1st post for me. Have been looking at this forum for a while gaining lots of info, tips and tricks. Thanks to all.

Back to thread...

Any UK users of Sygic, can you search for addresses using full postcode? I can't find anything referring to this on the Sygic website.

Any answers appreciated.

Not quite the same as the real java app - which I do have working using the embedded JRE but it's still not the real deal.

It's not bad, but it's not very good no integration with conversations, among many other flaws - not much the developer can do without Nokias support.

Not that video calling - I mean video calling over 3G - not via Gtalk, MSN or anything else.

Oh and how do I turn the annoying start screen of this Sygic? I saw it a few pages ago but can't seem to find it anymore - it was a command line parameter like: -something=false

Does Sygic Mobile Maps on N900 have spoken street names? (text-to-speech)

Also, can you get female English voices?

Why do we get Mobile Maps 9 (v7.71) when all other systems (WM, Android, Symbian) already have MM 10 (v8.x) or even Aura?

Sygic said N900 will get Aura also. Not sure about MM 10 though.

Nope. Definitely doing something wrong. When I open the assistant app in Windows it allows me to select a drive that corresponds to the SD card on the phone. I "install" the voices and maps that I want and then disconnect and go to the file browser in the phone. From there I can run the SetupMobileMaps.deb file and the application appears to install. But when I run the application it opens, thinks for a second and then disappears immediately. Any ideas anyone?

The quality of the GPS fix is a hardware issue & won't be improved!

If it takes a long time to get a fix without AGPS in Nokia Maps, it will take the same amount of time under Sygic.

I hope Sygic is intelligent about dealing with a poor quality GPS fix. For instance, hopefully it doesn't freak out and immediately start recalculating crazy routes when the position starts hopping around.

But it is working with exactly the same raw data that Nokia Maps receives.

earlier in this thread people reported segfault if they installed to an expansion card.
try using the built in 32GB

I would imagine so. I don't have it to confirm.
but if the application is expecting it in a certain place then I can understand why they may have let this bug through.

try it and see ;-)

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Ok.. Bought it, installed it and used it.. and it works. I used it today to go to work (about 10km) when I started mobile maps in my car it got a gps fix (I have A-gps on) in a few seconds. Calculating route took like 1-2 seconds (amazingly fast). And it got me to work :)

One thing I noticed is that the postion lags behind.. but this is not the programs fault, but the phones as it does this in the ovi maps also.. atleast in my device.

And also I found the map colors to look a llittle bit "oldish" for my taste :P but that's just me.. I like the colors in the ovi maps better :)

But all in all. Good app. Have to test some more on longer trips and see how it goes.

Now that the Sygic system finally is released for N900, I would appreciate if somebody could put this into perspective with the long hoped for Ovi Maps for N900. I realize many people need or want Sygic now, but would free Ovi Maps (when finally released for N900) make Sygic unnecessary? Also, I've read different things about the relationship between Sygic and Nokia. Any clarifications appreciated. Thanks!

for rotation and a lot more functions:
just rename your menu.ini to anything else, like menuold.ini.
the menu.ini is located in N900/drive/maemo/

for fullscreen version you have to edit another .ini file.. read some posts above..
