Clear Coat is the best i reckon. I have it on my fone for 2 months now, you wouldnt notice its on the fone. Select between Screen protector or full body protection, and also " Life Time Warranty" :D ...

It actually varies, there are quite decent low-cost protectors out there - but there are also many bad ones in the lower pricerange. If it fits the device good, can be removed easily, has a decent texture and doesn't scratch too easily, then you most likely got a good one.

This is the Qubits Hybrid Armour Soft Touch Case with Screen Protector from Amazon UK. The total cost for the case and screen protector (including shipping!) was only £3.40. It arrived two days after I ordered it.

The screen protector came with an anti-static dust cloth which worked really well for cleaning the screen prior to application. Positioning the screen protector was much easier than the DuraSec which I have on my N810 (or maybe I was just lucky).

The screen protector has a great feel (smooth but not slippery) and I don't notice any reduction in sensitivity whether using finger or stylus. It has small cutouts around all the sensors and also around the little NOKIA bezel.

Included in the price is a two-part plastic "soft touch" case. It's a semi-hard ploastic case in two parts, with a rubbery coating on the outside surfaces. The top part clips around the screen, protecting the sides of the screen and providing a raised bezel effect (but the bezel doesn't go right up to the display area so it doesn't have the problems of the N8x0 bezels). The bottom part clips around the keyboard with cutouts for all the sockets and controls.

Before I had this case I was worried about getting out the slippery N900 when walking along, in case I dropped it. The case gives much better grip and I'm not at all concerned now.

There are three minor downsides though. First, it adds a millimetre of thickness (maybe even 1.5mm) but only at the front. At the back, it doesn't make it as thick as the existing camera protruberance. Second, when you open the keyboard, the presense of the top half of the case slightly reduces the "free space for fat fingers" above the top row of keys. I don't find this a problem, but for some people it might be a slight inconvenience. Third, it makes it slightly fiddlier to deploy the kickstand.

Regards,
Roger

hello. I'm using that cover for some months. It lasts not so long as expected. The first thing to break are the cover supports.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Ok, so I got my stuff.
I added the Zcover clip to the Otterbox.
There are a few parts to the clip set.

There is a back tab that goes inside the case of the device (shown here the one from my old Zcover case for my iAudio X5):
http://www.techiem2.net/gallery2/d/800-2/P6047953.jpg
I installed this by drilling 2 holes in the appropriate places in the Otterbox out case. I installed it between the outer case and silicon inner case.

Next there is the clip that goes on the outside of the case and locks onto the tab:
http://www.techiem2.net/gallery2/d/803-2/P6047955.jpg
This is the universal connector used to connect to various Zcover clips. This fits just right with the tab installed between the 2 layers of the Otterbox.

Next is the quick release belt clip:
http://www.techiem2.net/gallery2/d/806-2/P6047957.jpg
The connector clip slides and locks into this, and can rotate once locked in. There is a button on the belt clip to release the latch so the device can be pulled out. Mine is a bit tough to unlock/lock at times, but I suspect it will loosen up a bit with time.

All together:
http://www.techiem2.net/gallery2/d/809-2/P6047958.jpg

The installation of the clip seems to have minimal interference with the Otterbox installation. You'll notice I have a decoration on my N900, I pulled the cord to the side and have it feeding out the edge of the USB cover, which doesn't seem to have interfered.
I did notice that 2 of the clips of the Otterbox on the bottom of the keyboard don't seem to have gone up quite as far as they should (I assume they are supposed to click over the edge of the keyboard like the corner clips). I assume this is from the slight difference in overall height due to the zcover tab behind the phone. However the Otterbox is still very secure and tough to remove.
http://www.techiem2.net/gallery2/d/812-2/P6047960.jpg

The full image gallery is here.

Overall thoughts:
It was fairly easy to mod the Otterbox to install the Zcover clip.
The clip does not seem to have affected the installation of the Otterbox in a significant way.

Benefits:
You get a quick release belt clip along with your Otterbox (or whatever other Zcover clip/holder you want to use).
You get a loop on top of the clip on the phone that you could attack something to.

Drawbacks:
You can't lay your N900 flat with the clip.
You can't stand your N900 straight on the kickstand with the clip because it changes the balance and causes the N900 to lean a bit to the right.
The clip adds a bit more bulk to the N900 (and to your belt, but any belt holder would do that).
The extra depth from the tab in the case prevents a "perfect" installation of the Otterbox on the phone, but this does not seem to affect the stability of the install.

Other:
I tried a couple times to get the Otterbox screen protector on and then gave up on it.
I think my room is just too dusty to get something sticky like that in place and properly sealed.
I guess I'll have to look for other screen protectors that might be easier to install, and try to install in a cleaner environment.

Tomorrow I'll be out and around a bit, so I'll see how the phone feels attached to my belt.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Another note: The phone in the belt clip stands up nicely.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I recently tried the Clarivue Anti-Glare screen protector to see how different it is from the Ultra-Clear finish.

