edit: rootfs will be available at http://www.loadsofspace.net/NITDroid...WiFi-N900.tbz2 in about 2 hours or so - instructions and kernel on page 30 will run it

Im courious, does this version support dual-boot? And if so, what is the correct content of the android.item file please? The one on nitdroid.com?

EDIT: And I need to use the original kernel file, used in the guide on page 30?

FINAL EDIT:you have to take the kernel from page 30 and the newest rootfs. then follow the instructions on page 30

there is no dual boot option in this kernel so no reason to mess with android.item

edit #3: steve is it normal that console pops up from time to time, flooding the screen with unreadable text? :)

In the latest video it looks like android runs very well on N900 hardware.

I look forwarding to seeing it in portrait mode as well once the accelerometer is working.

The progress with wifi and the dual-boot kernel is promising. Have you tested dual-boot yet dj-steve?

Great work from all involved!

This problem is happening to me too. BTW the boot takes about 3 times longer then on the presented video, weird ...

on my device it boots very fast just like in the video don't know what is wrong with yours :)

i also noticed that the weird pop ups start when you try to use the dialerpad, no wonder with no phone drivers

if you install nitdroid now? can i choose without a dualboot if i want to start maemo or android? because if i install nitdroid i cannot make calls or text messages so can easily start up maemo?

dj_steve 2010-06-06 16:54

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

first boot time takes ages due to way android does whats called dexopt one system libs on first boot. after that its faster. ual boot is still tempremental hence not recommended.. the random lines of text are when device tries to go to sleep which im not sure it does yet

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Well, exact root of evil in Maemo boot problems is identified (I hope).

Maemo it seems relies on CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED in kernel. But android's vold (VOLume Daemon) can't work properly with kernels built with this option.

Now dualboot almost works (but android fails to mount sd-card). Still need more testing... And that's because I uploaded new kernel && rootfs.

Guyz, wifi is partially working (search fails, but ap names visible in wifi-manager). Can somebody carry out test for wifi on open (or WEP) access points?

Thanks.

P.S. if something fails try...
1. change root device in android.item file (ITEM_DEVICE parameter. refer to bootmenu documentation and your logic)
2. contact me at #nitdroid. describe problem. I can't see (from my location) display of your n900 etc. in other words, I'm not telepath:)
So, as more information you give, faster I can help.

e-yes just disable vold and use mountd see http://code.google.com/p/android-m912/

Well, Id say go for the phone, as being unable to make or receive a call during testing droid isnt that cool ... But whatever you decide to go for now, I must say - great job Steve! :)

Is there anything that you can do to speed up the dual boot progress? At least that would mean that without the phone working it would be easier for tmo members to test android and then just reboot back to maemo afterwards when the phone is needed.

In android itself, maybe you could look at getting the accelerometer to work!

These are just suggestions and ultimately it's up to you what you work on next but thanks for all your hard work on this project so far, we all look forward to any progress that you make.

I'm so excited to hear that wifi is partially working!!

Android will be on my phone as soon as phone function or wifi works
I've been following this forum for a while, just haven't said much cause i wouldn't know how to help or fix my phone if i run into a problem. However I'm very grateful for all the hard work you guys are putting in this dj_steve and e-yes!

yea dual boot is being looked at... market will be looked at further once i find the code to tell android when keyboard is open(it doesnt realise it is at min)

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

mountd is deprecated, who knows if it will be dropped completely in near future (i.e in froyo release)?
vold2 is another option, but I don't remember if set/unset SYSFS_DEPRECATED is required for it.

As far /sdcard is always mounted and Android is not functional with back cover removed mountd or vold is not really needed at all. However, we need tell to Android card is always mounted and mount it from script at boot time.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Phone functionality would make this brilliant as it is the biggie, as if it didnt work it'd be the only thing making me want to run maemo.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

I believe that phone support doesn't need for nitdroid project. Full functionality to support games & applications(accelerometer, gps etc) is important. I know it's very difficult but these are my expectations.

What about apps that need a constant data connection i.e 3g

Stupid question: Do you think a 512MB microsd card would suffice?

My 8Gb microsdhc decided to stop working and a 512MB card is the only one I currently have with me. (I'm currently around 300 miles away from home so can't get one right now)

Thanks.

Well I cant say for sure, but there are android phones with 512MB internal storage. One recent one is the HTC Touch Desire (aka Bravo) which is pretty awesome. I sell Cellphones as a part time job while studying computer engineering, so I have to rephrase these facts over and over and over again.

Hey dj that video was pretty darn impressive!! Although like someone mentioned, any chance whatsoever of the possibility of 2.1/2.2 working on it? If not, take my word everyone on this thread is very impressed!!

Well done matey!

Request_Suspend_state:Wakeup......

Request_Suspend_state:Wakeup......
i keep that error after the second try too
I don't currently have a mini sd card so i decided i would use the n810 internal memory card as the sd card. After all the partitioning and flashing from ubuntu 10.04, i got this error. Is there anything i did wrong? I mean was installing Android on sd card a mistake!

LonGDikE 2010-06-07 07:09

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

try mini sd card or internal memory card on my N810,the same err:
[....].....
[....]VFS:Mounted root (ext3 filesystem).
[....]Freeing init memory:132K
[....]Warning:unable to open an initial console.
[....]Failed to execute /init. Attempting defaults...
[....]Kernel panic - not syncing:No init found.Try passing init=option to kernel.

then and frzeing..

i made a mistake,,just mount sda4 and extract files on it,hehe

512 should be enough the rootfs is only roughly 150mb if that

Ok, I've left it booting for a while and all it's saying on the screen is "request_suspend_state: wakeup" repeatedly with different numbers.

Any ideas?
