Faster device? Longer battery life? Getting better community support? Something new? ...or the obvious, its smaller than previous models but has a bigger screen. Much more handy when chrooting ubuntu. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
They need a new killer feature or something strange. Why not audiotransmitter or a beer opener... Or even better, mic/headphone in spen.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I was thinking of getting a note 8. Is that a solid budget tablet. Can I expect more updates like 4.3?

Yes OG is the first galaxy note. Does that mean that the Galaxy Note 2 can be referred to as Son of Original Gangster or SOG? BTW does Ice-T have an OG? |

Chances are it will get a longer support period from Samsung. And an even longer by community efforts/members. As to the question, is it solid? I think its about as solid as any tablet could get, but its made out of cheap Fisher Price plastic construction. I don't like how Samsung managed to sell heaps at a profitable price, while holding back the specs for it (screen, SoC, etc etc). edit: Between the New Nexus 7 (Newus7 ?) and the Note 8, I'd choose the Nexus 7. But the Note 8 has advantage in terms of: - Size. Unlike the 7incher, its a "full-tablet" size but more portable. - S Pen. - Multi-Window. Exclusive to Sammy devices, no open-source alternatives. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
It's pretty cheap and plastic is fine by me. Having the new nexus 7 I'm not mostly after the pen.
But I would like to see a 4.3 upgrade. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Is it possible to buy a Galaxy note lll in US and use in Asia or Europe or all US phones are locked to operators?
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note

Its probable from T-Mobile. Its (usually) impossible from Verizon or Sprint. US Versions will get the slightly "inferior" Snapdragon 800 SoC. They will have different baseband/modems and are always last for updates (through Carrier-OTA or direct from Samsung/Kies). US Versions get "leaks" much later too, which proportionally affects development. US Versions may have locked bootloaders that are harder to crack than the international model. If 4G-LTE is compatible from international model, or you don't care for it.... its best to import it to the USandA. If its a money issue and you want it subsidized, then get the plan of your choosing. Choose the latest iPhone, sell/swap that for the Note 3. Yes its not the best, but its a working solution. |

Just awesome

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Quite impressive. 3GB Ram, 32 or 64 GB memory. Hope the screen is as wide as the GN1. A little tired of touch wiz but that is what XDA is for! Like to see how well the camera works. And, yes, I'll probably get it...but what about that watch?

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Anybody else notice it has IR? I started looking (hoping) it had 'FM transmitter' written somewhere in the specs.
Edit: Also note how they say 'soft textured back'. Mass produce leather? I don't think so. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I really don't get why they don't go for some kind of design and out some proper materials there. I understand that it's not easy, but they have the money for something a bit more high end They would absolutely dominate, more than they do now.
All that said, Samsung has the "Note category" nailed. They have created something that's more than just a big screen and improved a lot on Note 3 in that notion. Watching the UI demo really did make me wanna buy it. Multitasking is just so sweet on it. Though I personally can't see myself moving from my tablet + compact phone combo that I see as a perfect fit for me. Vivo Tab (and iPad Mini) + iPhone 5 (and Lumia 920) Quote:
This is all you need to know about the watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6PCL...utu.be&t=1m43s Unfinished product with no clear concept on what it really should be. It's a watch, would you wear thing like that, and charge it daily like that? Again, it's a watch, it's supposed to be NO HASSLE at all. It will probably need Apple watch to fully realize the concept and then year later see Samsung and some others release similar product with better hardware. |

Note 2 vs Note 3:
http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/04/g...whats-changed/ List of all the changes: (in order of most to least noticeable) - Faux leather back case (I'm not impressed too much) - New software features - Better camera (quality and pixels increased) - Symmetrical S PEN (Fan-tas-tic) - Slightly larger screen (Good, I don't mind it being smaller) - Metal-look sides (the grooves make it look ugly) - Slightly more narrow - Lighter (12g, not sure if noticeable) - Much Faster GPU (Adreno 330 vs Adreno 225/Mali-400) Unnoticeable changes: - Android 4.3 vs 4.2.2 - Faster CPU (2.3GHz vs 1.5GHz) - Higher resolution (720p vs 1080p) - More RAM (3GB vs 2GB) - 3200 vs 3100 mAh battery - 2MP vs 1.9MP front camera |

