You had the right directory & launched tear-bookmarks before, so nothing new. Problem's always been launching from Personal-Menu.

I uninstalled / installed tear & then tear-bookmarks according to bongo's instructions, post #334, and his way in that post puts the tear-bookmarks in /home/user/bookmarks/

Quote:

Open the command line
type:

wget http://kup.vdst-aachen.de/maemo/tear-bookmarks.tar.gz
tar xzvf tear-bookmarks.tar.gz
cd bookmarks
python tear-bookmarks.py
I also have Python Launcher installed - don't set to disabled but option one or two AND click OK before closing:
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/pylauncher/

Finally set Personal-Menu's 'Command to execute' box to:
Code:

python /home/user/bookmarks/tear-bookmarks.py
People need to change the path if theirs is different. Also as suggested here otherwise, setting paths within Personal-Menu's command-to-execute box DOES work and you don't have to be in the right directory to launch as I showed with the leafpad example. Also I don't get terminal box launches, never mind two of them, either. :)

The bookmark app needs 3 features, in order of priority: Export, import & folders.

Has anyone used this update-by-append-only resource before?

Folders will be in the next release (this will be 0.9). I've got it running here, but there are still problems with drag&drop.
(If someone has made drag&drop working between two treeviews please contact me ;) )

Bundyo and TrueJournals still have to implement a way to support foldes in their apps!!

Import/Export will be possible later! (what formats do you want/need?)

Maybe I can post my coding results after weekend :)

I think the drag'n'drop and double panels are luxuries right now and a basic create/delete folder command is a necessity. But even more necessary is the 'export' feature so at least we can manage/save our current surfing efforts in other browsers while you're finishing. Then import would be nice followed by create/delete folders. The simple and normal html format template generated by other browsers when exporting bookmarks is just fine.

Thanks very much for your great work and others too, much appreciated.

P.S. Love the screen shots :D

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard

No drag in bookmarks AFAIK. The main glitch in Tear is not a certain site or the crashing on input elements (scrollbar etc.) as I don't mind the frequent crashes considering Tear's speed & handling + restore features but personally:

- Saving files with incorrect names popping up (biggest reason for going back to microb right now). Also remembering last folder to save in & not mistaking new page elements as files to be saved.

- Basic word search in page feature. Preferably in menu so as not to crowd precious screen real-estate with only a tiny icon at bottom maybe, +> or >>, to find the next occurrance.

- Selecting text issues: 'Selecting All' in menu (no ctrl+A in N800 unless toggling to matchbox kb). Repeated clicking should select word, then paragraph then whole text area as in others, not initiate crash in some cases.

- Recognizing some page elements better specially media/plugin ones where it fails currently.

- A flash block feature would be a nice luxury.

Having said that even if I have to wait a year for some or all of those features or not have a heavy unresponsive/slow version then I'm happy to still use Tear as my main browser of choice.

P.S. It would be nice if clicking on the url box selected the whole field as in most browsers plus setting homepage & clearing cache/history. How many hundreds work full-time for Bill Gates' MS-Explorer department? :D

So thanks very much already Bundyo.

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard

I've noticed some strange behaviour and I'm wondering if it the same for anyone else. When editing my wordpress blog I've noticed that numericfields are getting cropped one digit before they should. In the case of date fields, if I edit a post from the 28th and update in tear, the post winds up against the 2nd. When resizing images, even if the original size is 4 digits, eg 2048 I can't set it to 1024 because I am restricted to 3 digits.
anyone else seen this?

Continuing from my last post on what I said about Gates' MS-explorer backed up by huge resources and Google's too: In the 1970's Xerox's Palo-Alto lab developed GUI & never profited from it but Jobs & then Gates did. Nokia missed the boat on N7/8/9xx. They should have put million$ into it's R&D and specially Tear like winners. But big corps are blind bureaucratic dinosaurs.

BTW on all handhelds, the screen should cover the whole area with the speakers at top center rim and popping up if needed. I predicted the web as a kid, HD MP3s, dirt cheap micro-projectors (coming now) and more. Next? Rolll up screens and watch-sized computers. After that? I researched it at university, when I was still interested in computers that is, but you'll just have to wait and see. If they let you have it which I doubt.

Used to have a Fin girlfriend (think the guy in the video's one too), they're probably busy dreaming of poems, drinking and selling phones to even notice or care. Probably most of their shares bought up by one of the top offshore private banks benefitting secretly behind the current bailouts anyway. So who cares there? No one. Anyway more than surfing I use ebooks, waiting for this, week long battery life and ultra-thin & gettinger better & perfect for long hikes:

Seems to me like you've made 50% of posts in this thread so maybe I can expect you read the other 50%. When software is marked as alpha/not end-user friendly then it is NOT END-USER FRIENDLY.

Without insulting you: You are an end-user!

Personal Menu being a different app than the Nokia's Standard Launch Panel? I can see the settings to enable Tear in panels, but it doesn't show up there.

I've installed tear-bookmarks from repo, do I also have to manually download the gz-file and expand it in my user folder?

I never used personal-launcher which is not part of the sys:
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/O...rsonal-launch/

I think most use personal-menu:
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/O...personal-menu/

If you already installed tear-bookmarks AND know where it is (default seems to be /home/user/bookmarks) just call it in personal-menu's command-to-execute box when clicking to add the item ( CLICK + ICON > COMMAND), third box (DDBus) is not usually needed with most apps as in this case:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...&postcount=683

Edit personal-menu command is in the same menu, settings, where you find control-panel on the desktop after you install it. Also Control Panel > Panels: lets you stick it/move it on the desktop.

This is getting out of hand. If someone wants to discuss what Nokia is up to, please do it in different thread. And please remember that Tear is just an interface to WebKit. Thank you in advance.
