Ah....hahahaha
yeah right...forgot you can't check.
you need term for that.
hm....mc ...midnight commander may allow you to though....(hm..is mc available for the 770?...I can't remember ..)
But not being able to see doesn't negate the likelihood of duplication ..due to install of the same packages from different os versions....thereby causing your "incompatible package" issue.
App man details don't go into depth.
So until you can get in there and see ...it is all supposition.

As I suggested...
Reflash the latest version for 770 (shy of the hacker edition...that may be a little too much to take on at this point)
And very first thing.
Check your wifi first.
If it doesn't connect.
It may be the immediate wifi connection available is the issue...and attempting connectivity via a different locale may be necessary.
If that isn't the issue and you have tested various wifi connections and you know that isn't the problem now...
Then download and transfer the dependencies and xterm to your fresh 770.
Install only once...starting with the dependencies first....then xterm.
Then tell me how things look.

Re: X Terminal

Oh and speaking of wifi router connectivity...
the 770 can be prone to "n" issues...
as in b/g/n ...
so if you can isolate your router connection and any other incoming ...
to allow only b/g
then you may be able to connect.
That was an running issue for some folks, if I recall properly.
So that could possibly be your issue...
or not.
Hard to say until you deal with a fresh flash...check routers and dismiss that possibility, run some diagnostics and get into term.

It was that thing...I share net from my old b/g only laptop and 770 going net! And now I know why Application Manager not want install X terminal depencies from that my brevious link, it's for SDK only.

So but back to original question, where to get the original official X Terminal that can install from original Application Manager?

Re: X Terminal

Geez man...
Here I thought you were using maemo gregale extras
SDK isn't the proper catalog for your purposes

Yeah...well...there are a good half dozen catalogs you could have used instead...excluding maemo gregale extras
Hm....
It would be easy to find under gronmayer's it maemo site....for example..

Just navigate there ...click on the 770 device (os 2006) tab to the right...
Then type osso-xterm in the search box...
And you should get about a half dozen catalogs that contain xterm.
Careful though...
Some catalogs there state they are online ...when they are in fact ...not.
So check catalogs first...

Fact is ...check my signature and you will find a thread called "the Lost Gronmayer Catalogs" ...
I did an extensive study of functioning catalogs and lost catalogs recoverable and non recoverable ...and how to utilize the Gronmayer meta catalog optimally...

Funny thing is that I started there, before send my second post of this topic :) So I still not know how to install X terminal in offline. Or what file is that what was provided by Nokia.

But didn't you just say you got it online? So why to install offline?

Okay, that offline installation is not main thing in this topic. I only started wondering can I start to use 770 without net and there can be somebody who have more bad networking problem too.

But yes, maybe better first know: what repository has official xterm files from Nokia than can be installed with Application Manager?

Re: X Terminal

'official files from Nokia' ????

what on earth are you talking about?
Nokia catalogs never contained anything for xterm.

There are only a handful of somewhat requisite files from Nokia.
everything you need should be in 770 maemo extras repos....and 3rd party repos.

the most extensive list of maemo extra catalogs and 3rd party catalogs are where you have already been...
Gronmayer's....
THAT is where you will find the most comprehensive 770 catalog list there is.

I am sure the Nokia cats are listed there for the 770....but you don't need them for this...as well.....they are offline and have been for years....and years...there are places such as the wayback machine that will have the Nokia cats...but they aren't your immediate priority here...

check the cats at Gronmayer...the official maemo extras cats should also be listed there ...make sure any cats you choose are online and contain files...before adding them to your App Man

Ok...That makes this thing more clear to me, so when 770 was new, there was not any way install xterm from prelisted catalog (catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com) and Nokia put osso-xterm only for SDK users, not for 770 itself. Do I understand you right?
