Its a bit tricky to tell the difference between Update to existing apps and completely new apps.

Would be nice to make this clear so we can vote ONLY on the improvements made as per the rules.

Yep i know what you mean - you might have to do a bit of digging in the announce/support threads to get all the info you'd like. Or even ask the developer if it's not clear, I'm sure they would be happy that someone's taking an interest in their hard work :)

I'll be putting an all the update submissions together in a couple of posts later tonight after work which might make it clearer (the 'Updates' guys have been pretty good about listing the updates in their submissions, you'll see once i upload them), and the beginners too if I get the time. I can't access photobucket from behind my work filter unfortunately. I'll tidy up the wiki a bit at the same time, to make it clearer where everything is.

Edit: nice to see some new names on the "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread" list.. welcome, welcome.. :D

Personnally i didn't update them, except fixing a bug in sync in KhtNotes. I ll wait the end of the vote to made the 3.10 update availble it s add "stick note" feature.

Thanks cckwes :) I've also been adding the links onto the "Categories" section in the wiki. I'm not sure if we need 7 new threads just for the voting submissions, or perhaps one big one.. or if linking to the posts in here (like we're doing) would be fine for everyone. I might find a way to do the latter, but make it much clearer in the wiki so it's easier to find them.

Thanks Khertan :) Just so people are clear, Khertan's applications are all 'new' and are not in the Updates category - hence he's being good and waiting til the end of the vote before applying his feature update :)

Oh I wish I had eyes everywhere.. *waves imaginary stick at the sneaky updaters*

Hi Ryan,

First, I am sorry to hear about your friends. Second: great work! I don't know how you manage it :)

A little too little a little too late but I created this google site by just copying the information on your posts.
https://sites.google.com/a/crochik.c...e-competition/

It will be soon be also available at http://cc2012.crochik.com

Do you think there is any value to copy all the rest of the stuff here? I can do the initial copy and will be glad to give you access to edit it as well... Please don't feel obligated to - it is just me trying to help a little.... Hopefully nobody will think that I am trying to influence the voters :)

Let me know....

p.s. I tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full.... :(

Quick reply...
Voting right now. Where is the post containing the list of entries for category "Updates and development on existing apps"? And, "Beginners"?
[EDIT]Votes cast, in all categories.[/EDIT]
What would happen if all the voters cast their votes long before the voting deadline? Would the results be known sooner?
Best wishes. Thank you.

Re: 2012 Coding Competition

Hey fcrochik that site looks good! MUCH easier to follow than the various posts! I think kojacker should definitly use that.

A single page with all the info, in nice categories. Forums are not really designed for this.

How do I vote? I've link my accounts but I have no idea how to vote (can I even vote? - I am a particpant in the competition as well).

And another dumb question... who will vote and how to vote?

This should be clarified on the wiki page, I think.

I just created just for the occasion of proposing my application so I have a karma of 0. Does it mean I am not allowed to vote?

Anybody can vote as long as you have a karma of 10...You should be receiving the voting token now...Just link your TMO account to maemo.org account so that you can accumulate karma...

IIRC it takes 3 days for the linkage to complete...Try doing the link now and if you have 10 karma at least after the linkage you may request for a voting token if it isn't sent to you...

OK... I have finished my "copy and paste" from the posts into the web site.
Since I used half a brain for the process please make sure to review the information there and let me know of any issues.

Again.... If anybody has any objection or wants to have their information removed from the web site let me know....

I don't have any agenda or interest.... Just trying to help out... All the credit goes to kojacker for the great work!

It may be safer to keep me away from your server lest I may cause some late night editing havoc, but the address is the same one from the application submission, maemo.competition2012@gmail.com. Weird thing is, I'm getting invitation to NetBeans conferences to that address now whatever spambot has picked it up from the wiki?? :p

I notice the competition wiki has been accessed almost 300 times in the last 3 hours

The competition wiki doesn't say where you go to vote. It says the voting interface is the same as that for the council elections. I found the thread for the 2012 council elections. It didn't have a link to a place where I can vote.

Is this some kind of "in-crowd" filter?

Have you received your voting email Nexus7? That's where the link is to the vote is. The contents of the email was confirmed last night, it just hasn't been added to the wiki yet, but it's hardly a secret - the same link is used for every election style vote on maemo.org :)

Very simply, it's http://maemo.org/vote/

Here's the email contents (crafted by Woody i believe, thanks Woody!) for those yet to receive it:

Dear 'member of the incrowd',

Quote:

The 2012 Maemo.org Coding Competition elections are now open,
and you have received this email as you are eligible to vote. Please note that there are 7 distinct topics/categories, each with their own election, and each with multiple prizes to be awarded.

A full list of candidates, prizes, and rules can be found at:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo.org_coding_competition_2012

Discussions on the competition are at:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=83761

HOW TO VOTE
-----------
Voting will run from September 19th through September 27th 2012, 23:59 UTC.

Your voting credentials are:

URL: http://maemo.org/vote/
E-mail: XXXXXX
Vote token: XXXXXX

After authenticating yourself for a category, you can choose your
preferred candidates in order of preference. You will have an opportunity to verify and confirm your vote afterwards.