....so anyone buying this?
Or sitting on the fence, deciding to buy this beast? |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I've already taken my n900 out of it's protective silicone shell months ago, but it refuses to die... I'd love to have a good reason to buy one :D

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Lol.
The software on mine has become laggy. Its mostly my fault for having 3 dozens of resource heavy apps that I don't use. And its more my fault for staying on a TouchWizz base... simply because of MOD'ed Multi-Window feature. I think I will upgrade my OG to #3 instead of #2 because: - community support from N1 and N2 will jump to N3 - samsung support N3 > N2 - the usual upgrades are welcomed (screen, soc, thin) - the new dimensions are great, not perfect - symmetrical pen is nifty - new software features are nifty - USB 3.0 could be useful, at least for charging it might come in handy with my Gold-plated expensive microUSB cable and 2.1A fast-charger - improvements for battery life (more efficient code, soc, radios) - its new, come on Disappointments I found: - bezel could be shaved even further (Samsung you doing this on purpose aren't you?) - speakers... they suck. Need HTC One tier for a phone of this calibre - kickstand - nothing really exciting (OtherHalf, Detachable qwerty, Detachable SHIELD-gamepad, Laserpointer, Buttscratcher etc etc) ...Does anyone know what the best way is to get an Unlocked version to Australia with the Snapdragon 800 chip? (I don't need the Exynos' power, but the QSD's extra battery life is going to be handy) |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Only thing I am in envy is multiwindow with same app, i.e. two windows of same browser or s-note. Quite sure all these nifties get ported soon.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
3 Attachment(s)
@kangal Comparing specs going from a Note 1 to Note 3 is a huge difference. Should be a lot of fun to play with!
@debrenardis Using some mods found on XDA you can have multple instances of many apps but i've never seen it work for s-note or browser (except if you use OverSkreen browser which has issues since jb but still can work and some other apps which allow this in a limited fashion, say up to 2 to 4 windows) For cutting and pasting or viewing documents using multiple windows you can use Office Suite. Some apps can be opened quite a few times. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I'm constantly using stock browser together with dolphin side-by-side so don't really see a huge need for same browser. different browsers are great at different things so I prefer two different ones over one.
cant really see anyone using three browser windows on a 5,7. if so tabs are much faster. But for note 10.1 it would be great. I hope Note 10.1 wifi hits the US stores in September. I think TW is the superior GUI for tablets ATM with this multi window set up. and with 3GB it will just rule. just want to know the price. I just returned my Note 8 to get the new 10.1 instead :D My question is since wifi/3g version get octa, is that much worse than snapdragon 800? 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU for LTE variant 1.9GHz Exynos Octa Core CPU for 3G/wifi variant How bad is this Octa ****? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pF4G2k6NEk Found this. now I just have to think about the clock frequencie which is higher for snapdragon version. |

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Im going for the Snapdragon... at the minimum it should be equal performance. But it could have instances where its faster.
Qualcomms 28nm machining is very efficient, I'd say slightly moreso than the Sexynos. On top of that, 4 cores will have same performance as 8 but will sip power even less. So even more savings. On top of that the NOTE 3 (Snapdragon version) will be the first one to utilize new technology to sip less power from LTE connection. But the most important thing is software. The Exynos is bound to have more development as that will have more users and developers. If the QSD gets as early leaks, or driver support is tiptop then this should provide parity. I don't see why software wise one should get an advantage over the other, but this isn't what history's shown. All in all, you can't go wrong with either...but it seems the QSD 800 has a distinct edge. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Is there a phone on the horizon that will make me regret getting the Galaxy Note 3?
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Of course there is.
Depends if the horizon is on Mercury or Jupiter, though :-) |
