Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Just thought I'd share my experience with Samsung Galaxy Note (I) here since it involves both N900 and Note:
Not that long ago, a friend of mine wanted me to share a large file with him. It was too large for Bluetooth and I try not to connect the USB cabel to my N900 (I want it to last longer), so the obvious solution was to take my 32GB MicroSD out and put it in his Galaxy Note. Guess what happened, Note didn't see anything on the card, just a DCIM folder. A PC we put it in couldn't see anything either and the N900 as well. So, long story short, Note (unmodded, with stock ROM) formatted my card without asking. Isn't it nice when a device/operating system thinks it knows just right what you want to do? PS: I was able to recover all the data in some form, but it was real pain in the a**, so let this be an example of what to be aware of. |

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
That's really weird.
This hasn't happened to me before, and I hope it never does. However, thanks for the heads up +1 all around |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Happened to me first time I used an Android device, while inserting the micro sd card from my N900 inside it. In my case, I think it was due to me not unmounting the card before pulling it out of the Android.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Is there something similar to the N900's "Find duplicate contacts" and "Merge contacts" for Android/Note 2? What's the best contact management tool that you use? Thanks!
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
The standard Android contact application has merge. As far as I remember, similar contacts are presented to the user for optional merging. At least this is what I get for different contacts for same person, coming from social networks.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Well, there is an option for merging contacts from phone, google and samsung but not like the one on the N900. Anyway, I already got it sorted through a PC. Thanks!

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Hi Folks! Nice to see some familiar names! In regards to messing up sd card it happened to me once when I tried to upload an ubuntu.img, file that I had on my N900's sd card, to my nook (it had JB os on it).
BTW anyone playing with Moon rom on GN2 or xperiacles rom for the N7000. Both are great and getting even better! |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I currently own an HTC Flyer. While the HTC Flyer is a good device I will be replacing it with a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. I tried the Galaxy Note 8.0 at staples and from my first impressions it looks like a solid device. The reviews of the Note 8.0 seem to be positive.

Many people from maemo will say what about the keyboard? Here is your answer. Not as sleek as having it built in but a solution. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
bt keyboard cannot compare to builtin keyboard:) though its a nice utility to have:)

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Android 4.2.2 has been leaked for the Galaxy Note 8.0
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/07/15/...-wi-fi-leaked/ It offers better battery life and better performance. We can presume that this update will be available for other note devices as well. |

The Note still can't replace the N900 for me. And I feel paranoid using this phablet... I don't trust it. But it's got some things that I need so there's no escaping it. Multi-tasking is still frustrating, I feel the hardware is not maximized. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
A Galaxy note 12.2 is possibly in the works.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Ladies and gents, It's time for the third(Note lll).

Dave999, You are about one month early. Perhaps move this to your countdown thread...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Maybe they aren't releasing a Galaxy Note 3 but the long rumored Galaxy Note 12.2 with a 2560x1600 display and S-Pen.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I might buy the 12.2 for couch surfing, not the version 3 which isn't that innovative imho, at least according to rumors.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
The NOTE line gets released at the worst time I tell you.
When the OG was released, it had Android 2.3 where Android 4.0 was available on the Gnex. And its guts are more powerful too, sadder was the fact the update took a LONG time. The next year the NOTE II was released with 4.1, and 4.2 was available shortly after... like previously which took Samsung many months to roll out the decimal update. Fast-forward two years, the NOTE 3 is about to debut and it will certainly come with 4.3 However, in the same period Android will make a generation leap to version 5.0. And again the NOTE 3 will probably be more powerful and feature-packed than the Nexus 4/Moto X |

I'm choosing between these two(sony&Samsung) since ubuntu won't be built, sailfish can't compete in the high end and Tizen is in hiding. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
If the rumors are reasonably close I could see getting GN3.
2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor 3GB Ram 5.7-5.99 inch screen (Although I hope it is as wide as GN1 which was ideal for me) Also 13 megapixel camera Is this it? http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/s...pecs-and-price |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Double sim, both online, would be great...

