Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
@Lumianan, just out of interest, how exactly do you define a "live" or "dead" OS?
Oh, and please take some of your profit you've made on Nokia stocks and go down the greengrocery store to get some apostrophes. I'm sure they can spare some from their apple's. |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
@Lumiaman
Maemo has succeeded, better to be 1 of the 5 happy users than 1 lonely person telling everyone how bad it is and how it can't succeed. It must be so annoying to you that it just is, given how petty you are beginning to sound, clearly a measure of how well it is doing without you. Clearly Windows phone is not doing it for you or you wouldn't have so much to say on a Maemo forum that has nothing to do with either Nokia or Microsoft. The fact that Maemo could not rise to the same heights as Android is a direct measure of how little Nokia understood open, so you are right keeping it closed through various mechanisms clearly had its effect, best then that they are no longer part of it. rgds |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
Maemo was sooooooo closed, that is why this is Maemo forum. It was soooo closed. I think you dont understand a thing. You just said that Maemo was more closed than Android. Are you smoking?

Now, I hope we are not confusing things here. Open software is different from being open to licensing your software to multiple device manufacturers. The later was what made Microsoft and Android become respective dominators in the overall game. The later has nothing to do with open UI, and open software. |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
@Lumiaman
Even you can't be that stupid to contrive that meaning. You clearly realise to lock down a system you only need a single closed component, piece of code, license, patent etc etc whatever even if every other part is totally open. That is enough to provide a chilling effect on any specific distribution. Hence my comment about Jolla opening up its UI will easily allow it to compete with Android, something Microsoft will never be able to achieve. Closed components of Maemo has been covered sufficiently for your understanding in too many other topics so please use the search feature. However before Android, Maemo was probably the most open phone OS, crippled by being locked to Nokia specific devices, it was never intended to compete with Android. The more Open OS won that race, refer to earlier graphs. My points are solely raised in connection with Nokias stock performance or rather lack of performance. rgds |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
I think your points show little understanding of what sells and what doesnt. If Maemo was at one point so open, why it didnt sell? You still have no answer. You are still stuck with simple association of Android current dominance and that is "more" open than iOS and WP. The answer is simple and you dont get it: Android dominates because it was the first to differentiate itself from Apple by licensing their software to ton of other manufacturers and therefore allowing the greater number of devices to be produced at every price point. Apple only focused on high end, and they still control the high end by volume. The reason why Android dominates is because they were the first to copy Apple and the first to license their software to others. WP came late to game and are trying Android game but not successful as late arrivals. Nothing to do with open UI.
NOKIA stock performance has to do with missing the boat when they had to act. And the stock is rising. I have almost doubled my investment. I am waiting for $10 in spring. |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.
Let me retype to make it easier for you.
"Closed components of Maemo has been covered sufficiently EVEN for your LIMITED understanding" Clearer now? As for the rest of your meaningless ramblings they are of little value. Android differentiated itself from Apple by copying Apple? Huh? what a muppet! Android is open source, any and all manufacturers can use it as long as they comply with the open source license free of charge! With everyone able to use Android for free, what possible incentive can anyone have to follow Nokia with its Microsoft tax and lockins. Microsoft don't rule smartphone hardware the way they tried with PC's Unlucky! rgds |
