Re: 8GB SDHC Class 6 Flash card
UPS claims that my 16 GB SD card is waiting for me at home. Thanks for wiggling the deal in front of my nose (i'm a US poster).
In the old days, a 2400 foot 6250 bpi mag tape could old a max of 180,000,000 bytes (though i recall getting about 135 MB on a tape - probably inter record gaps). This new wood chip holds more than a stack of 88 of those suckers (nearly my height). It's faster too. Well, at least access and transfer time. The tapes spun really fast, of course. If i pulled my n800 out of my pocket in public and started playing Star Wars on it in 1987, i'd have been burned at the stake. |
Re: 8GB SDHC Class 6 Flash card
Got my 16GB SDHC Class 6 from Amazon.co.uk in the end for about £48. I couldn't find anything better or cheaper, but I didn't look that hard. So far have loaded up abot 6GB of video converted using the N800 media conveter and it plays like a charm ... makes some people on the bus for the morning commute very jealous.
I've also been asked 'is that a phone'? |
Re: 8GB SDHC Class 6 Flash card
Initially, i got mke2fs errors formatting the 16 GB SD card with ext3. So, i ran badblocks, which did not complain, but mke2fs also stopped complaining. e2fsck reported a clean bill of health. I'm thinking that running badblocks was a very good idea.
So now i've got ext3 on my new 16 GB, all my old stuff from my 2 GB and 128 MB cards have been copied to it, i've tested apps that depended on things being on the 128 MB card, and everything checks out. I've put ext3 on my 2 GB card, and it's happy too, though empty. No idea what to do with the 128 MB mini SD card. 15 GB free. This feels very weird. This device replaces my 8 MB Palm. I'd like to mount the ext3 cards with 'noatime', which prevents it from updating the card all the time. I run this on my desktop. But i've not been able to create an fstab entry that works. Any ideas? |
Re: 8GB SDHC Class 6 Flash card
damn, should I have formatted it before using? Works well without.
