Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
Just saw report from IDC and Nokia who was #1 / Top Mobile Phone seller worldwide merely a year and half ago... has now fallen off the top five list.
That means roughly: Samsung - 31% Apple - 15% RIM - 4.5% ZTE - 4.2% HTC - 4.1% Total ~ 59% Remainder ~ 41% shared between Nokia, Motorola, LG, SONY, Pantech, Panasonic, Dell, ASUS etc etc with 4% and less market share. That explains a lot of why HTC has made losses instead of significant gains, how Microsoft has made much smaller gains (lost money) and how Nokia didn't drop out as badly as expected (found money). And while the entire industry grew about 30-50%, this growth was split between Samsung and Apple. Scraps were left to ZTE, RIM and LG. The rest of the companies lost share. We need other platforms and OEMs to win market before this turns into a mono or duopoly. |

Welcome to a new week!
Let's see, uhm... Yeah, graphs. Monday's mostly over in the Helsinki Stock Exchange... Today wasn't a particularly good day in OMXH. All numbers in Euros, day first, then week, and finally year to put it all into perrrrscheee-pecktuhv! http://bors.e24.no/e24/images/chart/...3eb5619342.png http://bors.e24.no/e24/images/chart/...f98e99e9d0.png http://bors.e24.no/e24/images/chart/...c27f1c6b2a.png |

Volt already listed out the stocks - there's no stock trading due to flooding on Wall Street in NYC - and it doesn't seem like the Windows Phone 8 event has helped out Nokia. But... I will have to say that my eyes really likes the grey Lumia 920 but for the price, I might go with the Nexus 4 or see what Jolla has... or might even go BB10. I'm overdue an update. |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
the grey lumia 920 is like those girls you have a one-night stand with; they look nice but the next morning you realize oh s*it...
it looks nice in pics but on hand it is pretty boring and gets stale in a day or two... My 2 cents... |

Besides, they are only regurgitating status quoi: Samsung is number one. It's the dynamics, the subtle changes that are of interest and of importance, even though they seem insignificant to an ignorant eye. WP8 is such a change. The demise of HTC, SE and Motorola is also such a change, overshadowed by the seemingly success of Samsung and Android. It's the downfall of HTC et al that is significant, the success of Samsung is merely a bi product. |

I wonder how stocks will be doing (had done yesterday, release day), now that Windows Phone 8 is officially released and they had their big show with Nokia as Microsoft's favorite partner? Hmmm? |

To switch the keyboard on WP8 you need to restart the phone.Which is totally ridiculous. I'm waiting for more usability issues to pop up

Been out. I'm not Lumiaman! Nokia stocks are a very long play that might not ever pay up like I'd rather it would. Still interesting to see the peaks and valleys in their stock. Who knows, might rally when we least expect it. |

The one main thing that annoys me of the Lumia 920 is the LCD screen...It isn't AMOLED so the bezel and the screen have a poor contrast... |

I mean power off the LCD and the contrast between the lighter shade of black of the switched off LCD doesn't contrast as well as an AMOLED screen would... Not a point about the respective screen qualities per se but the hardware semblance... |

Windows 8 boost:
http://bors.e24.no/e24/images/chart/...67af694d9d.png Still a bit up to 2.18 for whoever bought in that area. But I bet we're going up there soon. Until the next news from Nokia. http://bors.e24.no/e24/images/chart/...e792c5ed8a.png |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
NOKIA is going nowhere. I am in for a long haul.
|
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
Nokia is a great buy for a few weeks perspective. two weeks from now it will be around 2,5. the possible trouble happens when reports reaching market and its to early to tell how lumia 920 will sell.

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
Now, now. It's Windows 8. Still Windows 8. How much of a boost could you possibly expect? :p
On a more serious note... It's only Windows 8. It's not like my coworker can get his hands on the Lumia 920 yet. Sales and reviews should have a more direct hit than Microsoft's lackluster product powerpoints. The boost didn't even last long before variation took it half way down again... Nokia'll still need a miracle before we see anything big. http://bors.e24.no/e24/images/chart/...72b28a9a5a.png |

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
Nokia laid off the Maemo people, I don't think they have the people for new linux adventures amongst their 100k of symbian centric employees.

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
Yes, a real shame.
However I just saw my first Lumia advert on UKTV. Oh dear .... did it sound lame. Not quite as lame as the Surface advert but lame just the same. Hope springs eternal for a superb and completely open Linux device, I don't take my N900 out now in case I break it. rgds |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
On the other hand, I just saw something that redeemed Nokia products a bit. Although they're all-capasitive now:
at a Lu~ 920 demo they used the screen with regular leather gloves *thumbsup*. Lack of glove support is one of my primary turnoffs with capasitive screens. |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
The lack of a stylus kills it for me (amongst other things), the Galaxy Note stylus is passable but not a patch on being able to use fingernails on the N900.

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
There's a distinct lack of products with fingernail support these days. Unless you go for no-brand with old resistive stock. I really want hybrid screens, but I guess it's hard to combine gorilla glass and pressure sensitivity.
