Re: N900 shipping delayed

The only thing I can say is when they ship they'd better make sure they ship enough to satisfy preorders and expected demand. A delay of a week or two could mean people who ordered in September/October are waiting until 2010 for their device.

Mmm. I can't really see that happening. At least, I really hope not. I'd think that early adopters would be the ones they'd satisfy first to avoid the lynch mobs. :p

The thing that worries me is this "select markets" stuff. The device might well ship at the end of November but experience tells me there's often a delay of weeks to months between that and it becoming available to buy everywhere.

Of course ebay sellers will love it but nobody else will.

I expect Nokia's factories to assemble N900s into warehouses in full steam while Maemo team is finalizing the firmware. If so the delay should make possible larger initial shipments.

I think this is likely and that what they're doing is basically rolling out the N900 in every market on the same date they originally planned to to roll it out in the last market, so from their perspective it's not really a "delay" as such and just an adjustment to the rollout. However sometimes common sense and the actions of large companies don't really align :)

if they needed feedback from dev's. why not plan for it instead. and if they need more time to bugfix/adjustments, Admit the planning was bad and the product isn't ready for market.

Well I never pre-ordered, though have been looking forward to it getting released.

But this way they are losing the holiday shopping window in the US at least.

mmmm....they probably did plan for it, what makes you think they didn't?

They don't need to admit it isn't ready for market, if it was ready I would have one wouldn't I?

Not every market is like the microsoft/apple one, where vista was the best OS ever and the original iphone was brilliant. ;)