Once you have confirmed your vote, a unique secret identifier will be given to you which will allow you to verify after the election that your vote was counted correctly.

Once you have voted, you will not be able to vote in the same category/election again. The same token should be used in all categories/elections, but will only allow one vote per category/election.

Thank you for your vote(s)!
^^ The XXXXXX's will be replaced by your email address and super secret voting token.

A word about the super secret voting token - nobody knows what your token is unless you tell someone (please don't tell anyone, or else don't blame me when random votes appear for that app you really hate :p). It's the same token for each of the categories.

kojacker, is there a chance for post similar to:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=622

...for other categories? I've found, that it's very, very big help, when deciding whom to vote for.

Without any offense, entries in wiki are quite chaotic (not corresponding to categories layout during voting, lack of info for some entries, etc) - it's a pity, that program's authors haven't spent some time to upgrade wiki, describing their entries.

Oh that's my fault Estel, there's a post for all the categories except Updates and Beginners and I simply haven't got around to it yet. It'll be done tonight, and I'll cross check it with the wiki categories too :)

There is problem with download instructions links for PowEdit application.
Links are passive and have ending tag shown </p>, which I assume isn't supposed to be shown.

Thanks draxcp6, it seems to have been a paragraph tag stuck on the end of the announce link that I somehow copied and pasted in from the submission - updated now :)

Just like pretty much any election in our democratic world (and indeed our non democratic world), there is nothing to stop you from voting for yourself. But we hope you will make a judgement based on who you feels deserves the vote rather than just "me me meee" :)

You have enough karma aStrike, but I suspect you haven't received one because you have only been a member for less than 2 weeks (registration date September 7th 2012).

http://maemo.org/profile/view/astrike/

One of the things that the maemo.org voting mechanism does is to filter out new accounts. Unfortunately I think this has worked against you in this case :(

It's beneficial for the competition to filter out newer accounts at the time of voting. Anyone who remembers back to the first coding competition will remember there was a bit of an incident where one or more developers were asking friends on facebook to sign up and vote for their apps. We had loads of fake votes for applications, in the end we had to discount a lot of these and the final placings ended up a lot differently in some cases. Unfortunately it can work against individuals who are not false accounts or spam accounts, and who are simply new members. i can only apologise.

Darn that is unlucky jukra... you've obviously been around for a long time on tmo and it's unfair you won't get a vote imo but it appears to be the maemo.org account that counts for elections.

I've also made some fix to avoid repeating calls, and random calls.
By the default the feature is enabled and the timeout is setted to 1 sec

CacheMe
Developer: CaCO3
Category: Games, Graphics & Multimedia
Beginner: No
Platform: Harmattan

Application Description:

CacheMe is a geocaching application for the N9. It uses the geocache database from Groundspeak and the maps provided by Nokia, OpenStreetMaps and Cloudmade.
If you have GPX files you can also use it for limited offline geocaching.

CacheMe is developed and maintained by Till Harbaum. He provided me with the source and I was able to port it to the N9. The UI is written in Qt which means it would look very ugly and difficult to operate on the N9.
I was able to rewrite the UI and add stylesheets to make it more like a native N9 application.
Beside of the port I added new functionality like map scale and additional tools.
More information is available at my website: www.ruinelli.ch/cacheme.

Download Instructions:
Because it was very time consuming to difficult to port it and fulfil all of Nokias store requirements, it is not available for free.
There is a trial version (http://store.ovi.com/content/219788) and a full version ( http://store.ovi.com/content/304221) available.

Application Description:

MeeDocs is a Google Docs / Google Drive client. Back in January I released a version that could up- and download files to your Google Docs account, with an ugly UI as my very first Harmattan app.

It actually also works on Harmattan, with packages available from this OBS repository. Only the not-yet-full-featured (but fast) QML interface is available at the moment though. :)

I should have probably mentioned this in the installation instructions, sorry. :)

Allocine
Developer: Antoine Vacher
Category: Desktop, System & Utilities
Beginner: Yes
Platform: Harmattan

Application Description:

The goal of this application for MeeGo Harmattan is to access to popular cinema websites from AlloCine group with a native application. It is somewhat comparable in functionnalities to Android or iPhone applications. The information is accessed through the AlloCine API for wich information can be found here: http://wiki.gromez.fr/dev/api/allocine_v3

Note that this is not an official application, and we are in no way related to AlloCine company.

While initially developped in french only, the application will support all the websites powered by AlloCine API. At the moment the application supports the following services:
  • AlloCine (French - France)
  • Screenrush (English - United Kingdom)

The development was performed from scratch and this is my very first QT/QML application, and also my first mobile phone application.

Download Instructions:
The application is not yet on the Nokia Store, but a deb package can be directly downloaded from the project page:

http://tigre-bleu.github.com/allocine-harmattan/

Note that the application is opensource so the sources can also be downloaded from the GitHub repository.

More screenshots are displayed on the project page.

