Re: The Skinny on the new 16gb sdhc cards
Thanks Convulted.
I did not know you could do it from the n800 itself. I usually just take it to a professional who has the expertise, equipment and time to do it right the first time when I'm in town. They charge me $30 and guarantee their work. I would like to find an N800 user in Los Angeles that has all the programs up and running and can show me all the in's and out's of this great machine. I'm new to Linux and I just don't have a lot of free time when I'm in the states to study up. I want to get completely away from MS and Mac and just support Linux. My next PC will run solely on Linux. An internet security expert showed me how MS and Mac constantly upload data from my system. It really turned me off to using them. I don't mind data mining when I'm on their website but I won't put up with mining data from my own computer. Here's an idea. I would be willing to hold a small event for N800 user's in Los Angeles to get together and share tips and tricks once every couple of months. We could stream it live if someone knows how and share it with the rest of this community live. I have the bandwidth at our company offices. Anyone interested? Post a comment here. |

All you need to do to flash N800 using Linux is written here: http://maemo.org/community/wiki/HOWT...ImageWithLinux
However, as I said, you can also use fanoush's version of the flasher, which runs on the tablet itself, to install only the updated kernel. Search is your friend. |

http://www.internettablettalk.com/wi..._to_a_computer You will need to search the forum for instructions on where/how to obtain the latest Nokia supplied kernel patch for SDHC. Otherwise you have to do a full flash. If I lived in LA I'd be up for a meeting... Good luck on getting that going! |

Re: The Skinny on the new 16gb sdhc cards
Thanks Convulted and Johsua!
I'll make a post soon about Los Angeles meeting. Maybe we can even show the new N810 if someone in LA has one. Anyone have any idea why the 16gb cards enchance the speed of the frame rates on the mplayer and other software? Peace |

Couple weeks back I was planning to use one older 512MB SD card (Rosewill, speed unknown...) on N800 but it took FOREVER to copy any files into it... Maybe 10x longer than my other newer cards (4GB and 8GB SDHC cards, and even the Nokia supplied 128MB SD card is fast in comparison). As a result I sticked it back to my Panasonic digital video camera... where I have used it to store still pictures... What cards did you use before when you experienced these slowdowns? |
Re: The Skinny on the new 16gb sdhc cards
I was using 4-8gb class 2. The 16gb are class 6.
I'm not an expert on sdhc but they are faster than plain sd that was supplied with n800. |
Re: The Skinny on the new 16gb sdhc cards
I carry a linksys travel router with me. If a hotel has only hard wired ehternet, I just plug in the travel router to get my wifi working on the n800. I sometimes do it in the office to connect my n800 to the intranet, not very often, it is considered a security problem.
