Re: A question about the battery drain. please help !

Hi guys, I reinstalled the firmware on my n800 on the 25 of may and a couple of hours ago the battery monitor got the *low battery* message. Which means - 12 days in stand by!!

Its with a 4gb Adata SDHC card, so my drain should be caused by software!
Soon Ill check what does KDE to battery life :)

Stay tuned for more ;)

Hi all;

My battery on my n810 is not holding up as well I would hope. I've been experimenting with both powered-off and full "sleepy" as described in the excellent Internet Tablet School. However, I can go from fully charged before I go to bed to less than 40% in the morning.

I installed battery-status from http://nitapps.com

It seems to give the same results as the battery icon (and in fact when run, will pop-up that dialog).

I would think that battery-status, because it displays a % number, is just reading the voltage and comparing that to the voltage at full charge.

BTW, one thing I do with my cell phone and the n810 that seems to help a bit - my wallpaper is a completely black image.

Still confused about battery...

Finally, as an aside, IanH said:

As you can guess from the name hildon is the desktop application i.e. the GUI that applications run inside.
I guess I live a sheltered life, but I have no idea how "hildon" has anything to do with a desktop GUI - but I would love to come out of my cave and understand this. (As an example of my cloistering, I only recently saw The Matrix for the first time - if I had not, then Red Pill/Blue Pill mode would have made no sense at all ...)

Thanks,

Steve

The HomeSomething applets are written in python and besides RAM, they are eating CPU cycles too, maybe that is the problem... Also, when the RSS applet manages to corrupt its files, when trying to update just hangs on 100% CPU usage for eternity (or death :)).

(Incidentally, I assume you never switch your tablets off?)

If you want to isolate the problem you might want to try reinstalling the firmware. After the reinstallation, don't alter any of the settings and don't install any apps. See how long the tablet lasts when it's still "plain vanilla".

I installed OS2008 pretty soon after I got the N800, and then didn't install any apps for a few days and during that time I still experienced this problem. Even now, I've only have a couple of apps like Evince and fbreader. It really isn't the lack of battery life that bothers me, as sometimes I can get a few days out of it with light use. What gets me is I've never even seen a low battery message. I'll just pick it up and the screen won't turn on. I know it isn't completely dead, because the welcome screen will pop on for an instant like it is trying to boot up.

And no, I never turn the N800 off. I just lock the screen and generally try to make sure I'm in offline mode.

Maybe some of these will help,

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...hlight=battery, http://www.electronics-lab.com/artic...n_reconstruct/, page 2 only, and of course, batteryuniversity.com, especially, http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-5.htm.

Hope it helps,

bun
