Oh well, looks promising (though it is IMO uglier than N900). Though I can't really picture it being that smooth and fast. If it is, I'm all over it.

Also, does it come in black? :P

Nearly every electronic product ad does this. It's nothing new.

The device looks a beautiful, I'll try keeping my hopes in check. I'm not impressed by the FCC filed LJRM-680 (N9) battery BL-4D (1200MAh). I understand that it's probably the best they could do given how thin the device appears to be. To be honest if the CPU and RAM are high spec battery life is something you can live with.
Difficult to tell what OS it's running but my gut says not Symbian. Let's see what a tease though.

This... actually looks great. Hardware is in place, now let's hope that the software will be in place to support it - community and 3rd part vendors.

1.2GHz Snapdragon processor,
a dedicated gaming engine, a 4.2 inch AMOLED touchscreen,
a slide out QWERTY keypad,
a 12 megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture,
3G speeds, and 64GB of built-in memory.
Although unconfirmed, the Nokia N9-00 is likely to launch before June 24th

I am ready to part with my money if Nokia doesn't **** this up. I want this in the black aluminum like the N8 though.

Oh, and I'm guessing USB Hostmode is standard on this, and it's packing a TI processor for another round of overclocking.

My only problem with it is, there's no camera cover. I'm perfecly fine with having a N8-style bulge in the back.

i. cannot. wait!

edit: isn't this how it usually works? teaser media is released to the consumers... and then 6? months later the product is released?

Where did you get that from?

Snapdragon of 1.2GHz sounds like something I'd buy a year ago or more.

And the 64GB of memory makes me think this is pulled out of someone's ***, since no one would put that much memory on a phone, at least not stock, and even worse if it is a dev unit.

I do think it will be very old hardware, since it seems it is the same device that would have been launched a year ago. Unless they tweaked the inside, it should be fairly underwhelming.

And the camera seem like a 12mp EDOF unit, since it seems pretty tiny compared to n8's.

Hurrian 2011-05-18 02:58

Re: Nokia N9 Teaser - is this meego or harmattan?

The video shows that it's 12MP AF, with LED flash (whee flashlights)

I wouldn't want a QSD though. TI all the way. (another overclocking thread?)

If it did have a 64 GB eMMC + SD, wait, brb. I need to get a new pair of underwear.

You have succeeded in making me laugh tonight. Ha!

Seriously... I'm a fan of Maemo. Look at my sign-up times to witness that. I just don't like what Nokia had historically done with it, nor do I see its chances for a future to be that great from a corporate support level.

Community level is another story though. And great hardware is great hardware.

I'm torn... I had basically decided that I was going to get an android phone next (I really would like built in Google support), but I really like the multitasking, and community that maemo / meego offers.

I'm just not very confident on Nokia actually supporting the device, but if it has Alvin Dalvik, so I can use Android apps, I am definitely sold.

Even with Alien Dalvik I don't think I would bite it.

But yeah, good CPU and plenty of RAM is a must.

I think the only good thing is the 12MP AF camera lol. Also I doubt that Nokia would ever made the video camera takes 1080p at 30fps :) Doubtful that it would be 1080p capable. Take a look at the N900, though the hardware is capable but they don't even bother doing it because they do not want to pay loyalty fees for those codecs and drivers.

This would be another saga of disappointment just like they did to the N900.

Nokia: We are proud to announce that N9 will be selling tomorrow.

Crowds: Yay!! it's about time. Hell yea... HolyF*** this is better than Paris Hilton sex tape.

1 month later...

Nokia : we are regret to annouce that we are not longer providing system updates and support for the N9. You are on your own. PS all the hardware drivers are closed source so good luck.

Crowds: HOLY F***, F*** You Nokia...OH MAN, I should have seen this coming, before was my N900 now my N9 too? Oh damn.

Lol no hard feeling guys. I'm safely leaning toward the SGSII instead, it has better potentials in term of hardware spec and long term support from Google. I would rather trust my money on Google than Nokia, though Google taking my information but Nokia taking my trust.

Seems like the census of people here are excited for it; don't blame you.

But are you excited because it's a new phone to replace your N900 - I sold my original one, the one at the office died with the microUSB coming out despite shaving down the microUSB barbs - or because it's a new Nokia that might allow you to program in your language of choice and seemingly might keep its Debian base?

All in all, I'm actually feeling positive about this as a developers platform. Would love to hear what the vendors are saying/planning to do though.

By developing Cordia smoku is supporting FOSS and this community, NOT Nokia.

I'm looking forward to it because I came to the N900 from S^1 and the functionality and possibilities blew my mind. I just got a Samsung Focus to see how WP7 is and while i like the polished apps, i do miss having a mini computer with me. This seems to be a real successor to the N900 and i feel like that's kinda necessary - i love the N900 but it would be nice to not have to OC and use swappolube, and it would be nice to have a better camera and a slimmer phone.

gerbick 2011-05-18 05:15

To be fair, you didn't have to overclock and use swappolube until the other phones started to surpass the N900.

I've never felt surpassed by other phones, i just noticed lag. Not fresh out of the box - even now if i flash i'm amazed how fast it is. But certainly after some use it gets laggy, and i OCed not because i felt i had to but because i wanted to see how much difference it made. Obviously after running at 900MHz going back to 600 really makes a difference, especially with opening apps.

Oh i'd also like the N9/50 to have an app manager that doesn't absolutely suck

Given the lack of support for the N900 by Nokia it seems most sensible people's money would be better spent on the SGSII or HTC Sensation. Even the LG meego os phone maybe a better option

Is there an official announcement yet? No.
So how are you able to judge about the hardware?

I call the possibility to upgrade every six month for eternity a pretty good long term support..

....

after what happened on the n900 and Meego as a deadend system to Nokia - I find it incredible you can say that HERE of all places with a straight face...

or are you laughing your head off in real life when you are typing this ?

this is a dev/geek/DIY device no doubt about it - if there is ANY support it will be from community - we know how reliable "fixed in hartleman" Nokia support is.... right ? not to mention even now Nokia hasnt released the closed blobs for the n900...

for the regular consumer... either you are incredibly ignorant about competitor products or you are having a laugh at our expense ....

but hey - SOMEONE is gotta do the "pump" before the dump happens right ?
