See whether you can follow #5 here, they are much more simpler and, there does not seem to have typos.
good luck,

will do...

I decided to reflash to a new 2008os to get a fresh start - doing that now.

Honestly - the first time through for a newbie - its overwhelming.

wait, wait, wait: if you going to reflash and reclone, pls use #5 above, I promise you, you have never see anything like that, after qualify the prerequesit, all you have to type is ./nupgrade.sh -optional parameter and go get a cup of coffer, eveything is automatic.

Another bonus, once you did it, the next time you want to do it again, you do not have to do any prerequesit, just ./nupgrade.sh and that is all it talke. Try it and then thank Milhouse's script.

Re: 4gb Partition

I tried that but the website was down or my browser would not connect - so I went back to the harder way (!) - and - well - I don't exactly know where I'm at.

Still I am right now watching the n800 transfer the operating system presumably to the mmc2 (but I do not know which partition I sent it to.

I did get the program running that lets you select where you boot from - that was progress...

How do you verify you have two partitions on the card...? File Manager?

Thanks for hanging in there with me through my learning curve.

Re: 4gb Partition

ok - after all the action - I rebooted and selected mmc2 partition 2 and that failed.

Then I booted again and this time it booted when I choose mmc. I think that is success - next is the kde...

when I check file manager and check the size of the n800 directory - it shows total size as 251mb... shouldn't it say about 2gb?

try me on aim, my name is bunansonn (AIM).
one extra n after bunanson.
if that fail, I will get on the phone to help you. Talking on phone is difficult. Or, you have any other chatting mechanism?

Ok, I thin you are making very good progress. I like diskUsage, you can get it here, www.gronmayer.com/it/, search for diskUsage, click the green install button. It will tell you everything about your mmc.

Forget about formatting, it is not very important. Get the partition right first, and clone the Os. We then take care of the formatting. You do need 1.8+G for the KDE installation though. Hope this help

Re: 4gb Partition

the partition must be important - when I tried it without a partition on the card - the KDE did not appear in the Extras menu after an exhaustive one hour tar.

how many users have actually loaded KDE?

Re: 4gb Partition

Ok Bun - Thanks for your assistance in getting me off the ground loading KDE...

I finally got it.

I think my difficulty was in two areas... total lack of knowledge of xterm commands and a flakey SD card that would not take the partitioning instructions...

it was a mistake to reflash 2008os - even with the backup - I have to rebuild a lot of what was on the n800 prior to the flash.

We need to assemble the various instructions in one place - like a wiki or something. Going back and forth to your posts, milhouse posts, pronukes page, and the post with the boot to mmc instructions was so cumbersome.

Still - I did get it loaded.

Now... The mmc2 still shows corrupt even though it runs the OS and stores KDE on partition 2... I suspect the format failed on partition 1 using the automatic nupgrade script.

I agree with you that you lots of space on that partition to run the kde.

More to follow in other threads about details of kde.

Thanks Bun!
