Commander Keen 4 runs, albeit rather slowly, in dosbox.

I have a commander keen 1 native port running here, but It's not ready for release.

It might help me to figure a few things out on how to better optimize the option settings.

Well here's a link to my current dosbox.conf file. I don't know if it will help you much though since I didn't change too many of the default settings.....

I'm finding Keen 4 runs rather well in dosbox. I was surprised since I tried BioMenace right before that and it ran like it was in slow motion. Of course it's been years since I played Keen 4 so I can't correctly judge speed differences, and I haven't gotten too far into the game with all the different animations. But so far in the first level everything seems fairly fluid and normal for me.

Oh yeah, that's what I'm waiting for! Can't wait! :)

BTW...for JFX....if you try Commander Keen 1 in dosbox you'll need to hit F3 in the game so you can reconfigure the default keys for jump, pogo, and shoot.

Re: Commander Keen on the tablet?

Hey Pushwall, if you don't mind can you tell me how to Mount the drive or whatever I need to do to get keen working or any game in dosbox for that matter? I finally got dosbox working so I get the Z: prompt and from there I don't know what to do. I tried mounting as it said, but couldnt seem to find my keen folder, also do you install the games from dosbox or just install on a PC then transfer those install files over and run the exe? Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to play Keen. I mean descent is over the edge, and keen is just tablet overkill happiness.

Re: Commander Keen on the tablet?

You can either manually type the mount command everytime you enter dosbox, or edit the dosbox.conf file and you'll see at the very bottom of this file is where you put the commands. (FWIW, I originally put my dosbox.conf file in my '/home/user/' directory. With ArnimS's latest dosbox install that he just put up tonight, the dosbox.conf file is in the '/usr/share/dosbox/' directory). I've got my dos games over on my internal media drive in the 'dos' directory that I created. So I mount that directory with the following command and then use the 'c:' command to go to it:
mount c: /media/mmc2/dos
c:

Then say I've got the keen1 game files copied to the directory 'dos/keen1', Since I'm already in the 'dos' directory from mounting it and changing to it, I just go to the keen1 directory by typing 'cd keen1' and then just type 'keen1' to run the game.

If you need any other help, let me know.

Re: Commander Keen on the tablet?

This seems to be the source files SDL for keen. GPL license, I was looking into compiling it for the tablet but I don't know where to start. So i'm putting it up, can anyone make heads or tales out of this? Or have you already found it and tried? If this worked it could be another gaming milestone.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=122232

I just don't know how to compile this.
