The point is, mass makes individuals stupid. The point is that when iOS and WP were introduced they were missing a lot of standard features from current OSes. The point is that if someone expected a perfect device with a new OS from a 2 years old company with ~100 employees has no idea about anything. The point is that in 80% of your posts you are bitching about outlook and mail, so get yourself some ultrabook with outlook and spare us from your whining.

Honestly, I'm not pleased with what I'm reading in first impressions and with some other things Jolla decided (not) to do although I can understand the reasons behind most them. On some, not at all, but I'm not bitching about them in every post. Is sailfish perfect? No. Will it ever be? No. Does it lack some of the most common features from others? Yes. Does it offer something that others don't, even in it's current state? Yes. And most of them will never officially come to any of other 3 major players. At least, Jolla still have time to move forward in the right direction.
There's plenty of choice, go somewhere elese. Why are you hanging on forum which is dedicated to OSes that you don't like?

Back on topic.
Battery life: Full charge completed at 6:50am .
Full day of work, demos galore and sat nav on for the 30 minute drive home.Full brightness on, 37 minutes of calls but no Android apps used.
Now 11:15 and down to 8% with first battery warnings.
Not bad imho

Sorry, but I must.

Once upon a time there was an idiot named Lumiaman, he was so stupid his head caved in. The end.

Jolla rocks!

Just for my own curiosity, can you run through a rough list of applications you had open by terms of how long?

And what's your typical usage pattern? Screen off with apps open, or do you close apps when you're done?

nah, people without a phone at this point can still ask interesting questions. Not to mention that interaction works as a sales pitch ;-)

Hi there,

Didn't see the question/answer in the PiratePad, so please excuse me if it has already been asked, but does Jolla support LTE at the moment ? (800Mhz, 1800Mhz and 2600Mhz freq bands)

Thanks :)

The Verge just did some coverage on Jolla.
http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/29/5...nds-on-preview

It seems they aren't impressed by the hardware (too expensive, or too weak), the software (UX, bugs, etc) and the ecosystem (non-existent, Android App Sideloading).

Anyways, that's just the hands-on... a full-review should be available in a couple days/week.

I wonder how The Jolla will improve in the next 6 months.
Will it be just like the Nokia N9? (Where it gets better, but mainly things that should be there from day 1)
I just hope this doesn't disrupt Jolla too much, and a much more ambitious Jolla 2 is in the works.

Here is a small review/notice about the phone from Australia!

http://www.theage.com.au/digital-lif...128-2yb9a.html

It is a little Android centric but not too bad.

I hope to see another hw with sail soon. Bigger phone and bigger screen maybe add a pen to the mix or a clock. Jclock.

I'm not sure if they found a y use case where it was to weak or just read the spec and made up their own minds.

Has anyone managed to get Outlook.com account working with Exchange?

I tried to add my outlook.com account to Jolla and everything went fine but it won't sync anything.

I have all my Contacts, calendars etc on my outlook.com account. My companys Exchange account works fine, although it should require you to use a pin code, but seems that Jolla/Sailfish doesn't require it.

What are your settings that you're using? And you do know that Outlook.com can be setup with IMAP, right?

There should be an app for that! :)
(and it should come from Jolla so it asks the right questions, and be opensourced so we'll know it doesn't ask intrusive questions)

One gripe I do have is the status bar. When you double tap into the start screen/home screen, you see the clock and your Wi-Fi status showing. Why not also show the battery info to the right of the clock? .You could also show the network status just below the battery%

I just don't see the point in hiding the clock, network status etc.
My N9 had billboard showing battery status so I could see at a glance. The jolla requires me to double tap and then swipe just to check my battery.

p.s. I have fed this back to Jolla support team too.

Sorry my memory is just not that good plus I was busy picking up from two days away in Helsinki.
My typical usage is to leave apps open that I know I will come back to so typically 3 to 4 apps will remain open, plus I was making a multi tasking quick video for my blog so was trying out lots of open apps.

Because they are switching display off completely (or the backlight at least) to save battery, and i like that! ;)

I know that. I'm not talking about the lack of a lock screen. I'm talking about the inital home screen after you double tap . It just shows the clock and wifi, why not show the battery status too, there is room to the right of the clock.

Angry Birds works fine with Jolla. Installed and played it last night :)

Yesterday before installing Angry Birds the Yandex.Store started to be unstable in many ways. It crashed randomly. I could fix that by closing all other apps (Sailfish apps). After that Yandex.Store didn't crash but it was giving errors when I tried to see details of Android apps or my account. I fixed this by reinstalling Android support via Jolla Store.

Thanks for that.

It strikes me that nobody is raving about getting XMPP video call to work (a feature that came with the N900 as if it was natural),

XMPP (Android app of choice): is the hardware accessible: camera, microphone: do calls work?

SIP calls (Android app of choice): is the hardware address correctly how good is the call quality over Wifi and 3G if it must.

Ok Android apps may be running laggy according to gizmogadget &co. But a core communication application like SIP can't be that heavy on this hardware even running on a virtual layer.

Am I such a minority outcast to assume that I use my "smart"phone primarily to extend the functionality of the 90's mobile phone and that I use my PC as a gaming platform?

Are we all still loyal bill payers to mobile phone operators? No SIP no XMPP? No Skype video call even?

Anyone of the kind Jolla users / makers out there listening?

I'm still waiting for My Jolla but few things I'm missing already ;)
- I can read there is no RSS or Facebook or Twitter notification on events screen?
- and nobody mentioned a SWYPE on keyboard?

Thanks!

I know I could wait until my Jolla is here, but perhaps someone has already tried this: Will the last.fm scrobbler app work or will it fail to catch the songs the Jolla media player plays? (And if so, would an android music player app work or will they have trouble communicating in the sandbox?)

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

There are twitter and facebook event notifications. This is also a twitter feed but I can't get the facebook feed working but it will take you to your facebook account feed via the browser.

I don't use RSS.

There is no native Swype Keyboard. There is a Swype style keyboard on yandex but yet to try it as i would rather install proper swype.

Interested to hear about this as well... probably one of the first few things I'd poke at if/when I get the phone.

There isn't Swype keyboard. There is a keyboard API, so third party can implement it. Based on @JollaHQ tweets it seems Jolla doesn't have any plans to license/subcontract Swype keyboard.

Edit: Ah, bockersjv had already answered these. Didn't notice it :)

Update to Exchange calendar support info:

You can see multiple calendars and their events, but you can't create events to them, as there is no selection method in the GUI for this. Also, you can't delete events from other than the main calendar.

Not sure about this, but I think I read somewhere that contacts syncing doesn't work right now. Calendar seems to work (sort of) based on the post above.

It was mentioned that it appears to work better, but obviously all these transmission issues take some time to test/reproduce, and it hasn't even been a week :-)

I didn't see if there was a problem; just an inquiry. Tried to search for a response, but nothing doing.

Thanks. I just hope that somebody can say definitively if there is/is not an issue with wi-fi and bluetooth - especially earpieces.
