I definitely noticed a difference in the last few hours... I have been able to follow the entire proceedure to boot from mmc on the maemo site (though I don't think it worked) from start to finish without any random reboots... I'll post again after a few days to see how things go from here...

usually, I get 5 reboots during that process and give up after a while.
