I use Clarivue clear screen protector. One month down, just one minor scratch. Also, you get two protectors in the package, which is nice!

I shall recommend.

I bought the full body Zagg screen protector. It is not very good. The surface of the screen is 'sticky' and sliding your fingers over it is not good. The black applicator sponge leaves black spots on the protector itself.

This is a very expensive non performing product. The warranty requires you to return the Zagg product and does not allow you replace if due to user application error.

Overall, I rate this product 0 out of 10. Complete waste of time. Very, very disappointed after paying over $20 for it.

Other people have complained that the body armour itself lifts on the edges. We will see.

This looks like the closest thing I have seen to a perfect case! I might have to order one.

I have the standard Nokia case (came free), but it's pretty useless with headphones in. And it doesn't protect the top of the screen, which is where I recently noticed a small dent =0(

Just applied invinsible shield for my N900 and I have been quite happy with it so far.

Instalment of the protector is quite fast and easy you just need to be carefull with positioning.

In my opinion the surface of the protector ain't that bad. I think it's better than the bare screen at least when using your finger tip and it has no impact on using the stylus. When using your finger nail it feels a bit sticky but it ain't that bad. Most importantly the shield seems to protect the screen really well.

I had no problems with the applicator sponge it didn't leave any marks. However few small fiber pieces came of the cleaning cloth and one tiny piece got stuck under the protector, thankfully you can barely see it unless the screen is totally white.

Overall I'd give this protector 7½-8/10. If you can afford the N900 you can definitly spare 20$ on a decent protector.

I'll post few pictures of the protector on the phone when i get back home.

Damn - thought I was the first to spot this!

I have the PDair aluminium case and modified it b opening up the aperture so it looks like one of the silicone hardcases. Pics are here

The PDair case is great but a little awkward to use; You have to unclip the hinged lid to slide open the keypad and you're not careful the clasp can catch the screen of the keypad is open. A screen protector is a must but would probably not protect the screen enough in the worst case scenario.

I found the cheap 'composite hardcases' on ebay OK but they needed a bit of finishing with fine glasspaper to open smoothly and the lugs broke off mine real early. I've never seen one yet with a neat join between the two case halves.

Looking forward to ordering the Otterbox - should be a good product.

Hey,

received my Noreve FlipCase this week. It was definetly worth waiting for it. It was a on demand order, I chose an ebony tradition leather from the ambition series. So I had to wait ca. 5 weeks, but the case is great.

The case is very high quality. and theres no magnet clip.

Just a note for (mostly german?) users interested in EXIM screen protectors:
https://www.displayschutzfolien.com/index.php?cmd=start

Their newer versions also come with a cut-out corner for front camera and proximity sensor. Since I disliked the new design, I called their support to send it back. They told me quite a couple of users complained about the protector for causing heavy problems with the senser. Since I already had one of these installed (the older, full display version), I couldn't recproduce any problems related to the covered sensor.
Anyways, they'll produce a full covered one for me again and will send them for exchange with the cut-out one. So if you are going to order one here, you might should talk with them first if you are expecting/wanting a fully covered variant.

Now I am curious:
Has anyone here ever had any problems in terms of the proximity senser with a full-cover screen protector? I am talking about those "Ultra Clear" protectors (or whatever other companies might call them), not anti-glare or matt variants.

I got the Lexerd from Amazon. You only get one sheet, i have had it on my '900 for almost 2 months now. it does the job, just be very careful and take your time applying the protector so that you dont get any air bubbles or grit inside.

on the whole, the edge of the sticker has the potential to look grubby becuase the adhesive doesnt go to the very edges of the screen protector.

but, regardless, my screen has no scratches, no grubby oily smudges, etc :D

would i buy this type of screen protector again, yes. it does the job and i have no complaints.

i have had an invisible shield on now for 5 months and its still good, you get used to the tacky feeling pretty quickly.

i also have a nok CP-321 case which i do not now recommend having dropped the phone and denting and scratching the bezel which sticks out the top of the case... time to try pdairs pouch which hopefully will be better at protecting my n900!

impressed with the build quailty of the n900 though as a similar drop to concrete shattered the screen on my wife's iphone...

