Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Im just curious - lets say we have android running on our N900s ... and a new version emerges ... how easy or hard do you think its gonna be to upgrade to it?

dj_steve 2010-06-04 09:50

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

realistivly not to hard google dont tend to change much in the really low level code that often

http://newsycat.com/android/n900/zIm...cnames-fanoush

Applied patch from kernel-power (mmcnames-fanoush.diff) and remove all Android USB stuff. Still need more testing. (it seems works, but who knows...)

Update: bricks device, file removed.

whats going on with wifi? is there some kind of error or something when scanning?

dj_steve 2010-06-05 09:38

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

it wont create the socket file (well actually it does but android refuses to acknowledge its their - i can scan networks by hand using wpa_cli but not through the android os

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

OK MAJOR SERIOUS HUGE UPDATE :

sorry for the lack of updates recently been bit busy. but i now have something worth talking abotu to mention - I HAVE WORKING WIFI

albeit ive gone back to donut temporarily while i wait for froyo, just going to try and get battery reporting going and then ill do a video upload to youtube and up the rootfs :)

DaSilva 2010-06-05 11:17

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Does that mean you can also use the Google Apps and install applications from the market?

dj_steve 2010-06-05 11:18

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

havent even tried that yet - last time i did it didnt work (0on the n8x0) but since the n900 has a equal cpu to the archos tablets i thinks ill give it ago again once my new donut build works :)

should also mention that overclocking seems to work on n900 nitdroid too by echoing the appropriate options into certain files (not sayign which as i dont want users bricking devices using it on a dev os

Can we dual boot Maemo and Android?

dj_steve 2010-06-05 11:19

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

not as yet, i know e-yes is working on a kernel to do dual boot though

fieryriver 2010-06-05 11:25

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

this is really good news. i dont know if i understoood right? wifi is working on donut not eclair right? Youre doing an amazing job steve

dj_steve 2010-06-05 11:27

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

yep ive gone backwards to donut 1.6r2 temporarily and wifi loads up perfectly. took me a reboto to get it to get an ip but i reckon that was my fault as i picked the wrong wifi network first and canceled login halfway.

also fixing the battery monitoring so it should at least display the battery level if not that its charging.

google changed alot of apis from 1.6 to 2.x so i know more of the code in donut so its easier to persuade it to work hence why its always my fallback/testing version

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

@dj_steve
http://blog.linuxconsulting.ro/2010/...o-android.html

useful link for wifi.
at least ap search is working in eclair (after permissions/awext changes), but wifimanager still complains about "search failed". need more investigations on wext/awext patches.

dj_steve 2010-06-05 12:36

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

yep indeed e-yes, donut detects wifi fine so the actual driver itself/wpa_supplicant obviously works, just eclair being a pain

http://newsycat.com/android/n900/zIm...49766c393111a5
(suffix in file == md5sum)

New kernel. Dualboot works fine.
Problem was in mmc dev. names, ext. card now is mmc1, so change your /etc/bootmenu.d/android item accordingly.

No worries e-yes. Languages are just tools. As long as the steps are clear (install/copy/rename/change/delete etc...)

We are all geeks in the end, and talk to computers :D

EDIT
Flattered by two thanks
Go ahead e-yes; talk to us in 0's and 1's

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

@dj_steve will this, in the end when stable and easy to install for noobs like me, be merged with titans kernel so we will still be able to oc? And in the near future we will also be able to get usb hosting working would it be possible to get all this into one kernel?

Wouldn't like to have to choose between the kenels. I want it all yes yes yes :D

God job dj_steve and e-yes ;)

dj_steve 2010-06-05 20:11

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Very fast with the n900 overclock esp!

Would it be impossible to set the n900 as a wifi router and connect to it for temporary internet connection for app's on the go?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

hmmm... version 1.6

does that mean 2.1 is a no-go for N900?
