Re: My wife stole my tablet!
I must be a freak...
I'm the one who wanted the tablet (N810). My husband's the one who got gadgetlust after seeing mine. We bought him one recently with our "Economic Stimulus" check. It's great when geeks marry. :D |
Re: My wife stole my tablet!
Well, my wife's a geek, but it manifests in ways that are odd even for geeks.

Re: My wife stole my tablet!
As I aluded to earlier, I had to go into tablet rehab. The offense.... my eyes glued to my tablet while my wife was conversing with me. My 'oh really' and 'yes dear' and 'ahh man' interjections continued after she stopped talking - OK, well after she stopped talking!!

Re: My wife stole my tablet!
I opted for another way to get my wife to use the N800, I bought for her (for me to experiment with in reality).
On the long trip to Maine, I downloaded some Childrens videos and nursery rhymes for our daughter from Youtube. This kept her company very well on the long road trips. Now my wife is taken to the N800 - since it enables her to keep the child quite and busy with video and childrens songs when she wants a bit of peace for herself. As a result she has learned how to get online at wifi spots, check out Youtube (thanks to Canola) and also rip childrens CD's and DVD'd to the IT firnedly format (she is very tech averse in general). So much so, that I have entrusted my modest video ripping functions to her now. And I get to to use my N810 as a regular device and experiment on bleeding edge or new software on her N800 :-) |
Re: My wife stole my tablet!
lol, my sis is sooo technological impaired, yet she is just obsessed with mahjong and can play it for hours. She went to college right after i got it and whenever my family and i would go to pick her up, i would let her use my tablet for the 6-hr trip back. At one point i would start bringing an extra stylus so that i could play too. We would finish mahjong games in like a minute. I swear the tablet must have a nicotine gas dispenser because i'm hooked.

Re: My wife stole my tablet!
My BF bought a sidekick and regrets it because tmobile has terrible reception. But he's not keen on a 2 device solution - maybe someday if and when there's an integrated cell modem (sigh) or wimax actually works :)

That is not a very nice thing to say about your wife, and women in general. This being said, my experience has also proven that the N800 is quite usable for people not very keen on technology. Let me count: -my 11 years old son -my sister -my mother (who needs help for basic maintenance of her PC) -a friend of mine and her mother -a friend's wife and father (just to show that there are technology-impaired men... ;) ) Those are people who only use a computer for basic tasks (word processing and a bit of web surfing). The least able person is my mother (unfortunately) and I should say that she is sometimes a bit lost on the N800 (but less than on her PC). There, the huge advantage is that the N800 does not need regular maintenance. We use video chat regularly, so that she can see her grandchildren. We tried to use skype at first, but her PC kept forgetting about the camera, and she was not able to reconfigure it. After less than two months, skype stopped working alltogether, and I can't maintain her PC, because I live 1000Km away. The N800 has proven to be a much more stable device... |
