You will get more battery life ...more speed...from diablo crawling turtle speed...to diablo turbo slow crippled walking speed....
(actually it is not that bad...)
But remember we are dealing with the equivalent of a pentium 2 processor here...
So compared to modern duo, quad and octo core...
the comparison is steam engine to nuclear reactor ...
So installing any and all upgrades to eke out as much function, speed and battery as you can and running lean processes makes all the difference.

Follow the walkthrough...
reflash.
install xterm,
install console tools v1,
prep.
clone your fresh, virtually bare unaltered, latest diablo from the onboard to sd card,
start up sd card,
install diablo turbo,
install asui,
install catalogs which are suggested in the Lost Gronmayer Catalogs
Install install install everything you want,
tweak tweak tweak...
playplayplay....
Endsormeans your uncle,
Buy him a new Benz as a thank you.

thanks again guys... yes, diablo turbo looks fantastic, I will try again to install, -did the installation, but uname still displays the old kernel, will try again.

I gave a try to asui, but don't like the way takes some time to display the screen, starts with something blue-pattern fill, delay 4sec then displays its screen, maybe the SD card is too slow for this (class2).

ASUI is probably the smallest program on your device, the storage speed wouldn't matter. When does this blue-pattern screen appear? During boot? When you press the battery on statusbar? When unlocking the screen? Whatever it is, it isn't normal, ASUI should instantly open.

After installing it, did you run the following command and reboot?

I think its from design, not a "pattern" in fact, like some broken gfx that scrolls from the bottom to the top, before the ASUI screen appear.
Anyway, I did a re-install of it and played some time with the ASUI settings, ta-da, I disabled the "slide on" option , the screen pops immediately :)

yeah...something is off...
uname should display turbo.
and yes asui is a great tool.
class 2 will run...
a class 4 , 8 or even 10 should be fine...
I have a few class 8 and 10's that work well.

In the end you will enjoy the full upgrade once you do it.

Can't say I ever had an ASUI install do that to me...on any of my n8x0's...
And naturally I have ASUI on them all...
(Excepting the ones I use for alternate os's of course)
A broken image on sliding? ...mmm..not that I am aware of...or that I have noticed...
(perhaps I have just gotten so used to my n8x0's that I have not noticed such behaviour??)
I use mine daily for a micro entertainment system...one in my shop and one in my studio and in one at my prime desk..
and I always take an n8x0 to work with me.....
always fiddling with one...

I will fire one up tomorrow...
fire up ASUI....
Put on my serious thinking cap and spectacles
(they help me concentrate) ...
and REALLY stare at it ....

Ok ....
i couldn't stand the suspense anymore...
and waiting and had to know If I have been so used to processes on my n8x0's ...that I was blind to them...
So I used my thinking cap and spectacles (for concentration)
fired up one ...two...three of my n8x0's....
and ...
I am not sure...
the specs are a bit fuzzy...
So instead put my very serious thinking cap I usually use...

The binary is loaded into memory at boot, and uses 1-2megs of ram that would only unload if the device was swapping. If it did swap, you wouldn't see anything until it had been fully loaded into memory. It maps the window offscreen, draws the entire window and only then begins slowly sliding it up. So sliding up wouldn't begin until everything had been loaded and drawn.

But ya, a video of it in action would be nice.

bah, there is no "turbo" on the results from uname, but I am pretty sure the DT installed correctly as :

* I can see the /boot/ has only the zImage-sd-preempt-256HZ

* cat /proc/version :

matches the version from the uncompressed zImage taken from kernel-dt-sd_2.6.21-3_all.deb.
