So Google Calendar works if you add your google account? Even if Jolla doesn't support CalDAV? I can't wait to get my Jolla. Not that I can't live with my N9, but I do want something new and exciting.

Yes. Allready I have two jPhones coming from preorder #2 in addition to the one I picked from Narinkkatori. One is going to my wife. She will just have to live with it :). The other one will be my spare just in case I brick the first one while tinkering with it. If Jolla updates sailfish monthly, I have no doubt that eventually the phone will be suitable for more varied use.

At the moment my wife has Nokia C5-00, so jPhone is no worse to learn than any other touch phone. In addition she will finally have a usable e-mail in her phone and a better camera. She uses MMS rather heavily, so I really do hope that Jolla will fix that too.

I think we should stick to the official name of the Jolla instead of pushing and spreading an unofficial name that may serve badly Jolla because of the obvious comparison and indexing issues, i.e., the jPhone (although it is a good finding). Distinguishing the phone from the company won't be that hard: the Jolla is designed by Jolla.

Or we can call it like we used to call the N900, the beast, or something like that. :o

In the N9's event view, I can scroll through all my Twitter and Facebook posts from the last few hours - I just counted 79 tweets / posts. (This without having to open an app.)

For me, that is such a powerful feature of the N9!

(That and the N9's low power mode screen.)

this is the best feature i like in my N9, and this is the feature i believe makes my N9 unique. I hope Jolla will implement this very soon.

I think it would most probably work, but only inside the android part and maybe not under Jolla UX. Additionally it could create unwelcome background processes, so I'm not willing to test that...

Someone's, who got the phone already, delusions with their imaginary friend. (Credits to Coldplay)

Look at the phone
Look how it shines for you
And everything you do
Yeah, it was all Jolla

I came along
I bought the phone for you
And all the things you do
And it was called "Jolla"

So then I took my turn
Oh what a fix to've done
And it was all Jolla

Your skin, oh yeah, the ambience
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know? You know I love you so
You know I praise you so

I queued for long
I queued too long for you
Oh what a thing to do
'Cause you were all Jolla

I wrote a line
I made review for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all Jolla

It's true
Look how it shines for you
Look how it feels for you
Look how it works for

Look at the phone
Look how it looks at you
And all the things you do

Actually, Marcus Lundqvist in his video of the calendar said he has added his Google account, but does NOT get the Google calendar synced on the Jolla.
Google calendar is not synced via CalDAV btw. I hope Jolla will support CalDAV sometime soon though, it'd be a lifesaver.

Really? So what is the use of the calendar if it can't be synced with online services... What are my options now?

qwazix: I wonder if the browser supports running with two profiles at the same time. Regular Firefox allows it if you run it like this:

Code:

firefox -no-remote -P <another-profile>
That other profile should exist though.

I was always wondering if I could set up sync on a ff 3.5 on maemo and transfer the profile folder to microb, if it would continue to work. I wonder now if that is possible on the jolla.

(btw I tried installing the sync .xpi on microb and modifying the code so that I could access and complete the sync setup page but it still never worked)

See the related thread.

Just note, that Sync protocol could change between way older versions and the current one. So I doubt the current one would work with Firefox 3.5.

And you have to make sure there is also a business model – are those websites selling the OS or what is the plan?
Quote:

We won’t get money by selling the OS. It has to be something else on top of that. It can be applications, services or advertising. Whatever is their revenue model, we should be able to get a slice of that.
Jolla CEO: You will soon be able turn your Android device into a Sailfish device

I'm confused, it sounds like they've fundamentally changed their model (again), now they're somehow planning to make $ via some abstraction(s) "on top of" the OS.
Can anyone else corroborate this? Or is this just strictly for the Asian market? Wouldn't it be ideal for a "Western" one too? (if done well)

Ancient news, long before MNB blogged about it, but intriguing development nonetheless, still lots of unanswered Qns though.

Talking about blowing life into under-appreciated hardware, I am totally with you.
I will happily pay 100 world trade currency units per Sailfish license that includes driver support for previous and current gen ex-Android devices with open boot loader.

The answer and question was regarding the consumer market. It seems they want to distribute SailfishOS for free and make money via other ways (ACL? Other added functionalities? Ads?) I don't remember Jolla ever mentioning that they would even start offering their OS directly to customers...

OEMs, it's a whole different story.

PS: Should there be a different thread for all Jolla news? Right now they're posted disorderly between different threads in Jolla subforum...

First time I've ever seen them clearly suggest that they're also interested in targeting consumers directly.
I hope it's not all hot air, personally I'd happily pay for a license rather than be subjected to marketing.

Yeah, amongst all the ones still going this is the best (rough) fit, but I agree it's probably best if a "general/water-cooler" thread is estb.

There seems to be a bug on Yandex.Store. Today Yandex.Store stopped working, again. I'm either getting error message: connection error or server unavailable.

After some testing it seems that at first time you can use Yandex.Store over mobile data connection but after some time it stops working over mobile data connection. To recover you have to use it over WLAN and after that it also works over mobile data connection. Until it breaks again?

There is settings about WLAN and mobile data connections on Yandex.Store but at least when it is in that error state those settings don't do anything/help you out of it.

I contacted Netflix. They said: "We don't provide the application, we give companies the rights to create their own. Right now only google play and apple's app store have created those apps, we do provide a template but they create them" so those are the only way to get Netflix.

Edit: Amazon has Netflix only for tablets, so that is why Amazon App Store didn't allow installing it.

One way to use play store is to download Bluestacks to your computer if you does not want to instal it to your jolla.

http://www.bluestacks.com/

One way to do it:

1. Download Bluestacks and install play store
2. install Apk Share and ASTRO file manager
3. Install the program you want to use in your jolla
4. Backup the program with apk share
5. move the apk file(location: /sdcard/apkshare) with file manager to a place your computer can see it

Edit: You can backup applications with astro file manager but it did not work for me in Bluestacks.

I have commented of the very good call quality. Call diverted to loudspeaker is good too. One thing I have noticed is that you can reduce the volume much. Eeven when the onscreen volume marker shows muted it is still actually quite loud. In fact toy cannot reduce the volume any lower.

Can't see it ever being an issue but a bit odd.
