Re: Sandisk MicroSDs don't seem to work

I bought a 6gb sandisk sdhc and a sandisk micro2mini adapter. No problems. Connected per usb and filled the card with pictures, songs and videos. :)

Tried a Kingston 2GB SD micro with miniSD adapter and it works.

Re: Sandisk MicroSDs don't seem to work

I currently have 2 miniSD cards:
  1. Sandisk 2GB miniSD card
  2. Sandisk 8GB microSDHC in a Sandisk miniSDHC adapter
Both miniSD card are currently formatted as fat32. Both miniSD cards are recognized by:
  1. an Apple PowerMac G5 running Mac OS X 10.4.5
  2. a Sony VAIO VGN-TX770P running Ubuntu 7.01 Linux
  3. an HP tc4400 TabletPC running Windows Vista Home Premium
  4. a Sony PlayStation 3 running Firmware 2.10

The microSDHC is firmly in the miniSDHC adapter. A multitude of other devices other than the Nokia N810 recognize the 8GB microSDHC in the adapter. Again, it is only the N810 that has an issue.

When inserting the 2GB miniSD into the N810, happiness ensues. When inserting the 8GB miniSDHC into the N810, after some deliberation, "Memory Card Corrupted or Unsupported" is displayed. For those of you interested in the dmesg spew: :p

"p1 exceeds device capacity" caught my eye. Is that the root cause of all my frustration? Is the 3000mV supplied by the mmc slot not sufficient to power a miniSDHC adapter housing an 8GB microSDHC card?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Re: Sandisk MicroSDs don't seem to work

Hmm... was the 8gb card partitioned and formatted via the n810 ? If not it might be worth a try. What I don't like seeing is the "attempt to access beyond end of device". Makes me think the (single) parition table on it right now is a little wacky for the N810. I know your other devices can see it fine, but who knows what they check before mounting. :)

Like run through partitioning it with one partition via "sfdisk /dev/mmcblk0" and then "mkdosfs /dev/mmcblk0p1"

Like my father would always say. "It's like giving chicken soup to a dead man, it can't hurt." ;)

'k, will play around with partitions, fstype, and blocksizes

Hmmm... it's worth a shot. I tried reformatting it from Windows Vista and changing the block sizes, still got the same errors. I'm going to try reformatting it as fat32 or ext3 under Ubuntu next, maybe then OS2008 will see it?

Any suggestions for partition, filesystem type, or blocksizes? :)

Re: 'k, will play around with partitions, fstype, and blocksizes

That dmesg is peculiar.. I get something similar too but not nearly as long.

For me, I had some minor problems with my card but had quickly formatted it ext2 on my laptop before I really noticed if there was a problem. I remember once having a drive that didn't have partitions setup, perhaps the unit is expecting such a thing? But I thought linux was more tolerant of such silliness. *shrug*

Opted for ext2 instead of ext3 since it reduces the number of writes to the card... though if wikipedia is to be believed, it wouldn't really matter anyways. Chose ext2 over fat32 since I like being able to set permissions on my files even if it means that i lose the ability to use the card with windows machines.

Re: Sandisk MicroSDs don't seem to work

I'll have to keep playing with it in the morning. For this evening, I was trying fat32 and changing the blocksizes without success. My one attempt at ext3 didn't get me anywhere. Once I'm back at the office, I'll try formatting it as ext2 from ubuntu and try again.

Thanks for the suggestions, aki. Hopefully this works! :)

Re: Sandisk MicroSDs don't seem to work

I got sandisk adapter that work for my 512meg micro sandisk card, but wont wor;k for my sandisk 6g or 2g micro sd card. The different is my 512 is made in taiwan and the other two cards is made in China. Maybe that the problem,

Is it time for a bugzilla entry - "N810 not compatible with SanDisk micro-to-miniSD adapter"? :)

Has anyone confirmed any other brand of micro-to-miniSD adapter working with the N810?

Re: Sandisk MicroSDs don't seem to work

I have exactly the same issue as promethh.

I have an N810, a 2GB MicroSDHC and just bought a 6GB Sandisk MicroSDHC. I used the same micro SD to mini SD adapter for both cards.

1) The 2GB card works fine with the N810 so there can't be an issue with the SD slot on the N810 or the micro to mini adapter.
2) The 6GB card works fine on XP, Vista and Linux; I transfered are read files from the card just fine.

When I insert the card in the N810 I get the "Memory card corrupted or unformated" error.

I tried formatting it through the N810, the formating box comes up but does nothing and quits after a couple of seconds.

I formated the card FAT32 through the various operating systems, nothing.

I have used the Panasonic SD Card Format utility to format the card but still nothing.

Any ideas?
I bought the card to take on a trip with me on Sunday but it seems I won't get to use it. Please help!
