VERY interesting indeed.

So now there is super high possibility that the leaked fw is the HK version.

And it was leaked just after the HK release was made. However we don't know what the intentions of the leaker are. They could have seen the HK release and changed the version number to match to make it look like it's just the same version.

I realise this sounds alarmist and hopefully I'm wrong, but you just can't be sure when we have no idea where it came from.

As far as I understand the leak doesn't have chinese language, therefore can't be the HK version.

I mean honestly.. if you're a Nokia employee and you want to "get back" at the company, or "support open source!", or whatever misguided ideological philosophy this guy was operating under - wouldn't you release the latest build? Why a month old one? ;)

Yep, impeccable logic, but unlikely. I'm willing to bet $100 that this firmware was not maliciously manipulated by a disgruntled Nokia employee and that no proof of same emerges within the next five years. If you would like to take the other side of the bet, email me at geneven@rocketmail.com and we can make the wager!

I hope the video framerate is fixed. Videos stutter more than with PR1.1 and there is a weird pause when pressing the record button that you can SEE at the beginning of your video. I was hoping the video would record AFTER the pause.....but no. I can't wait for the official release because I like the improvements. Oh, also, the thumbnails in the media player update each time you watch a video so now you can see where you left off in a movie before clicking on it. Nice, yet confusing at first, couldnt find Transformers 2 since I didnt see the usual thumbnail.....

I LOVE being able to lower the volume in the browser....no more emergency CTRL+Backspace+Volume Key combos and long pressing keys to get the same result as the Function Arrow+Key is a welcomed addition. The Ovi Maps GPS lock is the fastest that I have seen on any GPS device.

This is completely missing the point, I would happily double that wager, chances are it is malware free and I could get by losing 200$ but I don't know it is safe. If I claim it is safe and you believe some random idiot like me on a forum then you are asking for trouble.

I personally would happily try this firmware as my N900 is a second phone for me but I dont feel the need, I know the official release will come when it's ready. I expect I could upgrade to the final release if I did so but I will not try to convince anyone else to do so, they should weigh up the risks/benefits themselves and act accordingly.

I just hope when they do so that they think about which advice they should trust and don't blame anyone but themselves if it goes wrong.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Warnings are great because it transfers liability to the user of such warning riddled software/products and NOT the originator of the same. It will be the fault of every person that installed PR1.2L if any loss occurs with their N900 that can be attributed to this software. I took the $600 risk and flashed it and I am a happy risk taker right now but looking at how I could have damaged my device beyond repair (that is possible) I could have been an angry risk taker crying in the corner and whipping out my N82 while getting the courage to explain to my wife that I wasted money by impatience.

We can heed a warning or neglect it, just know we can't ever say we werent warned and it is no ones fault but ours. We must ask ourself if we are able to live with the potentially negative consquences and without a proper warning, we wouldnt know that there could be anything negative about installing this or any other software.

Thanks to all that gave warning. I jumped the gun before the warning and I am glad everything worked out for me but no matter how much I enjoy this new firmware leak, it would have been smarter for me to wait on Nokia and let them carry the $600 update liabiity with an official release.

Perhaps someone should moderate our new stolen goods for sale thread then too. :)

Perhaps. It's also possible that Nokia needed some version of PR 1.2 to put on the HK for that release while they continue work on PR 1.2. (and once they release it, HK users will also have to update).

Ah but here is the rub...

I'm sure it is virgin. However with all this discussion so goes demand.

If little Billy went to that site he would now be greeted with:

还有, 我们的系统也会定期删除一些"不太健康"的文件, 请到怎么样保持我的账户一直处在健康状态?查看详情.

I'm thinkin' 404 means the same in Chinese and I'm also thinkin' Nokia has people who can translate "Cease and Desist" into Chinese as well. :p

So now little Billy thinks to himself:

Why I know what to do. Google is my friend. I'll find torrents o' plenty and all the kids in school will think I'm keen!!!

Who will verify for little Billy that all the uploads that are now out there are sensamilla too?

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Critical PR1.2L Bugs:

Cannot answer a call while using Ovi Maps. UI becomes unresponsive and the call is missed.

Unreliable Gtalk Video Chat. Rarely connects both parties video and audio. Mostly on PC side. Maybe the PC client needs an update. To much "Can you see me now?" it should just work.

If a call is received from the home screen and hung up by the N900, the UI will NOT go back to the home screen. It will go to a random app like the wb or the task manager.

Can anyone with PR1.2L reproduce these?

Most important to me is the Unable to answer calls during Ovi Maps.

yea... i'm gonna wait for the official release since it's had reported problems with some devices so far.