Alpha Strike

Category: Games, Graphics & Multimedia

Platform: Fremantle (N900)

Application Description:
Alpha Strike is a fast-paced 3D action shooting game in which you move the player with the accelerometer and shoot with the on-screen joystick. Your target is to shoot as many robotic enemies as you can while avoiding their attacks and using the health or weapon bonuses. As you kill more enemies, your score gets higher. The game was created by me from scratch and is original (not a port of an existing game). Alpha Strike was programmed on and for the N900 using C++. It uses SDL1.2 and OpenGL ES2.0 for the 3D graphics rendering. It is currently aimed for the N900, but I think it is fairly portable to other platforms too.
The game features include: High-res textures, varied and multicolored arenas, keyframe animations for the game figures, vertex buffer objects, interleaving and indexed arrays for better performance, highscores system, visual effects such as lighting with textures, simple reflections and shadows, textured animations with particles effects for explosions and bullet collisions, etc.

BioPower
Developer: jukra
Category: Other
Beginner: Yes
Platform: Fremantle (N900)

Application Description:

BioPower is my first ever open source release and as a such also a long time dream come true!

BioPower for Nokia N900 is tool to estimate solid bio fuel burner current input power. It listens and visualizes the sound of conveyor detecting the on / off cycles from the sound. From conveyor on / off cycles the current input power of the burner can be estimated. BioPower utilizes the capabilities of N900 in a clever way to accomplish this task.

BioPower is based on BabyPhone (version 1.0) of Robert Morawek. During the competition time
frame, I have done the following work to turn BabyPhone to BioPower:
- modified the mainscreen to fit BioPower
- modified the Settings screen to fit BioPower
- modified the About screen to fit BioPower
- developed double median filtering of audio samples (MovingAverage class)
- developed the automatic audio threshold level control for edge detection (in MainWindow::refreshAudioData)
- developed the edge detection based on the automatically controller threshold level on the
double median filtered audio samples (in MainWindow::refreshAudioData)
- developed the algorithm to estimate the input power of burner based on measured on / off cycles of conveyor (in MainWindow::refreshAudioData)
- added the display for: current power, current feed-%, last spiral period
- Removed ability to send SMS / make phone calls
- set up garage project and web pages for BioPower at http://biopower.garage.maemo.org/
- last and maybe the least changed the name of the project and the purpose of original application =)

Hopefully I did not forget anything =)

Download Instructions:
Download the .deb package into Nokia N900 from garage using link https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa....9.0_armel.deb Then in N900 file manager click the package and install it.

Kana of The Day
Developer: Hossein
Category: Other
Beginner: No
Platform: Fremantle (N900)

Application Description:

Kana of The Day is an application together with Desktop Widgets that shows one Japanese letter everyday so you can remember one hiragana and one katakana each day (or more than one if you wish).

The main application supports portrait mode, swiping your finger to go to next/previous letter. Tapping the home widgets will open the main app. You can also restrict the kana sets shown from the menu.

The database and categories (sets) are those from the `kanatest` project so after using this to remember the kana, you can use `kanatest` to test your knowledge.

Version 1.0 was a desktop application, supporting portrait and landscape modes and finger swipe, etc.
Version 1.1 I added two desktop widgets, one horizontal and one vertical, put them wherever on your desktop you’re OK with.

meeTrainer
Developer: paoletto
Category: Location & Navigation
Beginner: YES
Platform: Harmattan

Application Description:
meeTrainer is a sport-assistance application that allows to easily monitor, record and review sporting activities, as well as exporting the recorded data.

By making use of the internal gps receiver it records the position as well as the altitude and speed during the exercise, while also live feeding it to a monitor screen, that can be kept on during the training.

meeTrainer also supports bluetooth HRM chest belts (so far only those from Polar and SportsTracker) as data source, and can combine heart rate information and caloric consumption together with the gps data.

meeTrainer has been created with the specific purpose of providing accurate training data, and therefore it also includes gps data filtering, as the N9 gps receiver seems to provide somewhat noisy data.

meeTrainer also includes effective reviewing functionalities, providing monthly aggregates and charting of the recorded data.

I started meeTrainer because of the lack of alternatives for Harmattan: the only free alternative is, at the present, the app developed by SportsTracker, which, unfortunately, seems willing to cease the support for MeeGo.

For this reasons i believe that initiating a free alternative to sportstracker was a need, and i believe that in a very short time meeTrainer already attracted quite some interest from many N9 users that, like me, want to monitor their workouts but simply cant do it in a proper way right now.

Puppy File Server
Developer: saidinesh5
Category: Updates and development on existing apps
Beginner: Yes
Platform: Harmattan

Application Description:

Puppy File Server is a browser based File Manager for the Nokia N9(50). It simply exposes the MyDocs Directory of your N9(50) as a HTTP server with a gorgeous Web 2.0 UI based on the elFinder project. I have written a custom HTTP Server, with a QML UI...... so as to let the user filter out unwanted connections, thereby being able to safely use it on a network.

Project current status: Awaiting artwork, including a harmatanized icon. A couple of minor bug fixes (reported problems with the first time when one acceses the phone from certain browsers) on the way.
