I tried to do my homework and failed miserably: How to stop the maemoMapper from trying to connect when you are off line or simply not interested to connect? It keeps on trying no matter what my connectivity settings are. TIA,

Re: Maemo Mapper Repositories

Hi folks.. I think my brain must be broken.. I'm trying to figure out how to/ if I can build a repository from the mapfan.com english maps..
Page: http://www.mapfan.com/en/en_m.cgi
Maptile format: (the set of 4)
http://en.mapfan.com/cgi-bin/map/mfw...)N35.9.22.(128)
http://en.mapfan.com/cgi-bin/map/mfw...)N35.9.22.(128)
http://en.mapfan.com/cgi-bin/map/mfw...N35.10.37.(128)
http://en.mapfan.com/cgi-bin/map/mfw...N35.10.37.(128)

Do I have a chance here, and I should keep slogging and try to figure it out, is it just not compatible, or is it so simple that someone can point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance, eh?

It seems Google have changed the URL again, this now works for me:
Code:

http://mt.google.com/vt/v=w2.97&hl=en&x=%d&y=%d&zoom=%d

sounding like an idiot doesnt bother me much, so here it goes...

what is the benefit to using these maps? is it purely graphical, or is it an updatedness issue? thanks.

Ok, teach a man to fish. How did you discover that URL?

Let me tell you it took a lot of pain. I'm looking to use maemo-mapper for a road trip through Europe in the near future and was tearing my hair out trying to get the maps downloaded. I had googled this forum and just about every other resource i can find to get more information on the map tile servers. If you are interested in the URL formats this is one of the best resources i have found: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/scrapb...?display=Print unfortunately it still references older links.

Eventually after much confusion inspiration struck, all i did was go to the Google maps web page, right clicked on a tile and checked its source URL. Yes it is that simple (-:
