Re: Did your N900 ship today continued
NokiaUSA still says that it'll be availible by the end of October 2009. It's a shame that Nokia never updates their product pages... if I remember correctly, the same site says that N95 only supports up to 2 GB microSD-cards, which obviously is a joke. Nokia's whole consumer support is a joke as well. Are they trying to lose N900 purchasers, or what?

I can't stand it anymore, Nokia, Peter if you're reading this section ( which I'm sure you guys are ), gives us our ****ing devices...enough is enough, we can't wait any longer...
I actually went into a Verizon store today and thought about leaving T-Mobile and pre-ordering the Droid, but I didn't solely because I want the N900... |
Re: Did your N900 ship today continued
Have a Pre with Sprint and HATE it! I am itching for a well built device and thought about Droid. The thing thats holding me back is Verizon's cost Vs. Sprint/T-Mobile ($70 Per Month More!) and I hear Droid's keyboard blows.
|
Re: Did your N900 ship today continued
The keyboard on the droid sucks, and the screen is capacitive. How exactly are you going to type that all important sms?

Don't quote me on this, as i have stated in previous threads i am no expert on these matters but i can't help but detect a hint of frustration in this post, tinged also with a flourish of anger. |

The Xperia X10 looks nice... might come out before the N900 too!

Re: Did your N900 ship today continued
I havent even pre0orderers but of course I am itching to get the N900 like all the rest.
But since the waiting period began after the N900 announcement, the Droid and the HD2 were announced much later and also are about to go on sale before the N900. I understand bringing a phone to market has lots of issues - but this a big manufacturer should have its game to the level - where they can announce and bring to market faster without the huge gaps in between. In todays cut-throat world of PR and media blitz and coverage and rapid customer churn, the old model of announcing and releasing much later doesn't work any more. The whole cycle of announce and release should have worked out the factors of beta testing and bug-fixing etc in that time period itself. But I guess this is where large companies suffer most - its inability to change its operational models quicky to adapt to changing markets. |

Blast my Auntie! She keeps ringing me up and asking me to order her Christmas Presents from Amazon. I have a heart attack every time I get an email saying something has dispatched - only to find it's one of her dvd box sets or books!

Re: Did your N900 ship today continued
I heard when they put the N900 release date as 2010, that all their servers went down with the traffic hit....
|
Re: Did your N900 ship today continued
Nah it was a DoS attack organised by rabid pre-order victims. That or iphonetas.
|
Re: Did your N900 ship today continued
it was only home pages what was down,
the stores was unaffected, i could access every single other page on all parts of the sites |

Dunno if it was a DoS, but the pages were down - twitter was buzzing with it.

We're now in the first week of November and Nokia customers still have to rely on retailer dates because there's no official information. People in different markets have no idea whether they're getting the product anywhere from next week to 2010. |

Both of these things just mean that Nokia devices have an enormous price premium for months after release. If you're in the "wrong" market or don't have access to the Nokia store you have to buy it on ebay at a variable price with a variable level of customer service and satisfaction. Why bother with the hassle for a new platform (Maemo) which lacks applications and which we know is unfinished (step 4 of 5 at least). We also know capacitive screens are the way to go in future Nokia devices and the N900 doesn't have one. As users we're essentially investing in Nokia's future competence with this platform and buying on the strength of what it might become rather than what it is right now. People wonder why others are getting disgusted and cancelling their preorders etc. It's because their faith in Nokia's competence and ability to change is being tested by a release cycle that has all the failures of previous release cycles. Personally I'll go with the N900 whenever it comes out. I want what it offers and I want to develop applications for it. However I worry for a future in which Google and Apple dominate the industry and smartphones are merely paths to user monetisation. |
