I love Terry Pratchett.

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
There was a time when small petty minds made sure his many-world-theory was laughed at like they've been doing since the dark ages to string theory. Do you know which musician is his son BTW? Then it made the fringe. Now it's in the center of debates. Also the possible states at any given time for any entity are near infinite but all that would collapse little egos and views based on illogical mathematics, see Godel there, and then they'll go mad and we don't want that nor people not eating. And that's just the starters. What happened to off-topic issued directives? Don't want to upset the Forum's Big Brother(s). I don't post on corporate sites, I prefer the old styled fascists if I had to choose as they hurt less people and at least are up front.
BTW Thanks bun, take care. |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
On the bright side, the nickname implies there isn't another like him. Thank god for small mercies.

Please, keep on topic.
I don't understand what's going on with the latest posts. Quantum physics? Big Brother? Fascists? |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
all of the above?

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
I notice tear is slowing down since i upgraded libwebkit-1.0-1.....Before it was super fast now started looks like micro..bad,bad!!!
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Alive, dead, or bloody furious... i get it. That's funny.
...um... it's supposed to be funny, right? oh, and tear is awesome. Two thumbs up! (see, i'm staying on topic.) btw: this is the 4th-largest thread in the forum; only 44 shy of "What do we know about Diablo?"... 43... |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Time to move to Tear 0.4 and start a new thread!
...42... Oh, I like Douglas Adams, too. |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
of course, still haven't seen an answer to "gmail crashes tear..."
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
If you use the basic html version it wont crash.
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
You weren't looking probably.
The answer was: "it crashes right where the vkb should pop out". It doesn't crash with 41128-1. I was out of town without a computer. |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Tear will also crash on gmail if it isnt set to basic html, the standard version will crash it. Have tested this several times myself.
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
tear is not slowing down-it is enclosed in a solid state fluid vacumn-the problem is the time outside the vacumn slows in response to the change in direction of the magnetic field emanating from the unit

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
There is some new bug. I haven't been able to pin it down exactly, but it seems to have something to do with text editing. hns, if you're listening, maybe you could peruse your recent changes and look for some unforeseen end conditions. Just a thought. I mention this because I started to notice this after Bundyo incorporated your stuff. Thus, I'm not sure it's related to the svn41137 upgrade.

Yes, works with his build.
P.S. Badly applied patch it seems on first sight. |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Fixed. Soon should be available in Qole's repo too.

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Yay. That build loads Gmail! Progress!
I am afraid I must report that the other Gmail error (which I will describe) still exists however... Whenever I attempt to delete a message, at the very top of the screen I get this message "Gmail Oops... the system encountered a problem (#500) - Retrying in (lists some amount of seconds) Retry now. If I reload the Gmail page that message will NOT have been deleted. This problem does not exist in MicroB... |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
I've noticed a bug in tear:
Once you open two windows, the hardware keys (fullscreen, resize) stop working. |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Repository updated.

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
@Bundyo
Because you have popup menus with their most significant entries at the bottom, try the following after the popup call: menu.emit('move-scroll', gtk.SCROLL_END) I haven't noticed any bad visual side effects when doing this. But then, I'm running in a slightly slower environment. |

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Nah, it has nothing to do with those things :) It has to do with the inability to support several windows updated with the current selected options. The options manager should correct that, but then the all windows would share the same option.
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
I typically never have more than one window open and there are times if my keyboard is closed that the fullscreen and zoom buttons wont work. Cant figure out any pattern to the behavior, but I can confirm it does happen.

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
The shortcuts are in fact actions and actions are problematic on the tablet too, I'm going to replace them.

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
interesting observation:
tyrning images of will still make use of already downloaded images, and the page will render in a snap. is it the downloading of new images thats become cpu intensive? |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Anyone else use Facebook. www.x.facebook.com
When I used it on microb, performance was decent, but it kept reporting javascript issues. Finally tried it in Tear and it works much better though some things still hava the javascript issue pop up (such as changing status or viewing people's photos). |

OTOH, Tear sure is faster at GMail than is MicroB, and you can get GMail to suggest addresses as you type without having to backspace to elicit them. |
TEAR IS AMAZING!!!
I've owned my N810 for a few days now, and already have been thoroughly fed up by microB. Installing tear has been transformational! The browser is fast, well featured, and has a great sensibility about the distribution of its features. This is hands down the BEST mobile browser that I've yet used, even in its pre-releasee state. This is the browser that nokia should have shipped with the n810. Keep up the great work! I'll keep suggestions to myself unless someone has interest in them. Tear has become my default browser, and I look forward to updates in the future! PS. I'm composing this message in Tear! :) YARR! }:^)~ Caperoo |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
This seems rather cool: https://lists.webkit.org/pipermail/w...il/007253.html
(Short version: An ARM-optimized version of some recent improvements to WebKit's JavaScript engine, improving performance on the NITs and other ARM devices.) How about whipping up a libwebkit build with this? It's supposed to be fairly stable (it's passing the WebKit regression test suite, anyway). |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
It doesn't look like a joke, that's a good start :)
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
No :). To provide some background: George Staikos (see the staikos.net domain the repository is hosted under) is one of the original KDE KHTML/KJS (which WebKit is derived from) developers, and one of the original people involved in bringing WebKit back to that platform via the Qt backend and integration. That explains the repository.

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
I just hope it can be applied on the one month old WebKit we're using :)
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
I await reports of your attempt with bated breath ... :D

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Tear is one of the best applications for maemo. It has already replaced the default webbrowser on my N810. :)
Keep up the good work! |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
ok, i just did a quick comparison between webkit 40663 and 41137, and the latter is clearly slower on the same page.
could others try the same test to see if its something broken on my end or not? just pick a random page, and try to load it in both versions. |
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
Which version of 41137? I also have a version with vfp and softfp enabled (as were the first builds, I can upload it tonight for tests (it doesn't have the GMail crash fix though). You can also test with the 770 version.
|
Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard
-3, tho i didnt notice any large diff between that and the 770 one in a earlier test.
