Apple seems to have a lot more riding on the iPhone than Nokia does with the ITs. Maybe that's why they put a lot more into it. Who knows, maybe Nokia will be the next NEC, maybe Apple will be the next Packard Bell. Maybe they will both continue to thrive.

I have recommended tthe iTouch to people as much as I have the tablet - depends on the person and their wants/needs.

Ultimately, I will probably leave the NIT platform over #1 and/or #2. Not because I think the NIT platform sucks, but because soon someone else will most likely offer something that gives me what the NIT gives me now, plus those two things ... and do so before the NIT solves those issues. It might be android. It might be openmoko. It might be one of the Ubuntu based MIDs. (though, I'm pretty sure it WONT be the iPhone, because I don't expect they will EVER fix #3)

Hell, it might be the E66 or E71 (depends on whether or not I can get the S60 ssh client to work nicely with the S60 vnc client I recently came across; whether or not I like the smaller screen for the E71, and/or whether or not I can find a thumb sized bluetooth keyboard that I like enough to use with the E66 ... and if the E66 can be used in landscape orientation). It would be BETTER if I could run a fully supported maemo (or some other form of unix/linux) on them (and/or an T-Mobile-USA 3G version of the E90), but they might be "good enough" on their own.

See, so the iPhone may work for you. I don't need or want 'persistant' wireless. I don't currently, nor do I want to in the future, carry a device as large as an iPhone or an IT as a phone - nor do I want a 2 year phone contract to boot. I DO want external speakers, bluetooth connectivity, and easy wireless access. I want reasonable web browsing, meaning Flash compatibility as 50% of my regular sites use Flash, like it or not. There's other things that I like about the tablet - for instance the stylus input method, for using Xournal, sketch, Numptyphysics and Mypaint. Just as I am sure the iPhone input method appeals to others.

The point is, there's a market for all these devices and what works for some may not work for others. Both continue to evolve, which is great.

I don't have a contract on either of my phones now (Samsung SCH-R410, Nokia E62 (which I'm using to evaluate switching to T-Mobile and/or AT&T)). I can have a WWAN radio in my computer and not have a 2 year contract. For example, you can do that now with the N810-WiMAX Edition. Just buy it, and don't activate the WWAN. Or, in a GSM/WCDMA situation, buy it but don't put a SIM card in it ... or buy it, and put a Pre-paid SIM card in it.

I wouldn't have that any other way. I don't do phone contracts... period. (another item on the list of reasons I wouldn't buy an iPhone)

Each has its place. I think the general GUI should be finger-navigable, and then each app may or may not need a stylus for fine detail ... and the tablet and GUI design should accommodate that flexibility.

I only care about soccer.
To stay on the matter, the weather suddenly changed to mostly sunny and I think I will go play soccer after all.
I only wish I could swap the long sleeves t-shirt I am wearing with a short one.

The reasons behind that situation have been explained numerous times. Bottom line, Nokia doesn't depend on internet tablet revenue anywhere near to the extent that Apple will depend on iPhone revenue.
