most frequent banning reason is sending big amount of messages to contacts not synced to whatsapp or if contacts doesn't have you in phonebook

well, it's okay if you keep using old yappari account registered to other number.
but you in trouble if you will register new number, but will use old contacts database and will not sync it to your new number and not ask your contacts to add your new number to contacts.

Decided to fix my N900 after about 2 years with my N9 and I'm really surprised how awesome this thing still is... so back to being my main phone it is. I'm really pleased with Yappari as well. Very nice to have this on the N900, so thanks a lot to the previous and current developers!

And to get to the main point I think I found a little bug. When I disable Settings/Text Input/Auto-capitalisation in the N900 settings, text input in Yappari seems to be in caps lock all the time while it's working fine everywhere else. I actually have to hold the shift key to write small letters in Yappari (and nope double-tapping the shift key doesn't make a difference).

While I re-enabled Auto-capitalisation on the N900 again so I don't risk all my friends on whatsapp attempting to hit me with a chair on the head for writing in caps lock, I'd love to be able to turn off that annoying thing again.

Still, when I start Yappari, I get "Connecting", and after couple seconds "Connection closed by server." It tries to connect repeatedly, but fails.

I upgraded to the latest Yappari 2.0.10 Build 5210
With the older version I got blocked, at least that was the error message when I tried to enter my phone number. I was able to lend an old Samsung from a friend, upgrade the official client, and send a message to Whatsapp, asking them to unblock me. Maybe there was something wrong with the message I sent, as it seems I was never unblocked.

Should I have held on to my friends old phone, trying to make the connection with that first, and only when I got that connected, switch to N900? Now I just sent the message, gave the phone back to my friend, waited couple days and tried with N900.

Unfortunately, I contacted them a couple of days ago, not even knowing about your message suggesting the way. I mentioned that I was using Yappari but it happens on all devices. Stupid me. And that that I'm getting a "blocked" response.

And I have no device for which an original Whatsapp is available. (Only Maemo/MeeGo devices)

/edit: maybe I should say a brother who is into IT made me a silly joke replying to the e-mail and using your way?

you just now follow whatsapp suggestion to get unblock. they're in good mood. in normal situation they will block premanently :D

I wonder, assuming that one change SIM between devices frequently, how many changes are allowed or what is the minimum time that must be used WhatsApp on a device to avoid being banned?

@marmistrz : doesn't have to be your own device. use a friend's device. afaik (coderus, etc. can correct me if i'm wrong) .. what they don't want is using one SIM/number across many devices, not using a couple of SIM cards/numbers on the same device.

I know I know, I don't do that now. But for a while I was changing between N900 and another phone(s). But not as often, about every month.

You dont have Android device but haves avaiable Nitdroid and i think that WhatsApp original on Nitdroid mustbe works, and capture the image.

I've been changing the SIM between N900 and N9 for a month and a half now. Like... 50 times? Fortunately they never banned me nor anything. But... before this I had a HTC One and it was a pain in the *** to test firmwares and stuff, because every time I'd to install WhatsApp again and recive the confirmation code, they got me on hold for hours.

Yep, read that and tried to compile the message vaguely within those lines. Maybe I put something there that was suspicious, as I cannot connect.

Should I maybe try to switch the card back to my friend's phone, and implore them again?

Maybe they sent me a reply I could receive with my friend's phone only?

What planet you from, mate? For companies like Whatsapp Inc there are 4 platforms worthy of support: iOS, Android, WP, Blackberry (and Symbian in case of Whatsapp).

They will not bother for maemo with a user base of .............. (fill your number here).

Yeah, but they should allow the unofficial apps for the unsupported platforms. I understand unofficial apps on Android might be persecuted... But on Maemo? It's insane!

They claim that I violated their terms of use... Don't know which point ;)
And they say that if they find me breaching the rules I'll be banned without a possibility of appeal.

What should I do so as not to get caught? :D

/edit: besides, I guess that while maintaining support for Whatsapp, we should find a sane alternative to Whatsapp. Some devs of unofficial apps have gotten cease and desist letters from WA, so WA on Maemo might die any day. And most people don't care if they're using WA, Telegram or whatever. As long as they can communicate

Just received an ominous message from Whatsapp: WhatsappO with [vcard] ... cant access the vcard. This could be ominous or it could be linked to renewal falling due in Sept. Any ideas or suggestions on how to respond ...?

Most people do care. Their criteria is: is it popular? Is everyone else using it? If so, they use it too.
If people just wanted to communicate, we would all be using Jabber/XMPP very likely :)
Unfortunately, all the popular ones are also the closed ones, generally. If 'open,' a few years later they get closed.

Hi there guys!

I CAN connect with the official app (so I'm not banned anymore as I was once before) but I can NOT connect using Yappari :(

According yappari.log, Yappari actually gets connected but afterwards gets "There was an IO error: Connection closed by server"

Does anyone knows if this means I'm in fact out of whatsapp through our beloved Yappari forever?

Dammit!! I fuc...ing need it for professional reasons.

PS: I have tried uninstalling the offical whatsapp while on line, uninstalling Yappari 2.10 (&rebooting) + installing Yappari 2.10 again (&rebooting) with no success at all.

@capitannemo, you need to delete official whatsapp on your device first, then register it in yappari and use it only here. you can't use it on multiple devices without loosing control.
