If you need i'm willing to do test runs on Q7.
But i'm not a hacker only a simple PC user (who have installed a lot of different linux distr. on my PCs)

well so this smart q5 could be considered a "n800+" ? with the capabilities to make graphics drivers, a little faster hardware and bigger screen?

besides the original OS and mer, what else would run properly? is it REALLY better than a n800 at all?

Except it doesn't have a dpad. It's probably lacking a few other N800-isms as well (does it have 2 full size SD card slots?)

I think it has just one SDHC slot

I am on the point of buying one but just want to wait a day or so to confirm that the Viliv X70 is out of my budget. The X70 is touted as having Linux as an optional os

Well, it is smaller in all dimension, and noticeably lighter. It has a slightly bigger screen (3-4%). SD performace is much better (at least 3 times as fast). It has much better video performance (closed source for now). It has potential (spec available) for 2D and 3D acceleration. It has TV out (not supported yet).

On the other hand it has only one speaker, it does not have a microphone or camera. It has a lot less buttons. You can't use bluetooth and USB client at the same time (bluetooth and USB host together is possible). It has one SD slot and 1GB internal card. It does not have easily replaceable battery. Build quality appears lower (it could be specific to my N800 and Q5, but I guess not).

Overall, I would call it a better device. Not better enough to buy as a N800 replacement, unless playing high resolution video is considered essential, but better enough to buy if you want to buy a device for running Mer, and those are your two options.

But I am biased for hackable hardware, so it is likely that the leaked 6410 datasheet is the main reason for my preferring the Q5.

That's what I was thinking (from reading things here). It seems like it's in the same "pocketaable keyboardless tablet" category as the N800... and certainly a more modernized design... but not really an N800+.

Sorry johnkzin, I misread the 5 and posted info for the SmartQ 7.

Guess I really need that bigger screen, huh?

Size does matter ... the bigger, the better
I'm thinking to get a Q7 too !

I wonder, what is better for the Q7, the original Ubuntu or Mer ?

Thanks a lot, very helpful.

Does it accept external microphone input? (I'm wondering if it's VOIP-capable.)