And it's very different. In comparison, the Anti-Glare is thinner, less clingy, and a bit easier to install. It enables much more touch-screen sensitivity. It offers a dull / matt finish which provides hardly any stylus resistance. That said I put a fairly long and deep stylus scratch in it within a few hours of use. :(

The matt finish reduced screen visibility enough to be noticable. It looks like a significant drop in resolution. I had it under incandescent light, fluorescent light, and direct sunlight. The "anti-glare" gains were minimal at best - especially outdoors where it performed particularly badly under direct sun.

Overall I didn't like the Anti-Glare protector very much, and find the Ultra-Clear protector far superior. It too scratches fairly easily, but the clarity is fantastic, and I like the amount of stylus resistance that it offers.

It appears that Clarive is cutting the N900 protectors a little bit smaller which makes them somewhat less tedious to install. Trick is to give the screen a blast of compressed air immediately before lining up the Nokia logo first. :)

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Here's a few pictures of the N900 in the belt clip standing on my desk:

I usually leave it in the clip and stand it on my desk when I am sitting at my desk at work, and then clip it on to my belt when I am leaving my office.

The full sized pictures are in the gallery as before.

I just got a leather Pdair case with a belt clip. I'm happy with it so far. I use it while jogging and everywhere else too. My only fear is that it will wear out fast. If so, Otter case here I come.

I'm still on my own epic search for the right case. I put an as-yet-unanswered post at the end of this thread here (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=47647&page=2), but maybe I should have done that on this, the mammoth n900 case thread. basically, has anyone found a good, *non-"flappy"* silicon or rubber case--not hard plastic--that helps absorbs the impact of "normal" drop??? if so, could you provide a link, ebay seller name, or the like? thank you!

Hello, after using a Blackberry case (very nice and elegant), decide to stop using it because of the magnet. I was looking for a nice pouch or case, and I found at ebay a Golla case, nice, perfect size, and cheap.

Not as elegant as the leather case, but it seems to be a keeper.

Greets.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I've used a myriad of screen protectors/covers/shields/bags, can't really say I've been super satisfied with any of them. My first was a full coverage kit from Zagg's Invisible Shield, which looked like absolute crap. I moved to a Vikuiti DQC-160, then to a Vikuiti ARMR200. I loved the ARMR200, but both it and the DQC-160 would bubble up right around the rim of the screen, regardless of how they were placed or how cleanly they were installed (performed the installs in a steamed bathroom while wearing nitrile gloves). Obviously upset about spending that much money for something that looked like crap over time, I took the ARMR200 off and got a tiny (but completely disheartening) scratch on the upper left of my N900's digitizer panel. I could replace the panel for around $40 USD, which I might do at some point in the future. However, a friend of mine with an iphone 3GS (ew) had tons of scratches on his device, stuck on a Phantom Skinz, and it looked brand new again. With this in mind, I used a discount code and got a full coverage matte finish Phantom Skinz kit for a little over $20 USD with priority shipping. Looking forward to seeing how well this kit stands up to the rest, as I LOVED the matte finish on the ARMR200.

Will post pictures and results when my Phantom Skinz kit arrives and I apply it. For the meantime I've been keeping my N900 in an inexpensive Golla bag I got off ebay for $4 shipped. Does a great job for what it cost me, and looks cool too. I usually clip mine on my laptop bag or on my backpack whenever I'm travelling or when I'm heading to work.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

When I realized that my N900 was about the same size and shape as a small digital camera, I went looking for digital camera cases that would fit. The one I wound up getting is the Lowepro Volta 20:

http://www.lowepro.com/about-us/news...a-pouch-series
http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Volta-.../dp/B0029EB3OC

Padded interior, has a belt loop and a thin internal pocket. I'm pretty happy with it. I was using it with one of those Amzer silicone + polycarbonate protectors for awhile, but as others have noted, this made the camera case a tighter fit, and eventually one of the plastic tabs holding the protector on the N900 broke. So now I just keep the bare N900 in the camera case and hope that it doesn't jump out of my hands when I have it out of the case!

Otterbox + Nite Ize Pouch

I use Otterbox Commuter Series case on my N900 which is really nice and rugged but gives some extra bulk to already thick device. So it's somehow not pocket friendly enough. Thanks to previous poster on this thread pointing me to Nite Ize products. I found two nice vertical rugged pouches on their website, compatible with N900 in Otterbox case. They are available in nylon or oilskin(medium). Nylon is available with both velcro and magnetic closures, while oilskin only velcro. The fit is somehow tight but very secure. Build quality is nice. There is also Clip Case Sideways(horizontal) available which was reported compatible earlier(I can't confirm it's compatibility with Otterbox case installed).
Vertical nylon case available at amazon.com for $12.99.
Here is the picture of the N900 in Otterbox case inside the Nite Ize pouch:

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I'd like to add to ANYONE looking for a screen protector i seriously suggest going for a CLEARPROTECTOR (Ebay it)!

