So what? I like Sailfish better than Plasma (I'm an ex-KDE user btw! I did love KDE up until 4.11, after that I got tired of their directions) so I will wait as long as needed. I'd rather have a great Sailfish experience with a delay then.

Is is supposed to be bad? Or am I missing something?

I'm a happy Plasma 5 user on my laptop and a happy SailfishOS user on my phone, so I'll be glad that there's something new to play with until SailfishOS 2.0 comes out :)

Still don't get what's the significance here. Both Plasma 5 and SailfishOS have periodical releases, so they may or may not overlap.

because in 2014 - 2015 this speakers / sound configuration seems to remain an item that can be neglected from a specs list at will http://jolla.com/tablet resulting in screeching noises all around my be teenagers playing music from tablets at max volume sounding wors than my N900 :D

Speakers seem to aim for portret listening. So this means stereo sound in video's will be heard correctly when tablet is hold in portret.

My second hand el cheapo 2012 Kindle Fire has double speakers configured for landscape listening. I like that more.

In any case, for enjoying stereo sound during games like Pinball Arcade the Jolla tablet will be preferable. :p
I believe flappy bird only has mono sound :D

A stretch goal for 4 speakers, one on each edge and self adjusting stereo placement would have received my support.

The actual filing with the FCC is here:
https://fccid.io/2AEZWJT-1501

The User Manual TabletMonkeys posted was filed by Jolla :o.

I'm guessing they used a stock manual to rush through the filing.

I wondered about the speaker configuration too.. It does not make too much sense: For movie watching, you want the landscape orientation. I don't know of applications where a portrait stereo configuration is important, but... if not 4 speakers, three should do the trick, routing audio depending on orientation: in landscape mode you mute one of the short side speakers, if the tablet orientation is upside down, you can swap the left-right channels...

Looks like there is some empty space for some (big) component above the CPU/RAM. Any idea what it might be for ? The 3G modem or maybe the tablet they sent for testing was without the display interface conversion daughterboard ?

FWIW, the metadata on the internal photo pdf dates back to 12th June, ie. 6 weeks before the developer devices were built.

Whats your opinion on "no charger included"?
I kind of like it as i would definately not need one.

It's fine with me too, as I already have way too many USB wall-warts lying around. :) (Also, I suspect it helps Jolla avoid having to provide different contents to customers with different power socket standards...)

I may just pick up that external power bank though; I've been pushing the battery limits on a number of my portable devices lately, and I don't really trust my car charger all that much.

I also have to admit that I love seeing the box covered with code. :) (And it's also a perfect spiral for this month's photo competition. ;) )

Same here, I'm actually using one of my old N900 charger and both N9 and Jolla chargers are still unused in their boxes... :)

No problem for me. I personally do everything to avoid AC adapters. I have Installed some solar chargers in my apartment on the balcony but also a small solar connected to powerbank on one window. Why use curtain in the windows? Use solar chargers + powebanks instead :D

No problem here either... in addition to the chargers I already have, most bigger devices (PS3, laptops, ...) with a USB port come with it powered, so it's actually difficult to miss that unless you don't have the cable, which is a USB one so it's extremely common, unlike Apple's ;-)

Sniff, Jolla has spoiled my unboxing experience with their open communication model

This is funny: the sales box has been put through rigorous drop and durability testing. I'd love to work in this testing department.

Of course I would never leak benchmark results of the Jolla tablet's rigorous drop and durability testing.
Because it's part of the user's joy to find out about this the next coming months. ;)

Good policy about the charger not included - my stock of Nokia USB chargers will start to increase in value!

Yes, that seems to be the price for it.
It does not say where you can order it though... I assume mail order from the Jolla Shop probably.

According this news they say that this information comes straight from Jolla but there is no reference?

In Finland we usually show prices including tax.

It says that you could possibly pre-order Jolla Tablet already next week. Delivery would be end of August after indiegogo orders.

It might take a while!
Jollas Phone charger outputs 1A to charge an 2100mah Batt.

To charge Tablets it is common to use 2A.
Jolla will sport a 4300mah battery.

According that mobiili.fi news - they(Jolla) don't yet know the platform where orders are made. Information coming next week.

For me it sounds little bit strange as they already have store in place -> shop.jolla.com. Why not use that?

Even if they did use shop.jolla.com, it would need to be expanded a bit, as it isn't currently set up to reach customers in areas where the tablet will be sold. (Such as, say, the entire western hemisphere of this planet. ;) )

On the back of the tablet it states the input as 2A, so you might be better off getting a bigger one

I say it's not a problem. I have chargers for my Nexus 9 and my Nexus 7 (2013) that I never have touched. Although most will say that the "greener" is just marketing, if you're geek enough you probably have a 2.1A charger laying around. I have 3.

Can't wait.

Any recommendation for Jolla tablet wireless keyboard and mouse?

jalyst 2015-08-14 14:43

Re: Jolla tablet countup to delivery[Now With Poll]

For portable mouse & keyb, I'm quite fond of the Logitech K811 (switch between 3 paired devices on-the-fly) & T630 (touch mouse, switch between 2 devices on-the-fly).
K811 also has pretty decent tactile feedback for such a portable keyb (there are far more portable ones), & has backlit keys, amongst other features it & T630 have.

We should prolly start a Jolla Tablet Accessories/Peripherals thread soon... :)

I've been leaning towards Logitech bluetooth keyboards as well lately, though I haven't really tested them in-depth myself. Here's an interesting (and fairly recent) article reviewing a selection of bluetooth keyboards though, and they also place the K810 / K811 at the top of their list:

thanks for the input

logitech has made the lastest keyboard for tablet K480,

jalyst 2015-08-14 16:33

Re: Jolla tablet countup to delivery[Now With Poll]

Yeah it's okay, not in the same league as the K810/1 IMHO, different price segment, the groove for propping-up Tablets/Smartphones is handy though.
Anyway if you want to discuss further, then you should prolly start a dedicated thread for "Accessories/Peripherals", or for "Portable Mice/Keyboards".

Re: Jolla tablet countup to delivery[Now With Poll]

Most interesting in Simo's overview is this:

In the end, interviewer asks about information security, and Jouni first tells the operating system has fully open source OS. [This is an important part, and not seen yet on Sailfish OS earlier versions, so I try to translate the answer in Finnish from word to word]:

Quote:

Before anything else, the information security starts from that this is fully open source operating system, and via that anyone can review it and verify it, and hence, here's nothing to hide. And hence it's built through transparency, the information security, and that is perhaps the simplest explanation at this point to that.
[to the question about information security]

Note: The above translation of spoken words has not been checked by Jouni Mikkonen. It's how I heard it in Finnish, listening to the interview video published by Kauppalehti. The finnish words used for fully open source operating system on the video are "täysin avoimen lähdekoodin käyttöjärjestelmä"

Not sure if we can really take much from that, but there was this statement ~2.5mth ago:

One continued point to note is that Sailfish is not fully open source -- Jolla describes it as “mostly open source”, noting that certain UI components remain closed. But it does have a plan to open source more of the platform in time.

Quote:

We will come out very soon with an announcement about the scale of this open sourcing schedule

So maybe they're very near to revealing that time-line? I'll believe it when I see it. :)

Re: Jolla tablet countup to delivery[Now With Poll]

Simo's also done an excellent (very detailed) run-down of all the specs here:
http://reviewjolla.blogspot.fi/2015/...-hardware.html
Some of it will no doubt end up being "off the mark", but it's quite comprehensive.
Also a questionnaire there asking folks what they want him to cover in his review.
Be cool if folks eventually work out how to multi-boot this thing with other Linux based platforms & Win10x.
