Sure, needing a piece of scotch tape on the World's sexiest phone isn't what Jony Ive intended, but here's the cheapest way to solve the famous iPhone 4 signal loss problem: The honor belongs to Fast Company, who also point out that not every iPhone is necessarily affected by the widely reported snag and advises us all to calm down a bit.

They may just laminate that side in future batches to alleviate the issue really....

Edit - Was going to post something like the above, what are the chances, lol

Also don't forget invisishield type protectors which I get anyway.

I won't defend Nokia's typical silence at all, but in this case I'd rather have that than Jobs' condescending, idiotic answer.

But hey, I'm sure he still thinks "the antenna engineering is cool".

(I'm thinking invisible shield material, but any non-conducting tape should do, right?)

I'm not terribly conductive, dry skin it seems works in my favor for once. But as it stands, there is a drop in the antenna, but not exactly in the quality.

What's weird is how I tend to almost "palm" the phone most of the time naturally, a carry over from my iPhone 3GS I guess. But the owner of the iPhone 4 is holding it differently than I tend to. I palm and hold the top part of the phone - I'm usually walking and I know it could shoot out of my hand forward that way.

But yeah. The bumper actually does avoid that. And I finally figured out why my pants that day caused a problem with the bluetooth reception. It was making contact with a rivot, that was grounded on my skin. So... I fear this is just the start of some woes.

A bumper though, or case solves that. Or... as you've listed above, cover the gap somehow.

I can hear the bar conversations now as iFanboys discover this new "feature".

"Hey baby... the rivots in my pants are transmitting bluetooth. You want to check out my radio tower?" :D

Glad to see there's a simple fix for it, but it's going to be a black eye for Apple for a while. To have missed such a common-use issue will make the heard itchy for a bit about buying iTech. I'm sure it will be long forgotten by time the iPhone 5 comes out though.

I'm willing to bet that their solution will be to offer a coupon for a free bumper to every iPhone 4 purchaser. Small price to pay for the good PR it will generate, and if there's one thing Apple knows how to do, it's PR.

You emitted bluetooth through trouser studs? Isn't that .... erm ... detrimental uhh to other equipment?

As a side note, does blue-tooth emitted too close to uhm, stuff, induce blue-uhm, equipment?

People loves predictable pattern. The market loves predictability.

Btw, seeing the iPad adoption around me... I've never seen (normal, non-geek) people reacting so positively toward a computer\mobile-related gadget as iPads in the past. It does so many things right, it ain't funny.

Interesting. I have lots of well to do friends, some of whom have iphones. I work with lots of people who could buy the thing. Not one person has an ipad. In Scotland in an apple store 3 days after launch there was lots of people trying the ipad. But the sign saying queue here for ipads had no takers. The poor girl assigned to watch over this looked really bored.

Speaking to people about ipad has yielded things like "it is a big iphone" "it costs more than my laptop and doesn't run word" and my personal fave "it doesnt have a camera (acts surprised) what is the point of the ipad"

the only apple junkies i know "might get one for xmas" but wonder when they would use it rather than their iphones or macbooks. And that is the response most people have had. Only apple think their is room between laptops and smartphones and I genuinely will be surprised if ipad is not another appletv within 2 or 3 years.

YMMV
