I already have tons of asterisks on my N800, it is still on its first OS2008 install, never broke. I didn't even install 51-3 when it came out.

I like 2008, but turns my n800 so unstable and corrupts so easily my memory cards than I have to use os2007.

This morning I sent my n800 to Finland, because I would want to use the new OS2008. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my new iPod Touch.

While i missed stuff such as the thumb keyboard automagically popping up, the neat theme, and the animated Nokia logo, i think OS2008 pretty much beats OS2007.

So for me, OS2008.

OS2006? never used it.

I guess it all comes down to what is "better". For me, I rolled back to OS2007 because the applications I needed/wanted to use were not present, or not working well on OS2008. That said, it was about 3 months ago when I tried it. Perhaps it is "better" now.

Hmmm, Asterisk on the N800...that would be cool, if somewhat useless.

2008, but I too hhave trouble lately with application
manager hanging while doing updates. maybe I'll try apt-get in a terminal to troubleshoot.

Re: os2007 or os2008

The last OS2007 release had a nasty bug that caused corruption in my N800's root filesystem. After about a week I'd have to reflash and start over again. That alone was enough to make me immediately upgrade to OS2008 beta and eventually to the production version. OS2008 has flaws, but it least it's stable (for me anyway).

Re: os2007 or os2008

I prefer OS2008 since it is a step forward but the GUI is much slower and less polished compared to OS2007. For example, I have to wait 2-3 seconds for the "Device mode" menu to appear on the screen every time I try to lock it or switch off. Skype is much more stable with OS2008 than was in OS2007 (could never make calls over 10min). Web browser based on Mozilla renders more sites than Opera but it's a tiny bit slower.

Re: os2007 or os2008

2008, for me, is mostly better than 2007. I have had a memory card go bad, but I had been using it for swap, and went bad after I took it out and used it in USB reader in a windows desktop, so it's not definitive that it was the n800 which did it.

2008 still has a long way to go in terms of overall gui design, but that's another discussion!
