Thanks Orbital--that's helpful too, to know that all you did was pretty much follow the standard instructions without tweaking other than what you identified.
I think I am going take the plunge and try this puppy out. |
Ok, so I got the phone, and yes it works!! But it was not 100% straightforward. I was able to do it thanks to the tip above regarding adding a connection to the A900.
So after you do the initial pairing, you need to manually set up a new packet data connection on the 770. For me it already had the #770 (see original post) pre-typed in a box. Then you bring up the usual connection manager, and select your packet data connection when you want to get A900 net access, and the phone will pair and get you running. The phone indicates it is being used as a modem when that's happenning. FYI--the initial pairing took a few tries before it worked. The problem is that the "trusted devices" thing on the A900 is a horrible implementation. Once you turn the phone off, you will need to re-pair. It doesn't erase the 770 as a trusted device when you turn the phone off and on--it's still there. But when the 770 initiates pairing, the 770 gets erased as a trusted device. So you have to go through the process again. Once you successfully pair, then you're ok for turning net access off and on as you wish, but only as long as the A900 stays on. So until this gets fixed, I have to add a new BT device every time, even when the 770 is listed there as a trusted device. Yuck. Anyone know how to avoid this? Also, as reported above, the battery life on the A900 stinks. This becomes a pretty big problem if you plan to use it in conjunction with the KR1 router. The router works great with the phone--I plugged it in, and it worked right away. But the USB cable plugs into the same port as the power cable, so you CAN'T have the phone powered and plugged at the same time!!! |
