Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.

My take on this is that is expectations and market release and expect of the 920. It has nothing to do with ecomics or sales releases of low end phones. Nokia has potential for easy money. But the risk long term is pretty high even if it's far from critical at the moment as some may think.

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.

Engadget's review of the 920:

Quote:

Nokia arguably offered up the best hardware for the last iteration of Windows Phone. Does it repeat that success here? Yes, but it ties with the HTC 8X for that honor.
Quote:

All your incredible shots of that great night out will also be tinged by SkyDrive frustrations and limited ways to share them -- something that Microsoft's mobile OS is going to have to deal with if they really want to become the third choice in smartphone operating systems.
Quote:

But, for all that Windows Phone 8 does right (superb maps, zippy browser, simplicity), those holes in the app selection remain something that needs to be plugged.

So WP8 is still not ready and the game-changer

You stupid woman  WP8 is not a game changer. I guess lots of people will explain WP8 in those terms, but there is nothing there that suggests it will change the game. WP8 is in catch up mode. It tries to be there, in the new game created by Apple and Google.

Will they succeed? of course they will. But not in the black and white mode you little fanboy trolls here on TMO are thinking.

Everything is ready for the launch of WP8. Services in all parts of the world and 100k apps, and everything in time for Windows 8 and the Surface.

I don't give a rats *** if they "succeed" or not. What matters to me is that some cool devices comes out of all that. Having said that, of course they will succeed, but NOT in the "rule the world" mode you are looking at.

I have several Androids, the latest I got just a couple of days ago, the Sony Go (waterproof, dustproof, St Ericsson dual core chip-set :D :D :D ). I have the N900, the N800, the N9. And I have ONE Lumia, the Lumia 800.

The Sony Go, is excellent, and it's cheap. BUT, WP has a better UI. What is best, the Go or the 800? I would say the Go from a pure objective stand, more bang for the buck, but the 800 still has a better UI and a better screen.

Call me a gadget junky, but a fanboy?

I've Droids, iPhones (3G, 3GS, 4, 4S), WP, n900, n9 so?

My post was that WP8 according to the engadget reviewer is still not ready for the prime-time...

You came back to me with a trolling post calling me a fanboy etc

I simply posted evidence of YOU stating that WP8 would be ready as in everything is ready for the launch of WP8 including apps etc...

Now you say you are a gadget junky...I honest don't care about what you are...However, if you quote me and cite me as a fanboy for something you now are agreeing with in hindsight I would obviously post evidence of you being wrong in the first place...

Like they say, pick only those fights you know you are going to win...You didn't have to troll my general remark which was simply a reaction to the engadget review...

Relax, you weren't compared :B

Here's the first few hours from the Helsinki stock exchange. Good start for Nokia considering that the market in general started red/nervous today.

Except for actually releasing the Maemo products, it was just one bad decision after another. My two personal favorites are the N97 and hiring Elop.

If you were to flip it left to right it kind of looks like this:

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.

But on the latter one, you might also notice that it just now has had the largest drop in it's recent history - probably ever. Just from that graph, haven't followed it. However, the 2009 drop was of course more serious, since the AAPL stock is grossly inflated now and can handle these drops for a while.

The 99 USD + free wireless charger price point @ AT&T sure seems competitive for the Lumia 920. Pre-orders start tomorrow and it ships on Friday. If it's a hit, Nokia is saved. If not, Elop is gone by the end of the quarter, and Nokia is pretty much doomed. Exciting times..

If I understand these things correctly, the American market, let alone the AT&T campaign is not big enough to make or break Nokia. Remember, Nokia was by far the worlds biggest phone mft without ever having a hold on the Americas. It's the developing countries where Nokia need to pull in money. And there, things are changing so fast, it's impossible to tell where they'll be in 3-5 years.

Let's see if the US election will influence the stock markets/Nokia any much this morning. I'll see if I can't post a graph early today.

While we wait for NOK1V at Helsinki, we can have a look at yesterday at NYSE:

Surely these changes are so small as to be statistically insignificant against the backdrop of the companies potential based on where they were at their best?

Yes, it's been hovering at 2 euros for several months now. When WP8 gets rolling and the new generation Lumia start selling it will double in an instant. But if you are late you will miss out on most of it. I don't suspect it will go higher than 4-5 euros for some time.

NOKIA lost its mojo. The heydays of world control is gone. If you are successful in the USA, you are successful elsewhere.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. Only Apple has been successful elsewhere, and of course Android. But Google is, and always has been, international. Android was big in Europe, and only now is becoming large in the US (larger than Apple). In fact, the "internationalism" of Google is why it is hard to think that Android will ever loose the battle. MS is getting there with WP, but of course they are everywhere with Windows (PC).

Motorola: Big in the US, non-existent elsewhere.
RIM: Big in NA (almost monopoly), non-existent elsewhere (except UK and Germany with a few percent market share).

A better saying is, if you are big in your home country, your chances for success elsewhere are larger than they would have been if you were small.

Currently in Jamaica and BB is huge down here.

Wrong.

If you have a good product, market it well, have distribution channels that can match demand and allow for ease of purchase, return and/or test-driving, you have a hit on your hands if it is something that fills a certain need and/or want.

Country of origin doesn't matter as long as you are able to adapt to many other regions.
