where new EmuMaster will be released. From this point I am focused on development, so I will not reply frequently.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Guys, he can do whatever he wants, is his project, and his wishes, he even didn't have the need to release the code, but he did it. Go help him and code together if you want to see a better release of emumaster.

I feel lucky to have the oportunity to try such a nice emulator like no other platform had, even knowing MeeGo is a dead horse, even when he is only one man coding, with so much time and dedication needed (coding emulators is a hard task, it's not one-in-a-million fart app).

We should feel lucky to have access to the app for free, and me myself donate in the past for the project, and will do it again if i can motivate elemental to keep coding and supporting my phone and bring new cool features & fixes for the app. I'll do it without thinking a second. So please be nice and respect his decision. ;)

Yes you did and you'll notice I never questionned that. You are free to do whatever you want with your project. It is your project. But this is more a question of respect for people who put trust in you... Actually I don't care, by the time the next version will be released, it's very likely I won't have an N9 anymore.

Isn't it exactly what I suggested ? But to code together, you need to access the code...

Well, you have this (quite outdated) source. I think is from 0.2.0, last commit is from March 2012.
http://bitbucket.org/elemental/emumaster/

Elemental, maybe you can update the source to at least 0.3.0 ?

EDIT: As elemental said in the following post, source it's from 0.3.0 version.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

I'm one of the folks running the beta 0.4.0 build that you sent out via email for testing.

I understand and support your decision to not release the final 0.4.0 version update so you can prioritize your development time.

However, I was hoping that there would be something we could update to that would allow us to run Emumaster without the large BETA text in all four screen quadrants during gameplay.

Is there an interim package of the beta without the "BETA" text on screen that you could make available without support?

Or would we be better off downgrading to the older non-Beta version?

Yo PPL!
This is one of the best emulators i have seen till date. The games run smoothly and well elemental you should code this for windows 8, Trust me it will be a great hit! Also is there going to be a NDS emulator coming up due to the many rumors going on about it coming soon on emumaster once again ITS AWESOME! And i know this has taken u a long time to code but i play all kinds of GBA games for as long as i remeber and its good so:)
Keep it up

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

I don't think you'll ever see an NDS emulator on the N9. The CPU requirements are just not there. There was a working NDS emulator on the N900 and it only ran at like 1 frame every 5 seconds. The N9 CPU is not that much better so it would be pretty awful.

Elemental has already said he's stopped work on this iteration of Emumaster to work on a cross platform version, so you should be able to look for ward to it on Windows 8 at least.

RachTheAwesome 2013-03-22 05:03

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Fine and Thx for the info but I think the CPU requirments for the N9 are suited a 1GB RAM is sufficient to run DsEMu on my frnd's old computer and it runs smoothly and yeah on Windows 8 it'll be awesome also if there is an android verison as he has many emulaors he could earn money on the Play Store but keep it free for N9, It might earn him tons of money and i am looking forward to it running on different OSes

Can you add some comma when reply?

CPU and ram are different, and arm CPU differs from x86. Stop dreaming for NDS for N9.

Well, an NDS game running entirely smoothly on an N9 may not ever happen, but mupen64plus is just about usable. Gives a bit of hope for DS.

Yeah, but Mupen64 ran pretty good on the N900. It's really just a port of that binary over to the N9 that we're now seeing.

The NDS emulator on the N900 couldn't use the GPU, so it was just a proof of concept. Given the lack of new N9 development, I can't see someone recompiling in OpenGL ES2 support in an N9 version to make it anywhere near usable.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but that's kinda where we're at right now as N9 owners....
