Lovely work you have done here my friend, I wish you the best.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Would not it be better to compile a Openoffice 3.2 for Maemo 5?
Is it not feasible? |

Also, I keep having problems fetching some packages... (EG: libc-dev-bin_2.10.2-2_armel.deb and no, updating the package list didn't solved anything) I guess that switching to ubuntu would also save me tons of time figuring out about those "broken" repos |

qole, does the openoffice.org-gtk 1:3.1.1-8 armel package exist somewhere on the web, or would I have to go back to the pristine v3b image if I wanted it back?

Please advise on this seemingly simple issue:
The LXDE menu ("start button") in Easy Debian is now gone or hidden. The 'processer used' bar graph is also missing. I cannot browse through the different applications within LXDE now. I have searched heavily and can't figure out how to restore the LXDE menu ("start button"). I'm sure this is operator error, please advise. Thank you again for creating such a great application! |

Thanks for the tip, how do I upgrade to the v3b image? My Application Manager is not showing any needed upgrades on the N900 at this point (I just checked).
Please let me know Quote:

I finally created a symlink with that name in /usr/lib (in the debian file system) and linked it to libgoffice-0.8.so.8.0.0 in the same directory. Abiword now starts as it should, but I can't yet verify that everything works correctly. |

Good evening,
After performing the upgrade to the v3b image (which seems to have completed successfully)the LXDE menu ("start button") in Easy Debian is still gone or hidden. The 'processer used' bar graph is also missing. Someone mentioned earlier that I should upgrade to get the application menu back, but it did not help. I cannot browse through the different applications within LXDE now. Thank you again for any help. Quote:

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
andrewfblack: You need to decompress the image. Use the image installer.
mail_e36: This sounds weird, but uninstall Easy Debian and then reinstall it (make sure it is the one in Extras-devel). Don't delete the image file; just leave it alone. |

@doksng
Have you tried running synchroot from meamo after mounting debbie to mount the disks? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Yes, I ran synchroot in maemo and still the same. Seems to be an issue with the new upgrade
|
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
doksng, the file that is causing your problems is
/home/user/.config/lxpanel/LXDE/panels/top Try uninstalling Easy Debian, deleting that file, and then installing Easy Debian again. If that doesn't work, tap-and-hold on the side panel until you get the panel menu and remake the top panel from scratch, although that shouldn't be necessary. |

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I've just installed image 3b and I'm really enjoying having access to more apps from mainstream linux. Thanks for your great work!
Qole, I saw a screenshot from early feb showing java applets running in epiphany, I think - should that still work in image 3b? On sites with java applets I get an 'applet not loaded correctly, please reload the page' error, and on the www.java.com applet test page, I just get a grey box. I was trying using epiphany-gecko, as it seems from other posts that iceweasel and epiphany-browser still have issues? Can anyone suggest a possible cause or solution? |

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Very happy with image-v2 (using it since the start) but decided to upgrade anyway....steps below.....
1) Uninstalled version 0.9.39-1fremantle1 2) Reboot 3) Deleted image (v2) file using file manager 4) Reboot (prob not nessecary but couldn't hurt) 5) Installed version 0.9.45-1fremantle1 (from -dev thought this was going to be in testing but doesn't really matter :D) After installation.................. 10:48 : "Deb Img Install" 10:48 : "Main or Sweden Mirror" (main for me) 10:49 : Asked where I would like to install the image v3b (MyDocs for me) 10:49 : ETA ~35 min - doesn't seem to be accurate - went up to 5 hrs then back down and jumped around a bit - no real problem with that - and I know it does that - just seemed to be really wild today so just thought I would mention :) 11:26 : 'debian-m5-v3b.img.ext2.lzma' saved Testing the file to see if it is good. Extracting debian-m5-v3b.img.ext2.lzma package.... Warning about device being unresponsive - noticed even the screen on/off flicker on right hand side is slow to respond - again no issue really if you know that it is going to take a while - just info for first time installers - don't think it hasn't worked or crashed and try and turn on/off (or anything else silly) at this stage ;) 12:13 All has gone well! Opened up LXDE, tested Oo etc all works fine also tested from icon, everything fine. Will do some more installing of apps etc today, any problems I will let you know, again really easy to install and completely hassle free :D |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
An update: I was able to resolve the problem only be completely uninstalling everything related to Easy Debian and then reinstalling it again. It was time consuming, but everything seems fine now.
Thanks, Quote:

Noticed that with the previous installer, if you download the image file manually and put in on the phone and run "deb img install", it installs directly and recognizes the image file on the drive but the new installer would still connect to the internet before it accepts the image file. If there is no internet connection available the installation fails even though the image file is on the phone. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
As far as I know, Java should work with 3b, in both Ephiphany-gecko and Iceweasel. The first time you use it, it might take quite a long time to initialize. If you get the grey box, let it sit for a few minutes to see if you get the netx dialog asking you where to put the temporary files.

Help please |

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Hello everyone,
I am semi new to Easy Debian, and I am trying to install a simple Linux command-line only program called TcpXtract within Easy Debian. I run "sudo apt-get install tcpxtract". Apt-get does find the program in the repositories, and seems to install it, but also provides the following message at the end: ldconfig: /usr/lib/libpulsecommon-0.9.15.so is not a symbolic link The program (tcpxtract) seems to run though. Can someone provide any thoughts on the meaning of the above message? Thanks! |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Qole, which version of the easy-debian scripts should i install, the version in Extras Testing or the newer version in Extras Development?

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Please download the Extras-devel version. You know where to post if it all goes wrong ;)

Any reason you have the squeeze repositories disabled in the 3b image? Puzzling behaviour of Abiword, when moving vertically via up / down arrow on auto-repeat... vertical bars are left behind on the screen -- they go away upon a screen refresh. Occurs with both debbie and lxde. Thanks again for all the wonderful work! --denis |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I made a ubuntu lucid alfa version.
This is very very alfa. Openoffice 3.2 work, but the apt-get command is very broken, luckily the synaptic work well. I havn't tried to get the sound to work. If someone want to try I have a link for downloading, but remember this is VERY ALFA and unstable so it's just for people like me that like to test new things and not afraid to reinstall firmware etc. bz-version: http://www.filehosting.org/file/deta...5.img.ext2.bz2 lzma-version: http://www.filehosting.org/file/deta....img.ext2.lzma |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I was wondering if someone could post a "must have" list of packages to download. I've tried to browse them but ther are so many and I'm not a linux apps specialist. I've downloaded claws mail for starters but that is it.

Apropos zim: I like to run it through debbie so that I don't have to launch LXDE for it, but I found some glitches which I can only avoid by running it as "sudo debian su -c zim - user". With debbie, user does not get initialized properly - qole: do you have an idea why? To those interested in using zim, I recommend the version from squeeze! And this is my application item to start from the Maemo desktop: Code:

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Hey guys, i have a silly problem with openoffice, i opened Styles and Formatting and now i can't get out of that menu.. even if i close the openoffice and run it again, when i open a document, the menu pops out again. Would need ESC key or something. Is there no other solution than reinstalling it? that would be odd i guess..