I got a clear snap-on case from fleabay. Some extraneous plastic 'flash' (for those uinfamiliar with the term, its the bits that are left over when you snip plastic parts from a model kit and other moulding inconsistencies), but they were easily filed off.

Like it a lot - so much so I've bought a couple of spares - doesn't get in the way, doesn't add a lot of bulk, easily removable, dead cheap (Like $3) and provides all the protection I'd reasonably want in terms of everyday abrasion resistance. I have similar cases for the Droid from the same guys, but the design isn't as good.

Screen Protectors - UK TEK:

Following a reccommendation from Bockersjv (Thanks for that) I ordered a 7-pack of UK Tek screen protectors as my Proporta screen protector had become scratched.

Although thinner, these far cheaper units offer amazing clarity compared to the Proporta with it's grained finish. The Proporta is an excellent product, but I missed the quality & clarity of the N900 screen...

There are cutouts for the speaker, camera and proximity sensor and they are an excellent fit. They are easy to apply - I have no bubbles at 1st attempt and adhesion looks good.

The feel and screen action are not as good as the Proprta - noticeably so when corkscrew-zooming. The high gloss finish shows fingerprints and I don't expect them to last as long, but the the low price means I can replace them every couple of weeks or so.

Most importantly for me, the screen clarity is vastly superior.

I've just ordered some more and some for the wife's N97 Mini.

I've only had it for about a week now but so far it rocks. All ports and stylus/speakers/camera are available all the time, sliding out keyboard is cake. Rubbery port covers keep that usb port clean.

I don't have a lot of experience with screen protectors but this one seems to work totally fine for me. I even like the size of the case itself as it fits in my hands better (less dropping!)
I haven't dropped it hard yet so I'm not sure how well the case actually protects, but it seems strong and definitely tons better than nuthin'. It did take a sec to get used to getting the stylus out and moving the lock switch (fingernail) but I'm already a pro at it. Definitely worth the $.

Otterbox now has a N900 case on their website.

http://www.otterbox.com/nokia-cases/nokia-n900-cases/

I purchased one of these cases last week and it arrived on Monday.

The case is made of a hard black plastic material and comes with one screen protector. Note that the screen protector does not have a cutout for the front-facing camera, just for the speaker.

Installation of the included screen protector was extremely easy, as long as you follow the instructions included. The screen protector seems to be of fairly good quality, and you can easily 'smooth out' any bubbles trapped under it. You can peel it back and re-apply it if it doesn't go to well the first time.

The case itself is very good quality. The back piece has a silicone inner liner that provides some additional shock resistance.
The front piece just snaps to the front of the device, and that's about it. All ports and switches are accessible; the micro-usb and earphone jacks have little flaps that open up, while the power/camera/volume buttons have a thinner 'permanent' silicone cover that enables you to use them just fine.
Overall, the case adds maybe 1/8" to the overall thickness of the device, but I can still carry it in my front jeans' pocket without issues.

Some have mentioned the stylus is difficult to get out, and that is true. I don't use the included stylus; I have one of those Fisher Space Pens with the stylus tip, and I love it.
It's a bit pricey (around $20 on Amazon), but the size and weight are nearly perfect, and it's small enough to fit in your pocket without causing any discomfort.
Here's an old review for it: Click!

I hope this is useful for some of you thinking about purchasing this case.

I tried the Martinsfield screen protector on my n800 and was very dissatisfied. It was scratched within days of applying it. I've allways been very happy with either the clear or antiglare versions from Boxwave. So I put one of those back on. I got several pouches from http://thepouch.com/ for my different toys. I'm very happy with these. No magnets to interfere, very low profile, and offer the best protection so far. I've had leather cases so far from PD Air and Fortte. I like the ones from The Pouch best.

Mine arrived today.

Overall impression - very well made. The casing has a harder, less tactile surface than the rubberised qubits case.
The tiny flanges clipping it onto the device look sturdy.

All cutouts and ports are perfectly placed - except, for those who use it, they forgot to include a small hole for the lanyard...easily remedied with a heated darning needle or wire.

The faceplate clips don't seem to interfere with the sliding mechanism at all.