As well, I got accepted into the OviSuite 2.2 Beta, so i'll see how it works with N900.

are you sure you could receive calls when using Ovi maps prior to PR1.2 in the same sircumstances?
Just tested:
-device receives mobile calls with Maps on Wifi and sattelite lock (which it gets really quick since the upgrade)
-device does not receive calls same as above but with 2.5g dataconnection
-device DOES receive calls same as above but with 3g dataconnection

Conclusion:

this is not a 1.2 bug but a technicall limitation of Edge 2.5G dataconnections.
I know because I got frustrated by not receiving calls due to this very issue months ago.

Apparently I have the perfect leaked PR 1.2 since I can answer and make a call while using Ovi Maps. With wifi, 3G and 2G. No bugs of any kind so far. Salute to Nokia!

I can receive the calls, I just cant answer them due to the UI becoming unresponsive. I can see who is calling yet when I click answer nothing happens, when I click the screen, nothing happens. The same thing used to happen on PR1.1 when playing Quake 3.

It appears, atleast on my N900 that Maps has taken a higher priority on top of Calls.

Who knows why this happens, oh well, thanks for trying it.
You are correct about 2.5G, you need 3G or better to have simultaneous voice and data. 2G only supports one or the other at a time.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

The great thing about this leaked is, now you can set SMS only to mobile contacts, so for SMS blasting, no more prompting you to choose mobile or home contacts.
Would be great if they can assign primary mobile contact. For those who carry more than 1 lines, we can't remember which is the primary line.

Facebook Chat Account is now built in (using same concept as previous Jabber), but problem is, have to merge everything AGAIN....
Still no MSN, Yahoo, etc built in. If future, MSN or LIVE is built in, we need to merge again, unless it can intelligently detect those 3rd party plugins account settings (similar email/account id).

Still NO contacts grouping, NO rigntone assignment to individual contacts/groups.
No options to keep conversations/sms into some folder (e.g. Forwarded SMS - Jokes, Greetings, etc which you can keep into specific folder to be re-use next time).
Still only have 2 profiles, General and Silent and very/extremely simple profile.

Maps still doesn't allow saving of locations/POI...

What else?

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

using PR1.2 my email takes about 3 to 4 times longer to check. No reboots yet. In the text fields of large web pages that have a lot to render I have to tap the keys really fast otherwise it switches to symbols(okcupid's website). My battery went from full to empty in about 4 hours but I think that may have had something to do with the wifi search being in 10 minute intervals and the fact that I was browsing a lot AND hitting the check email button every 5 minutes.

About the first point it seems they have introduced 2 data counts in the system (domestic data count and roaming data count), like we could see in Phone Section in Settings.
So I suppose that the widget will be updated to support this change.

I doubt it will be updated now, until official PR1.2 is released.

On the other hand, funny that there is built in widget for Email but not Conversations.

Now that the troll war is over, let me try for a THIRD time.
(Boy was it a mistake to merge these two PR1.2 threads.)

Can anyone please tell me or the font kerning bug has been fixed in the browser?
So when you zoom in, the spacing between text goes all funny and makes it look really messy? Sometimes even unreadable when you keep zooming about on certain pages?
This will be a major reason to upgrade to this PR1.2L straight away, since that is one of the most annoying things for me on the current firmware. :)

This is funny thing. After exploring bugzilla I noticed this bug. I would never ever had noticed it normally, but know when i read it i can spot it, but still itīs amazing and weird how different things are to people. For me this is thing that I hardly can count as bug but then again stuttering photo gallery is more important than SIP protocol bugs for me :D.

Damn. Should vote more. Btw. Has someone managed to use all votes in bugzilla?

It's fixed. The whole font rendering seems to be changed and now some discussion boards I surf a lot are almost unreadable :-/ The thing is that when font size is a bit smaller than here in T.M.O it renderes too softly and is hard to read.

Other than that the new font rendering is quite good I think :)

I doubt it, every post in this thread is of what 'bugs' it fixes and those things that are faster. NONE of it is mentioning how functionality has actually been added, much needed functionality. (in my opinion)

I still can't sync' my calendar, video calling? (with or without skype) voice navigation to make this a sat nav? An inbox and folders to store texts instead of the god awful 'conversations', a proper file manager (All the downloadalbe ones are not upto standard) changes to picture manager that defaults to camera folder first. Ring tones for contacts instead of one ring tone total. MMS support. (Yeah I know Nokia are not bothering because they are idiots)

That's why I am ditching my N900, so if the above have been fixed with 1.2 then I will keep it. I am not getting rid because it can't TV out quick enough, or go onto facebook or you tube quickly. (None of which I use)

Im failry confident that skype video calls do NOT work (for me at least) i have tried all day over wifi, i have the option there it says video call under my mates name, i call him he picks up i can see my video but that is it. He said when i call it just comes up as i normal call not a video call nor the option to see my video. And he cannot video call me same thing his call just comes up as normal call.