Its basically this insanely strong clear protector which is made from the same stuff used by the military to coat helicopter blades. Before i got mine i went through around 12 cheap screen protectors, cos they would scratch themselves so its effectively useless. Then i bought this one, admittedly it cost around £7, (pack of 6 cheap ones is like £2) but iv had this one for over a month now and not a single scratch, no bubbles no nothing :) and i dont have a case!!

Oh and the cut around the camera and proximity sensor is very very good!! And the touch input is just as good with no change to screen brightness at all!!

Im just saying its worth a shot i guess this is a good place to share my experiences with this screen protector after having all the other ones give me such a nightmare!!

And since shipping to europe costs a fortune atop the already pricey case well, I'd like to know what I buy before I buy...

Here is some review with nice pics for you. In couple words: this is hard plastic case containing two parts - frame for the top screen part and shell for the body. They are both hard plastic on outside with body shell having silicone layer inside for additional shock protection, I guess. This silicone layer extends to cover usb port, audio jack, and the whole top panel with volume, power and camera buttons. Design is nice and solid, I like it. Screen protector has only one cut out for the earpiece, but it does not affect functionality of the proximity sensor as far as I can see.
Edit: and its cheaper on ebay ($22.95 vs official $34.95)

Hi techiem2, thanks for sharing your mod experiences!

So in the end are you still happy with your mod?
Or if you were to do it over would you just get the otterbox & use it with something like this?

i.e. already has a belt clip on it...
So when you pull the phone+case out, you're no longer impeded by the belt clip etc.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

So far I'm still happy with it.
My only annoyance is, as mentioned, that the Otterbox doesn't quite clip over the front edge of the N900 now, which makes the stylus a tad harder to pull out on the rare occasion I want it.
I'm thinking of pulling it apart to see if I can file down the zcover inside tab a little so the Otterbox will fully clip into place.

I don't think I would want it in a full pouch. I have a couple alarms on it so it's nice having it directly on my belt so when they go off I can just tap the screen..

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I had a clearprotector on my N900 and it was awesome. Nothing scratched it. So it had a very very slight grip to it. Nothing I would worry about. Anyway that N900 died and Nokia replaced it with a new one. I decided to try a Martin Fields. It cost more and while it looks even better than the clear protector (and that looked awesome) and it is probably even smoother than the screen itself, I am going to change it. It is hopeless as it is scratching like mad. It has only been on 3 weeks and already has marks all over it. They may have been good once but are terrible now. Looks great, lasts 5 minutes.

As for the case, I have an easecase off ebay. Brilliant case but I am thinking of switching to a folding case that stays on as I have almost dropped my N900 getting it out of its current pouch type case. Trouble is I have seen reports of the Nokia cp-408 rubbing all the paint off the bezel, so maybe I will look at an otterbox.

Successor to CP-321, which by some accounts has slightly better style/aesthetics, but all-up is inferior because functionality falls-short.

Yeah but not bulky compared to most of the other options.

I've since investigated this & it's not true.
Not a "biggy" for me anyway...

I can easily add a clip (that's less intrusive & easily removable) if ever needed!
Or just go the quality pouch route.

Although I'm more tempted by the former option! ;)
I've ordered my Otterbox, sweet!

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I just got a Clarivue, and though I was pretty impressed with the installation I must say I'm not impressed with the sensitivity to scratches in the protector..

After about a week it's very scratched.. It's by far more sensitive to scratches than the N900 display is...

Anyone recommend one of these protectors that are not this sensitive to scratches and still work well?

I customised it with red inner and my initials and this closure.

Hope this helps.

Hope you're still following this thread Asterixnz?
Looks really sharp. :D

I just wonder how the fumble factor is with this closure, when you get a call and want to answer quickly?

Have Fun.

Adding a new case, just went over to Best Buy to test out some cases for my new N900, and came across a belt case (horizontal) for HTC. Item# 82024LRP

It has a nice suede/type material inside that holds the N900 snugly, and the magnetic flap closes well. The sides do block the headphone jack IF you put it in right side up, flip the N900 over and the headphone jack is accessible.

i have to recommend INVISIBLE-SHIELD from ZAGG.
bought mine with discount code (ZAGG20) minus 20%.
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/...ns-shields.php

the installation has to be made with great care since you can fumble it pretty easily. clean hands, clean installation place, and firm hands.

thats all you need. after 3days the film had been on, those micro-air-bubbles underneath vanished. its little stickier than the n900 original screen but it works smoothly once you get used to it.

10points for this product!

I just could not get used to the "squishy" feeling it gave the screen. I always used the Zagg stuff before with my non-touchscreen devices but here something firmer is much better.