The silicon flap which covers the usb port has me wondering what stresses it will place on the charging plug - it will tend to flip up and exert I imagine some pressure on the micro-usb connector from below. Given that I've babied my usb connectors from day 1 (filed prongs down, always connected charger with microsurgical precision :p) I'm considering cutting the flap free with an exacto knife so it can be pulled off when charging. Comments from other otterbox owners welcome.

I have small fingers, but even so the stylus and screen unlock ports are recessed enough to require careful finger(nail) access.

Sorry, no pics - digital camera not working ATM !

Overall, a sturdy, well-made case.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Looks good but I wonder how practical it is: what do you do when your phone rings? Do you take it out its case or you bend the front backwards?
Also it doesn't seem to have a belt clip, so it becomes a rather large unit to carry in you pocket or hands.

Then again: for that price you can't really go wrong.

I bought a Samsung screen protector to protect new phone, as I have a long fingernail, and it is a touch screen, so should be protected carefully, so I bought the whole body screen to protect my phone, it is very nice, it looks a new one after using few month.

Just wanted to show the cheap but practical "dual option": a rubberized hard case + a 5 USD generic canvas pouch.

The good thing about this combination is that the N900+hardcase nicely fit in the pouch, unlike the customized N900 cases (that are made for a "naked" N900). I put the N900 in with the screen towards my body, so that it is well-protected. I will have to make a small hole in the cover of the pouch so that the earphone will fit through.

I purchased the rubberized hardcase from the internet and the canvas case at a local suitcase-shop (with cheap stuff).

An other advantage is that the canvas pouch doesn't look very fancy (unlike some of the beautiful Noreve cases) so potential thieves are not interested.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I have stopped using the Brando aluminum case, because of the clip system that just gets jammed if you sit down with the N900 in vertical position. My leg turns the N900 screen up, while my belt keeps the clip system vertical. This is not a movement permitted by the case/clip joint, so the case just jumps from the clip system, which was supposed to keep it locked. And the lock has to be tinkered with (with a screwdriver or something else) to get back to its place.

Anybody else with this problem ? How do you deal with it ?

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I'm planning to get myself an N900 in the next couple months and found this thread looking for case ideas (ok, so I like to shop ahead of time).

I like the idea of the Otterbox (it appears to have pretty full protection for the screen and everything else, and I like the kickstand), but it doesn't have a belt clip (as far as I can tell).

Is anyone using the Otterbox along with a horizontal case with a belt clip that is easy to pull the N900 out of when you need it (such as a call coming in...)?

Or is there something else that provides similar full protection and a kickstand that has a clip already?

Do I even need to worry about the kickstand (i.e. is it actually usable or just a pain)?

Thanks!

bioman 2010-05-25 17:08

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

The kickstand comes with the N900, and the manufacturers of most hardcases (like the Otterbox) make sure you can still use it while the case is attached.
Btw: for more info about the Otterbox for the N900 + some (bad-quality) pictures see also this thread.

The Otterbox (and other plastic or aluminium hardcases) make the unit larger and therefore almost impossible to fit in most N900-specific horizontal or vertical pouches/cases that you attach to your belt. If you want to use the Otterbox + a belt-pouch, I think that your only option is a generic pouch, or a pouch for an other (larger) gadget (camera, MP3-player, Nintendo DS, etc) that somehow fits the N900.

And I never use the kickstand, although it may come in handy if you want to watch movies during a long flight.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Thanks. I looked at the aluminum one from pdair as well, but it seems you have to open the case to fully open the phone, which seems to give the Otterbox the edge for me.

I'm wondering if the Otterbox could be "modded" to add a belt clip such as the one Zcover uses in their smartphone covers (sadly they don't make one for the N900 - I have one for my old Cowon iAudio X5).

(If you can't mount it properly, perhaps some double sided tape or Krazy Glue would do the trick...)

http://www.zcover.com/store/catalog/...Page=PZUCLIPIN

*Edit*
I guess you need this part too (the tab/lock set on the left) - it actually connects to the device case and then the various clips attach to it:

Actually when I posted that, I hadn't yet received my Easecase. However, now I have this.

It is really solid, grips the phone fantastically well (in fact you could say too well as it's trickyish to pull out sometimes). I love it a lot, couldn't imagine a better case for the N900.
