Sometimes it needs a reboot to make the launcher appear again. It kills the camera-ui and then opens the pop-up if something goes wrong the popup will not appear and the camera will open until a reboot. This is why Copernicus doesn't what to play with this solution. |
Re: [Announce] Lanterne - an all-purpose flashlight app
Yes, this is excactly what i meant, I usually have screen brightness at 3 or so but when in a dark situation when you want to use the torch (in a unlit staircase for example when you want to find the keyhole on the door) the screen can be quite bright so temporarily setting it to lowest setting while the application is running (using it as flashlight with the white leds) might be a solution. switching the screen off when the torch is lit is easy enough with the side switch but blocking it with a DBus call might be more annoying than usefull i think :-)

I do *not* recommend camera lesn cover launcher. It uses ~6Mb of RAM all the time for no reason, and it's bugged. I got rid of it ages ago, but gave another chance, after noticing sixwheeledbeast is using it. Well, nothing changed - memory waste as it was, and after trying to set it up, it got hopelessly stuck into allowing only *one* program to be selected from pop-up (no ammount of reboots/killing helped). Also, ocassionaly it spawns few clones of own process. Got rid of it, and returned to quicklaunch with pleasure. /Estel |

[OT]I must have been unusually lucky with Camera Launcher then. No problems to report - other than slowing down laumching the camera of course, since I have to select from a bunch of apps.[/OT]
Regarding dimming the screen, why not just pull the slider on the side? |

I finally got it today and i must say i'm surprised about the quality of this product which seems very good. the transparent part which you can see the n900's screen through allows you to use the touch screen almost exactly as using it directly. the grasp of the phone is very solid - it fits exactly to the n900's size. you don't have confortable access to the power/volume buttons but that's not an issue for me. |
Re: [Announce] Lanterne - an all-purpose flashlight app
Quick question...
Will Lanterne be ported to Nemo Mobile? And a version for N9/50? Best wishes. _________________ Per aspera ad astra... |

Re: [Announce] Lanterne - an all-purpose flashlight app
In addition to my "add an option to lock the screen on lens close/application close" idea.
I wish to propose another from experience :) An option so when the torch timer expires it flashes a light (red or white) or maybe even beeps every 3 seconds or so. I went up into a customers dark loft space today with my Lanterne and propped it up against a wall so I could see. I left the loft space to check something but upon my return the light timer had expired and the device was "missing". 15 minutes later (after borrowing a nearby If-fone of all things) found that the clever N900 had managed to slide down the roof joist, bounce off some cabling and roll itself up in some loft insulation. It seems the vibration from someone digging the pavement up outside had disturbed it. A "Lanterne Standby Light" may have helped locate and not forgot the location of your device. |
