Re: Dlink DGL-4300 and 770 hate each other.
I'm having trouble with my Nokia 770 and my DGL-4300.
I am able to connect to the router just fine, but when I try to connect to a webpage I get a 'network error'. The odd thing is that I can open up a web page if I just type in the IP address. Also I can connect to a media server on my internal network just fine. So I thought that it might be a DNS problem, so I tried manually assigning the DNS server IP (trying the router, my ISP DNS server, and a free dns server). No luck none of them did anything. The really odd thing is that I am sometime able to connect and browse the web (seems to work more often when I have left the device off for an extended period). Also I am able to connected to a neighbor's router and browse normally. I don't know wtf is going on. I've got the latest firmware for the router (1.8 I think), and the latest OS for the Nokia. I tried turning on and off every setting on the router that I thought could be causing a problem, but to no avail. I really hate wireless, it never works right. anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? I not really familiar with linux, so I don't really know what options are open to me to attempt a fix. Thanks |
Re: Dlink DGL-4300 and 770 hate each other.
Alright well it seems that the DGL-4300 has some major compatibility issues with the Nokia 770 (at least mine does).
I tried tinkering with a lot of the settings to see if I could resolve the issue, but to no avail. The router logs don't indicate anything out of the ordinary. So I bought another wireless router and hooked it up the the DGL-4300, and turned off DNS etc, and made it just a wireless access point (thinking that it was a wireless problem). That didn't work, so there is something at the wired level on the DGL-4300 that is preventing the 770 from getting out to the net. I also tried downgrading the firmware to 1.7, that also didn't work. So I just replaced the router all together. Everything works now. I am kind of sad though, the DGL-4300 was a good router with good features. |
Re: Dlink DGL-4300 and 770 hate each other.
I have the DGL-4300 and the wireless connection worked okay on OS 2006, with encryption, but occasionally I'd have connection issues or random reboots on downloads. Disabling encryption seemed to fix it for me. I have yet to try encryption on the OS2007 on 770 edition, because now that I have a Nintendo WII and Nintendo DS, it's easier just to leave the wifi open with a mac address filter. This is on D-Link firmware 1.8. (I'm just reading that they fixed a WPA2 issue with the Nintendo WII in firmware 1.8 so I may try to enable it again) Anyways, the connection drops are due to a bug and are detailed in the bugzilla.
