Re: Snap on QWERTY Keyboard?
I type this with 2 stylus pens on the thumbboard which I have configured to pop up on press of the middle of the dpad. It's almost acceptable, but I miss more options, for instance it's annoying that upper case mode does not automatically return to lower case mode.

Back to the topic: Just because something is or is not flawed with the on screen keyboard has nothing to do with whether or not Nokia (or a 3rd party) should produce a BT snap-on keyboard. I think it'd be cool - of course I have a BT KB already, so I wouldn't get one, but cool non-the-less. |

I wonder if using styli on the thumbboard won't actually make it less accurate; remember that the touchscreen is pressure sensitive and can detect large or small contacts. Maybe the thumbboard is optimized for big, squishy thumbs? |
Re: Snap on QWERTY Keyboard?
That IS neat; I never knew you could get uppercase like that.
I use my N810 almost exclusively now, though. Different people have different needs -- I use it mostly for instant messaging and IRC, and being able to see what the other person is saying while you type is amazing. If I could do that on IRC on my phone, I might not have an IT at all, although both are much better than my phone at other things. :) Anyway, I don't see why people are hostile to an add-on accessory like this. People who wanted one would buy it, and those who didn't, wouldn't. |

Thanks Karel... In all my time tinkering with the N800, I never knew that! I also discovered (as I'm sure you already know) that dragging down seems to emulate the return key, and dragging left and right snaps the cursor left and right one space. I can't believe I never noticed that! On a semi-related note, I seem to remember being able to adjust the touch screen sensitivity somewhere... I can't seem to find it anymore. I'm using (I believe) the latest N810 OS on my N800 (RX-44_2008SE_1.2007.42-19_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM). Any ideas? Thanks! |
Re: Snap on QWERTY Keyboard?
The N810 is indeed overpriced, but already you can find it for $410, and for a brand new device out around xmas time it's pretty reasonable. Higher profile things like the Wii are actually more expensive this year than last--just because people are willing to pay that much. Gamers get their wallets raped unfairly and don't even have something really new to show for it. The N810 is overpriced by maybe $50-$100 (at the most), which I can totally deal with considering it won't create any extra monthly costs and should reduce my use of a desktop and celphone.
The N810 is the first time I've even considered paying the premium for a brand new device, and I jumped on it; I don't think I'll be disappointed (it's in the mail). I was drooling over the high powered HTC Shift and that Fujitsu UMPC but didn't even consider opening my wallet for their ~$1000 crazy pricetags. They're powerful but not very well thought-out or balanced, and they're clearly aimed at people with too much money who just want to try things out. To me, the N810 neatly invented a spot for itself between those laptop-replacements and far less useful PDA's that lack a keyboard or an open OS. (Sorry for the OT discussion, but it's freezing here and I've got to waste time somehow.) |
