Ok, here's Peter@Maemo Marketing's post list.

Here's the big bombshell post where he announced that the N900 was delayed to November (that was relayed around the Internet, conveniently stripped of its origins).

Here's the post where he said there will be a Nokia press release when they start shipping.

In fact, that post is still relevant, so here is the relevant part quoted:

I didn't say I cancelled my pre-order... just kind of tired of waiting...and all release dates by retailers are probably BS anyway.
I found a new hobby to keep me occupied for now... Arduino hacking... which is something I can do now while I wait.

But this German store [Printus24.de] lists the delivery date for the Nokia N900 3 Calendar week of the Year 2010.

I can see a reason for doing that. You want a place in your shopping cart so it's ready to go. You don't want to do a pre-order shopping cart because you don't know availability and you don't want to have to answer all the "when will it be available emails and phone calls". Then when it's available, you change the date and go live.

i would have to disagree on that one, by doing what you say, nobody will order from them. No one buys from a store that is saying 2010 when there are dozens of stores having november 2009 as release date.

In the long term view, very few people pre-order. The day it becomes available, they'll be as good as anyone else in the game. For a smaller vendor, it would not make sense to not clog themselves with email. And as you say, nobody will pre-order as they are now. They can chnage their date the minute something certain happens. They also start showing up on search engines. All they have to do is edit one line on their webpage and orders start rolling in.

Still, you are basing everything on "very few people pre-order" which is not correct, i can guarantee you that over 90% of the ppl on this thread has already pre-ordered, and thats why we are all sitting here, slowly but surly getting crazy.. and believe its not only we on the thread that have pre-ordered :)

You're missing the point. In the entire universe of people who will buy the N900, this forum is a drop of water in the ocean. If you look at the run of this phone when it's done, if it is successful, the pre-orders will be nothing percentage wise. If everybody in this thread buys pre-orders 10 units, it's nothing.

Think about it, there is virtually no pre-order advertising. Penguins in Antarctica knew about the iPhone before it came out. The DROID advertisements are all over the place, and I have not been looking for them. If they are going after iPhone numbers, they better up their game.

Just a definitive date would be welcome, I hate how they keep us guessing, N97 was way better here in the US fro NokiaUSA for preorder, they actually shipped early for me [said 25th June, shipped 12th June].

nokia/brightpoint, put a hold fro the funds on my credit card again yesterday.

those last for 10 days.

they did that 10/1/09 and then again on 10/11/09, but then there was an announcement for November, and now 11/1/09.

agreed, especially when WE know more then the sales people on the phone...why would thier input even be relevant.
