Lots of questions bud. :)
First the cards, you need them.
Go to google type in 2,4,8 or 16gb sdhc cards and at upper left you will see shopping click on that and presto it will show hundreds of vendors selling sdhc cards. You can also go to www.pricegrabber.com and type in 2,4,8 or 16gb sdhc cards and it will bring you most reputable dealers selling at lowest prices. Read every comment about vendor before you buy!
Next download the latest and greatest update os2008 and install it. If you can't take it to a computer store and for $30 they will install it for you. If you live in NYC or Chicago go to the Nokia store and they will do it for free.
Play with it for a couple of days checking out the apps that come with os2008 and then go to www.maemo.org and get lots more apps to make your new tablet humm. Then start reading these threads and ask questions when you get stuck.

SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Content and it just allows you to break the 2GB barrier. No cards at 4gb or more are just SD. They are the same physical size- and SDHC card readers will see a normal SD card. But you can't see the whole 4GB or whatever size on regular SD readers. This may concern you, but using the included USB cable will make any card in your device show up in your main PC as "removable disk" under My Computer. Then you can drag items from your PC and drop them onto the removable disk (probably drive "E" and "F".) This negates the need for a card reader at all! Plus, you don't need to remove the cards from the device, so you will have longer-lasting cards and the slots won't wear out.

Worry not about damaging the card by putting it in the device. Just install it and go.

They don't corrupt easily or at least they are just as likely as the smaller capacity SD versions. You already know what the difference is now :0)

I don't know about an "official" one, but any one you can find that is bigger than the size of your screen will work if you trim it. It comes with one already, unless you pull it off. I used the protector on my old PDAs very rarely and I didn't mind the tiny scratches since the protector scratches fast anyway. Might as well just deal with it....
Once mine is too scratched I'll probably just leave it off. The HP RX3715 I had for two years, never used a protector at all and the screen was nice enough to sell on EBAY as nearly new.

The backup feature is there under settings>backup/restore. It will save your settings and documents/pix on the device but won't be a full backup. Remember that you need to use the removable card as the target for the backup if you decide to re-flash the unit with OS200x.

I've been playing with my n800 for the 3 hours of charge that was on it. Then I got a low battery warning so I shut it off, and plugged it in for 3 hours. now it wont turn back on! =( and I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in but I seriously can't/don't know how to get the battery out. Killed my finger nails.

With the battery door removed, hold the screen side in one hand with your other hand under the battery. Tap the device against the open hand three times, the battery will fall out into your hand if all goes well :0)

You can charge it while it's on and in-use.

Thank you, that worked. But after putting the battery back in, it still wont turn on! Wth =(

You need to hold in the power button :0)
If that doesn't work, pull all the cards and try again removing the battery. Plug in the charger after replacing the battery and hold the power button in. If that doesn't work, you've got a bad n800.
EDIT: I hope you exchange it they are really great once you get through the teething process.

It's not turning on! :( I bought it from Circutcirty online and now don't know how to exchange it.

Kotonokia, thanks for the info on the book marks. I managed to copy them to one of the SD Cards and can see them using the file manager but how can I paste that to web browser on the N800. If I click the exported file it opens a list of all the favorites from my Vista IE7 browser. Does this mean I have to click on each and add to favorites or is there a way to access N800 web browser from the USB cable to find where the web browser book marks are at. Thanks for your help on the export.

uhoh, i bought mine from circuit city on the 25th, hope it doesn't do this too. i got mine 5 hours ago so i just mite be safe.
