You can do the same for AT&T. Got mine for free too.

hi..i'm thinking of getting an N9, may i please know whether is it possible for the Nokia N9 to connect to a wifi network in a school or uni where you'll need a username and password to login to use?
if i'm not mistaken it's PEAP+MSCHAPv2..

I have no idea about that, but I know it supports both ad-hoc and infrastructure wireless networks with WEP, WPA and WPA2 authentication as I have tested all these three.

I connect to my universities wifi often.. which is peap+mschapv2. works fine. all you have to remember is for it to work go into advanced settings (of the appropriate network) and put in a manual username. (until you put in a manual username it doesn't work)

Again problem with N9's calendar. DST ended on Sunday and now some of the calendar entries synced from Outlook to N9 (via bluetooth) have wrong time. Outlook shows correct starting time for them (e.g. 12:00) but in N9 starting time is 1 hour earlier (e.g. 11:00). This happens with calendar invitations got from other people, though not with all of them

Timezones are OK in both N9 and Outlook/PC. Deleting calendar from N9 and re-syncing does not help.

Anybody seen similar problems? I have seen something similar happening with my E71 & Nokia Suite in past, but not to this extend (happened for one or two invitations).

Ok..my N9 is pretty much F**ed up and is not booting after installing the foursquare and some other applications. It turns on and shows Nokia Logo Only.. on a flat black screen.

I did some reading and came to know that flashing may solve the problem... but i think the OneClickFlasher is not available for N9 yet, need to take it Nokia Care.

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

Hi,

I have my N9 for about a week now, and overall it's awesome. Some questions/nitpicks however:
  • How to turn off smilies in messages? Does the workaround from https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7127 work?
  • How to add more "accented" characters to the vkb layout/create a new layout? It appears that I need to edit an XML file, but the whole picture is sketchy for me. Any pointers are welcome.
  • I was about to ask how to set a custom song as a ringtone, because it takes too f***ing long time for the music to show in ringtones selection.
  • Pinch zoom for camera would be nice

Also, is it possible to reformat the user data partition (ie. the data accessible via USB, assuming it is a separate partition) as ext? And if yes, is it a terribly stupid idea to do so? Not being able to access it from windows is something I'm not concerned about.

Muhahaa, got it working. But not via bluetooth, but using Nokia Suite... :)

Apparently older version of Ovi Suite had still support for N9 and by first installing it, connecting N9 and then updating to latest Nokia Suite 3.2 (Beta) the calendar sync works perfectly. No more wrong time in calendar items.

Instructions for getting N9 to work with Nokia Suite are here: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia...076/n9-support

See post 31. Seems that also at least SMS and photo sync works OK.

I have very bad experience with my N9 signal reception . It happened to me many times of having to remove / put the SIM in the device to retrieve a signal . Some calls are very noisy . Having never know in the future if my connection will work or not is one of the most frustrating experiences moving anywhere. I don;t know if the problem come from my operator or from my N9 . I never have this problem with my other phones

the “feeds not updating problem” I noticed happens only when power saving is enabled

I didn't have any reception problem since nos, but I'm passing several days on Viena (Austria), and my N9 is losing signal. I don't know if it is a problem of signal or roaming issue.

Unfortunately I have had similar experiences. N9 lies on desk and after a while I try to use it. Everything looks OK, 3G data connection looks to be up. But connection don't work. Trying to reconnect data results just circle going around. Then I try to call from other phone to N9, and get "number cannot be reached". Only after reboot phone and data connecction work ok.

That have occured three times in two weeks. Oh well, it has been quite peacefull lately, how would I know if its happening even more frequently...

OK, I enabled Developer Mode to allow use of the terminal. Device appeared to install the developer modee OK, and rebooted itself as it had said it would do - but never came back up, just got an error screen sayng:

Device is Malfunctioning
You may try reflashing the software. If you are unable to do so, or the problem persists after flashing please contact customer service

Am I stuffed? Or is there anything I can do?

<phew> An anxious couple of hours but I'm back in action after reflashing my N9 using the OneClickFlasher from the N950 SDK.

For anyone else in the same boat, here's the article I referenced: http://coderus.wordpress.com/2011/10...d_flashing_en/

For Navifirm, mentioned in the article, I went here: http://www.symbian-toys.com/navifirm.aspx#download

Is it just me or does the phone memory load rather slow when the device is connected in MTP mode? It's particularly weird because copying files to and from the device is fast enough, but when you open folders, it takes quite a bit of time to load.

USB mass storage mode is fine, however, but I don't like connecting in this mode since I'd have to eject before I disconnect the cable.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Developer mode is NOT necessary for having terminal access!

Just enable "Allow installations from non-Store sources" and get meego-terminal package from http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com/pool/...eego-terminal/
The same works for ssh client :)

Warning: if you install ssh-server then by all means CHANGE PASSWORD from the default one. In case you do not understand what you are doing, do not install ssh-server, and make sure, that after reboot no "sshd" process is running (ps a | grep sshd) ('netstat -lt' must not list anything on ssh port).

At least this is what I have done, no "developer mode" but happy terminal user... If only there was Copy&Paste functionality for this terminal...

Paul

Yes you can configure push email with gmail. In the schedule for the email set to "always to update" for both peak time and off-peak time. However yahoo mail has no push with N9 as the "always to update" option is missing.

Tethering is possible with the preinstalled application. It creates ad-hoc network, so no "infrastructure mode" here. It works fine for me. There are some reported problems in US, bug has been submitted.

There is still this DigiNotar certificate enabled on this device.

Do I need allow background connection ? Because I set the shedule to "always up to date " but push mail don't work . I need to refresh mail application to receive new mails

I just enable "allow background connection" and push mail works . But I dont want to enable this option , I just want to receive mail when I manually connect to Internet .
Another question : internet connection ( 3g or wifi) drops after 30secones or 1 minute if I don't use Internet . Is this normal ?

What about updates for apps.. aren`t we supposed to get notification when new version of an app is released? Even when I manually open manage applications and search for updates, it tells me the phone is up to date.. but I can see newer version in nokia store.. do I have to enable something?

does anybody know how to "enable" white LED indication for charging?
mine is not "breathing" during charging and does not light when charging is finished.
however it lights up when powering up the phone.
is it a feature or a bug?

the latter behaviour is intended when you disable background connections. It disconnects unused connections after a short inactivity period.

I've had the N9 for a couple of weeks myself in Brisbane, and I haven't found an option either. My personal thoughts are it doesn't completely replace a fully-fledged GPS, but it comes close. The Drive application (in its current form), will not allow you to reroute a driving route either.

You don't have to eject. All Windows since XP have buffering for Mass Storage 'off' by default. Check Device Manager when you're connected to the PC.
