What do you think about this quote genius:

"Already in 2005 and 2006 it was obvious for some people that Symbian is an old and outdated platform. Adding an effective touchscreen user interface to Symbian would have been challenging"

I don't get it, you're agreeing with him saying he's providing facts.
And his "facts" are that you are dishonest, biased, and troll.

Well, as long as you agree with them I won't argue against you.

@Kangal

Actually I am pretty sure I inferred Astroturfer and Shill based on a comparison of Microsoft being caught red handed using these tactics and the striking similarity to the fabrications, misstatements and misdirections Lumiaman regularly demonstrates.

But hey, Troll fits just as well.

:-)

I think it a quote from an article written 6 years after the fact based on anonomous contributions from ex-Nokia employees who were pretty much all in the MAemo camp, and thus likely to be a bit jaundiced in their views about Symbian.

Whilst they have some (perhaps many) legitimate gripes about the politics that did for Maemo, the quote is substantially misleading.

Here's an alternative point of view from Michal Jerz of my-symbian.com:

Quote:

What does it mean that "adding an effective touchscreen user interface to Symbian would have been challenging in 2005 or 2006?" Didn't Symbian have a touchscreen UI already in 2001-2002 (UIQ, e.g. the P800, P900) and in 2003-2004 (Hildon, Series 90, e.g. the 7700, 7710)? Can ANYONE name a MORE EFFECTIVE touchscreen user interface at that time (and in the next couple of years) than the ones on the UIQ and Series 90?

http://my-symbian.com/uiq/intro_p800.php
http://my-symbian.com/uiq/intro_p900.php
http://my-symbian.com/s90/7710_review.php

So the truth is that Symbian had the most innovative touchscreen UIs at that time (both stylus operated UIQ and finger operated S90). Why were they both KILLED by Nokia (and by SonyEricsson, but not without Nokia's role in it) and instead of that the WORST and SIMPLEST Symbian version, the one that was NEVER MEANT TO SUPPORT TOUCH was chosen as the ONLY one for further development (both by Nokia and SE) and to create touch UI for it from the scratch... only those who decided so could explain. And YES, it surely was "challenging" to add an effective touch UI to Series 60. Surely much more challenging than if the Series 90 or UIQ, with their EXISTING, advanced touch UIs were chosen instead of Series 60 and further developed.
His point really - and keeping vaguely on topic concerning share price - is that Nokia made some poor management decisions that had long term repercussions.

@Strongm

I still have my P910i fully charged and still working, several spare stylus a spare battery and the touch screen works just fine.

I only changed when the N900 came out as that was the nearest thing to a linux distribution in my pocket on the market.
