Re: Moving Encoding for Mplayer...

I noticed that when I play some movies with Canola, they do stutter and skip (not all the time, but like every 2-3 minutes), but this does not happen when I play directly the movies in mplayer. I do know that Canola is using mplayer... is there any settings I could fiddle with ?

I am using both latest version of mplayer & canola2

Thanks
Houman

Re: Moving Encoding for Mplayer...

Houman : you can always refer to the previous posts (searching by Canola mplayer performance ) for example :) so you maybe find answers faster ... unfortunately I cannot answer as I would like (instantly) .. (just a tip don't mean to be rude )

Then.. the answer is simple : mplayer can indeed play better than Canola with Mplayer. Why? the embedded mplayer mode is different in performance. So.. to use with Canola please encode the movies in a slightly lower quality codec to be able to play it nicely. We are trying to solve this with a new media framework (libXine) but there's no expectations on how much time it would take.

Cheers!

Re: Moving Encoding for Mplayer...

no problem.

Yes I missed that post in search, I usually do that. And I do not expect you to answer, I was just pointing it out... since this was latest beta. I knew that the codec and the bit rate encoding could be the key (as it was obvious from moving from Canola -> Mplayer)

I think maybe there needs to be an FAQ or Wiki for Canola would help a lot on these type of questions, I am not saying that you should do it, but a collective effort could make the questions be lower. It's just a cut & paste for different issues, and people could just look @ the FAQ.

Your project is definitely a hit and has lot of attention, so it's common for people to ask questions (doesn't matter if it's beta or alpha), so even though a search can find the answer (my mistake), you can't expect everyone to do a search. We're human after all... and I know you're all busy people.

Is there a wiki site you'd recommend for people to make additions or create an FAQ on common questions ? I'd be glad to help.

I think Canola is using xv output for playing, to embed it better. Omapfb output is faster, but not very embeddable - leaves screen artifacts on resize and has problems with fitting every rectangle size.

Re: Moving Encoding for Mplayer...

Hii Houman :

That's why I wrote :) because I don't expect, but it's common to try to "show" the possibility to one person here, other there :) then what happens : you (are not the case because you do search) but others will be reading others doubt and helping each other :)

I think I'm really experienced now with this issue and actually this is common place, people don't read the manual, and I will tell you :

If we (improve) the FAQ / Issues

http://openbossa.indt.org.br/canola/using.html#videos

The same thing is going to happen :) people dont read the manuals :) So I will be here pointing them out to the site ... but no problem, that's why I am here, because I want to help and listen.

In the end :) we are all very human !

@bundyo exactly :)

cheers !

Re: Moving Encoding for Mplayer...

Hello all

I've been trying to convert videos from RMVB to MP4, without success. I tried, I think, with all the apps that already have been cited in the forum:

- Internet Tablet Video Convert
- Media Converter
- Jaffa's Tablet Encode
- N800VC

None of them worked. I really don't know why, because I have the codec installed on my cpu, can watch them. I always receive the error that this codec is not supported.

Is there a way to make sure someone can convert RMVB?

Thanks very much

Re: Moving Encoding for Mplayer...

Marcelo,

I understand, totally what you say, but I would gladly help compile a list of issues / response and post them to a wiki or make a FAQ if you want me to. I did actually look @ your website and the known facts.

I also understand how people skip manuals... (hence the keyword RTFM) :).

Anyways, keep up the great work, you definitely bring lot of good to the Nxx0 platform.

Re: Moving Encoding for Mplayer...

I tried many tools for converting rmvb/rm to mpeg4(Divx or xvid),this one is the best!
the speed is very fast,It take me about 10 ~20mins to covert a movie (rmvb to Divx).
WisMencoder 2.1.1.0
This is a free software and you can download it from http://www.mzys.cn/
or http://dl.pconline.com.cn/html_2/1/1...41%26pn=0.html
but it's Chinese vertion, I am searching English Vertion.
From the website I know there will be multi-language vertion after a while.