If they launch it a little earlier, the time to update would be shortened as Samsung will put attention to the cause to keep its (future)customers happy. If they launch it a little later, Samsung can roll out the phone with the latest and greatest iteration. To update an Android version, Samsung takes a looooong time. They blame the carriers but that's bullsh I tell you: >Plug your NOTE into a PC and load up Kies.... "No Updates" Nothing to do with the carrier here, I rest my case. To me the NOTE is the best device. I'm kind of over "Mobile Linux"... I have less and less time to devote to such hobbies. My N900 is lost in the house, collecting dust. I see the point of "having an ecosystem" and a device with "community support" as well as "third-party support". SONY is the only one who I can see that can better Samsung, but I doubt that. Firstly, they're going overboard with the size. The N2 was great, but I wouldn't mind a tad smaller (5.2in ?). SONY doesn't have Pen support, or if they do it doesn't have its own Silo. S Pen is great size and slots in neatly. SONY wins hands-down in software but Samsung isn't far behind. Samsung has Multi-Window which puts them ahead again. Samsung goes All-Out with the Specs, SONY only does commendable. HTC can defeat the NOTE, but they won't. I saw the future and came back, they won't. They always stuff something up whether its a tricky S-OFF, low QC issues, dumb button preference (HTC ONE --WTF?!?!), and gimmicky approach (HTC Home, Ultrapixel, etc). The only thing I want from a NOTE 3 is: - a N2 - a FUKING KICKSTAND - greater attraction to devs (open source Multi-Window plz) - Black, premium colour / better feel - updated specs - Don't pull a HTC/F** UPS (seriously 2 buttons???) - FRONT - STEREO - LOUD - SPEAKERS ##_not_asking_4_much |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I think Sony beats Samsung on design lately...
And was pleasantly surprised by LG yesterday. The new back button seems like a nice move. I could see myself with that as my next device if Samsung and Sony don't bring their A-Game to Berlin. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
While looking for info about note lll I realized samsung's latest mistake. The latest leaks about Note lll talks about a 5,6ich screen. While Samsung also has galaxy mega, that device can't handle the competition form Z ultra and HTC's big foot. Galaxy note must have a screen closer to 6 than 5.5 to keep the battle with Ultra Z in Samsung's favor.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
No way man.
Shaved bezels + 5 inch is the sweet spot for many. I have large hands, and one-handed use isn't important to me, as long as its pocketable. Hence, for me something like 5.2in is the sweet spot but I could go as far as 5.7inch I think (depending largely on the phones total size). Just because Sammy doesn't blow dimensions out of the water doesn't make it an uncompetitive/bad product. If anything its better, because sometimes you have to be somewhat sensible. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung doesn't blow dimensions out of the water? I find this statement obviously wrong.
Sweet spots change all the time. In fact the sweet spot can be defined as the average of the screen sizes of the desireable brands' flagships. Remember how the streak looked like 3 years ago? Like a mutated monstrosity. Now 5 inch is the norm. I'm can see it every day. People who found the omnia hd (3.7) huge now carry 5 inch phones. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
^ Lol phone's were much thicker then so it wasn't possible to have it such large sizes because of the bulk.
The streak is still a monster. I compared it hand to hand with the NOTE, and its larger and feels more awkward in the pocket. Unless phones become flexible, or are able to fold in two (and remain slim)... I don't think we can go much larger. The hand problem is not it. People have adapted to the iPad and using these Superphones with two hands. The problem is portability. How do you carry it when you don't use/hold it? A purse is a good solution... but what about +50% of the other population = men. We still need them to fit in our front/back pockets of our jeans. We're not gonna start using purses. I rather die. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I'd like a 5", double-display clamshell :)

I did the calculations and comparisons for you convenience !!!!!!1! NOTE: 146.9 x 83.0 x 9.7 mm NOTE 2: 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm NOTE 3: 147.5 x 76.0 x 8.9 mm -> 5.7in screen vs SGS 4: 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm -> 5.0in screen Difference: 10.9 x 6.2 x 1.0 mm -> Yeah, I know which one I'm going for!!! |
